Pokemon: The Master Of Monsters

Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Golbat’s Challenge

---

After earning the Boulder Badge, Gary headed to the Pokémon Center to heal his Wartortle. Nurse Joy kindly took his Pokémon for treatment, leaving Gary free to explore.

He sat at the public computer and began searching for information on mobile phones. The communication systems in the Pokémon world were still primitive, relying heavily on landline phones. Even video calls were rare, despite the technology's potential.

"Ah, here we go," Gary muttered as he found what he was looking for. A company in the Johto region had begun developing mobile phones, but they were not yet widely available and could only be purchased online or directly from Johto.

"Looks like I'll be waiting in Cerulean City for a week," Gary decided as he placed an online order, setting the Pokémon Center in Cerulean City as the delivery address.

Afternoon Training

In the afternoon, Gary visited a nearby public training field to work with his Pokémon. His training plan was well-structured:

1. Performance Training:

Wartortle ran 50 weighted laps to improve endurance and speed.

2. Skill Training:

Wartortle practiced Water Pulse, aiming to achieve the same proficiency as it had with Water Gun.

Scyther honed its Slash attack. Although it knew Wing Attack, Gary intended to evolve it into Scizor, a Pokémon better suited for ground combat.

Butterfree and Exeggutor practiced Confusion, engaging in mental battles to improve focus and psychic strength.

When trainers challenged him, Gary accepted. Most were rookies, and his team easily defeated them, boosting his Pokémon's confidence and skill levels.

The Journey to Cerulean City

The next morning, Gary left Pewter City, riding his mountain bike toward Cerulean City. His path led through Mt. Moon, a rugged area filled with caves and fossils.

"Too bad fossil revival technology isn't advanced yet," Gary mused, looking at the rocky terrain. "Otherwise, this place would be a goldmine."

With Butterfree perched on his handlebars, Gary approached the entrance to a cave.

"Butterfree, can this cave be traversed?" he asked.

"Freee!" Butterfree nodded, flying ahead to scan the cave with Supersonic.

Moments later, Butterfree darted back, looking alarmed. A black figure emerged from the cave, screeching loudly.

"Golbat!" Gary exclaimed, recognizing the bat-like Pokémon.

---

Golbat's Surprise Appearance

Golbat was a rare sight in Mt. Moon, where most strong wild Pokémon had already been captured.

Golbat's Details:

Level: 22

Potential: Gym

The Golbat glared hungrily at Butterfree, clearly unwilling to let it escape.

"This is a rare find," Gary muttered. "Butterfree, let's capture it! Use Confusion!"

Butterfree's eyes glowed blue as it unleashed a psychic wave to immobilize Golbat.

However, Golbat countered with a harsh Supersonic, disrupting Butterfree's attack. The sound waves echoed through the cave, forcing Gary to cover his ears.

"Butterfree, fight back with Supersonic!" Gary shouted.

Butterfree retaliated, releasing its own Supersonic waves, neutralizing Golbat's.

Golbat immediately switched tactics, using Agility to dart around Butterfree at incredible speed. Its fangs gleamed with venom, ready to strike.

---

Strategic Capture

"If it gets close, use Sleep Powder!" Gary instructed.

Despite Golbat's speed, Butterfree's compound eyes kept it in focus. When Golbat lunged from behind, Butterfree shook its wings, releasing a cloud of green powder.

Golbat inhaled the powder and quickly succumbed, falling asleep midair and crashing to the ground.

Gary approached cautiously, observing the unconscious Pokémon. "Butterfree, clear the air," he said.

Butterfree flapped its wings, dispersing the remaining Sleep Powder.

Gary knelt by Golbat, noticing how thin and malnourished it was. "Why is it starving?" he wondered aloud.

Mt. Moon was home to plenty of weaker Pokémon, and a high-level Golbat should have had no trouble finding food.

---

A New Ally

Gary decided to capture the Golbat, tossing a Poké Ball at the sleeping Pokémon. The ball shook once, twice, and then clicked.

"Gotcha! Golbat is mine," Gary said with a grin.

Returning Butterfree to its Poké Ball, Gary considered Golbat's condition. "We'll head straight to the Cerulean City Pokémon Center. You'll be back to full strength soon."

With a new ally added to his team, Gary continued his journey, eager to explore the mysteries of Cerulean City and train his Pokémon further.

---

Golbat's Stats After Capture:

Type: Poison/Flying

Level: 22

Potential: Gym

Ability: Inner Focus (Prevents flinching)

Skills: Bite, Wing Attack, Supersonic, Agility

Gary smiled as he reviewed Golbat's abilities. "This one has potential. With proper training, you'll be a valuable part of the team."

As he rode toward Cerulean City, Gary's mind buzzed with plans for his growing roster of Pokémon.
