As soon as the discordant voice sounded, everyone at the scene turned toward its source.
The speaker was a blonde woman who stepped out from the crowd with her arms crossed.
The blonde woman had skin as fair as milk, striking sea-blue eyes, and golden straight hair with bangs, adorned with a beautiful starfish-shaped gemstone hair clip.
She stood about 170 cm tall and had an incredibly curvaceous figure, with prominent curves accentuated perfectly.
She wore a white shirt that covered her sensitive areas, but the fabric was somewhat translucent, creating a hazy allure. This caused many of the young men in the crowd to blush furiously.
Unfortunately for them, the roughly twenty-year-old blonde woman exuded a cold and commanding aura. Her demeanor was utterly frosty, and her queenly presence radiated confidence.
She paid no attention to the admiring gazes from the surrounding men, maintaining an icy expression and offering not the slightest hint of acknowledgment.
"Good day, Miss Elsa."
As soon as the blonde woman emerged from the crowd, AJ and the three other boys in swim trunks hurriedly scrambled to stand in a line before her.
In unison, they greeted her, their faces filled with dread, looking as if they were mice in the presence of a cat.
The commanding aura of the blonde woman immediately caught Sato's attention.
Unlike most of the male crowd, he maintained his composure, observing her with a neutral expression instead of gawking.
"Teacher, hmm… This woman, Elsa, looks quite a bit like Wallace. Could she be related to him somehow?"
Sato's eyes briefly flickered with curiosity as he studied her features. Her resemblance to Wallace, whom he had met in Viridian City, was uncanny.
Elsa appeared to be well-known in the area.
Her presence, along with the reaction of the boys in swim trunks, brought amused expressions to the faces of many locals, who quietly settled in to watch the drama unfold.
"So, do any of you have something to say to me? What did I tell you yesterday? You've really kept me waiting," Elsa said sternly, her pretty face cold as she addressed the four boys.
"Miss Elsa, we got lost, and then, on a whim, we ended up battling this big brother with our Pokémon," AJ replied. His small eyes darted around as he immediately put on a pitiful face, trying to explain.
"Yeah, yeah, the roads were so confusing! We got completely turned around," chimed in another boy.
"That's right, we got lost," echoed a third.
"Exactly, Miss Elsa, we lost our way. That's why we were late," added the fourth.
The other three swim-trunk boys quickly joined in, putting on similarly pitiful faces to corroborate AJ's excuse. They sounded as though their story might actually be true.
However, their excuse was laughable. All of them were locals who had lived in the area their whole lives. Claiming they got lost was an absurd lie.
"Thud, thud, thud!"
A series of heavy sounds echoed through the air.
Seeing that AJ and his friends were lying instead of admitting their mistakes, Elsa's expression turned icy. Without hesitation, she delivered a set of resounding blows to all four of them.
"Your training sessions will be doubled later as punishment for being late and lying," Elsa declared coolly after reprimanding the swim-trunk boys, who were now crouching on the ground, clutching their heads adorned with smoldering bumps.
Without sparing Sato a glance, she turned around and left with the children in tow, treating him like he was invisible.
AJ and the others, resigned to their fate, had no choice but to follow Elsa. Their faces bore the despondent expression of those who had lost all hope.
Elsa's abrupt arrival brought an end to the Pokémon battle between Sato and AJ. Soon, the previously lively battlefield became quiet and deserted.
"Hello, my name is Sato Kaede. Could you tell me who that woman, Elsa, is?"
Having his match interrupted and being completely ignored didn't sit entirely well with Sato, though he concealed his annoyance.
Since he was new to Lilycove City and unfamiliar with the area, he decided not to make a fuss. Instead, he approached an elderly gentleman nearby to inquire politely.
As the victor of the battle, Sato had earned the respect of those present. The elderly man turned out to be quite talkative and wasted no time sharing all he knew about Elsa.
It turned out that Elsa was the current Gym Leader of the Lilycove Gym and a Water-type Pokémon specialist.
Despite her aloof demeanor, she was known to be warm-hearted and often helped the city's residents free of charge, earning her great respect in Lilycove.
The Lilycove Gym had been delisted from the Pokémon League a year ago due to failing its gym evaluation. That same year, Elsa's father passed away in a tragic accident.
Upon hearing the news, Elsa had rushed back from her travels around the world and was now dedicating herself to restoring the gym's status.
The elderly man also mentioned that Elsa had once been a cheerful and lively girl. However, after her father's death, she became the cold and stoic figure she was today.
AJ and the other boys were Elsa's disciples, taken under her wing a few months ago. Since it was Friday, it was customary for Elsa to take them to the nearby Sea Cave for intensive practical training.
"The Sea Cave? Sir, could you tell me more about that place? Are there wild Pokémon living there?"
Hearing the words "practical training," Sato's interest was piqued. His expression shifted as he eagerly questioned the elderly man.
"Yes, indeed! Many wild Water-type Pokémon from the Hoenn region inhabit the Sea Cave. It's located at the easternmost end of Lilycove Beach and only becomes accessible during low tide. If you plan to go there, now is a good time."
"But remember, you must leave before 5 PM, or the rising tide will completely flood the cave. Ah, speaking of the Sea Cave, back in my day, I..."
The mention of the Sea Cave seemed to hit a nostalgic nerve for the elderly man, who perked up and began enthusiastically recounting his own adventures in the cave.
He regaled Sato with story after story, proudly sharing his many exploits.
"Here, take this, young man. With this, you won't get lost in the Sea Cave. You should know, this is a map I created after countless trips into the cave. It's far more accurate than any other map you'll find."
Half an hour later, an exasperated Sato finally finished listening to the elderly man's tales. Satisfied with his storytelling, the man pulled out a slightly yellowed map from his pocket and handed it to Sato.
"Thank you very much, sir."
Sato accepted the map with a respectful expression. After expressing his gratitude, he quickly found an excuse to leave before the elderly man could dive into another round of stories.
