Pokemon: The Master Of Monsters

Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Conquering Mankey

"Ji!"

Even though Mankey was immobilized by Exeggutor's Confusion, it struggled fiercely, its body trembling with effort. Despite its captivity, its fiery spirit burned brightly.

"Calm it down with Hypnosis," Kai instructed.

"Coconut egg!"

Exeggutor brought Mankey closer, its three heads releasing hypnotic waves.

"Ji…"

The Rage that had consumed Mankey slowly subsided. Its eyelids drooped, and within moments, it fell into a deep sleep.

"It doesn't have the Vital Spirit ability," Kai muttered.

The Vital Spirit ability would have prevented Hypnosis from affecting Mankey, but since it had fallen asleep, it meant its ability was something else. This discovery made Kai suspect that this Mankey was similar to the one Ash had famously trained—capable of learning powerful moves like Thrash and Mega Kick.

With Mankey soundly asleep, Kai pulled out a Poké Ball and threw it.

The ball struck Mankey, encapsulating it. It shook once, twice, and then clicked shut.

As Kai bent to pick up the Poké Ball, his pocket vibrated. A mechanical voice from his Pokémon storage device spoke:

"The Pokémon you carry has reached the maximum limit. The extra Pokémon will be automatically transferred to Professor Oak's Laboratory."

The Poké Ball vanished from his hand, teleporting away.

"Ah, I completely forgot I already have six Pokémon," Kai said, smacking his forehead.

Kal chuckled. "Do you want to transfer one and bring Mankey back to your team?"

"First, I need to call Grandpa. I should let him know to handle Mankey carefully," Kai replied.

A Call to Professor Oak

Kai pulled out his phone and dialed Professor Oak's Laboratory. The line connected almost instantly.

"Hello, Kai! I just received the Pokémon you sent over. What did you capture?" Professor Oak's voice held curiosity.

"It's a Mankey," Kai answered. "But I should warn you—it's got a temper. I didn't want it causing trouble, so I thought I'd give you a heads-up."

Professor Oak chuckled. "You underestimate me, Kai. I used to be a Trainer myself. A hot-headed Mankey is nothing I can't handle."

Kai grinned. "Alright then, Grandpa. If you're sure. By the way, how are things at the lab?"

"Busy as always. Where are you now?"

"I'm on my way to Celadon City," Kai replied.

"Ah, Celadon City! How many badges do you have so far?"

"Five," Kai said proudly.

"Impressive. You're ahead of Kal and Brock—they only have three badges each."

"Of course! Becoming a Pokémon Master is my goal. Collecting badges is the easy part," Kai said with a confident smirk.

"Don't get too cocky, Kai," Professor Oak warned. "Also, you should be the one training this Mankey. It has a lot of potential, but it'll take work to bring it out."

"Understood, Grandpa. I'll call again once I reach Celadon City," Kai said before ending the call.

Arrival in Celadon City

The next morning, Kai and Kal finally reached Celadon City. Their first stop was the Pokémon Center, where they handed over their teams to Nurse Joy for maintenance.

Kai decided to leave Exeggutor behind to make room for Mankey. After all, Exeggutor was already well-trained and could continue its growth at Professor Oak's Laboratory.

Kai dialed the lab again.

"Gary, your Mankey has exceptional potential," Professor Oak said as the call connected. "I ran some tests, and it looks like you've captured quite a strong Pokémon."

"I only train Pokémon with high potential. By the way, Grandpa, why are you wearing sunglasses indoors?" Kai asked, noticing the unusual accessory.

Professor Oak coughed awkwardly. "Uh… I've got pink eye. It's contagious, you know."

Kai raised an eyebrow. "Across a video call?"

"Just focus on your training!" Professor Oak said hastily, changing the subject.

Kai laughed. "Alright, Grandpa. Send Mankey over, and I'll transfer Exeggutor."

Professor Oak placed Mankey's Poké Ball onto the teleporter. Meanwhile, Kai placed Exeggutor's ball on the transfer device at the Pokémon Center.

"Exeggutor, behave and keep an eye on Grandpa," Kai joked.

Professor Oak frowned. "One Butterfree is bad enough. Now you're sending Exeggutor to supervise me? I don't need a babysitter!"

Mankey Joins the Team

With Mankey's Poké Ball now in hand, Kai headed to the Pokémon Center's public area and released it.

"Ji!"

The moment Mankey saw Kai, it climbed onto his shoulder, chattering happily.

"Well, you seem to have accepted me as your Trainer," Kai said with a smile.

What Kai didn't know was that Mankey's time at Professor Oak's lab had been eventful. Upon being released, Mankey had promptly attacked Professor Oak, leaving the poor man with a bruised face and a broken pair of glasses.

"So, how was your stay with Grandpa?" Kai asked.

"Ji!"

Mankey gave an enthusiastic reply, clearly enjoying itself.

Kai nodded. "Good to know you two got along. Let's check your stats now."

He pulled out his Pokédex to get a detailed look at Mankey's abilities and potential.

---

Mankey's Potential

The Pokédex displayed the following information:

Mankey (♂)

Level: 25

Ability: Anger Point (Maximizes Attack upon receiving a critical hit)

Moves Known: Cross Chop, Thrash, Fury Swipes, Focus Energy

"Wow, you're even stronger than I expected," Kai said. "With a little training, you'll be unstoppable."

"Ji!"

Mankey thumped its chest, exuding confidence.

"Alright, let's get started. We've got work to do if we're going to take on the Celadon Gym," Kai said.

Kal, who had been watching the interaction, smiled. "Looks like Mankey's fitting right in."

"Yeah," Kai said. "With this team, nothing's going to stop us."

And with that, the group set out, ready for their next challenge.
