Pokémon: Trainer Paul

Chapter 23: Chapter 23: The Blood Hunter

Paul turned toward the source of the sound and saw a heavily modified truck speeding toward him.

The truck braked hard just as it neared, leaving a long black skid mark on the ground before screeching to a halt, barely 30 feet from Paul's Pokémon.

"Hey, kid! Have you seen a rare Pokémon around here?"

A burly man in a punk-style outfit stepped out of the truck with an arrogant grin plastered on his face.

Though his words were casual, his roving eyes betrayed his intentions. They gleamed when they landed on the massive Ursaring standing nearby.

"No." Paul replied coldly, his tone indifferent as he sized up the man, who gave off an unpleasant vibe. Paul didn't feel like entertaining him any further.

"Oh? Quite the frosty attitude, kid. But I see… you've got some impressive Pokémon here."

The man's gaze shifted from Ursaring to Elekid , who had just sparred with the bear-like Pokémon, and then to a well-raised Blissey. His tongue flicked across his lips, his eyes filled with greed and possessiveness—a look that Paul recognized instantly.

"So, what do you want?" Paul asked, already forming a guess about the man's identity. He gave Blissey a subtle glance, and she nodded slightly in understanding.

"What do I want? Hah!" The man chuckled maliciously. "I just caught a rare Pokémon, but it escaped. I think you're hiding it, kid. To punish you, I, Blood Hunter, will be taking your Pokémon!"

"Hunters... just a bunch of scum blinded by money."

Paul's gaze turned icy. He wasn't just Paul—he was a reincarnated soul who despised exploitative Pokémon hunters, especially those who dared provoke him without reason.

"You've got quite the attitude for a kid." Blood Hunter sneered. "Don't think having an Ursaring makes you untouchable—"

"Hyper Beam!" Paul commanded before Blood Hunter could finish.

A bright orange beam shot from Ursaring's mouth, its trajectory swift and unrelenting.

BOOM!

The Hyper Beam hit its mark, creating a massive explosion. Blood Hunter managed to dodge with impressive speed, but the shockwave still caught him, leaving his body bruised and bloodied.

"You little brat! A sneak attack?" Blood Hunter growled through clenched teeth. He pulled out two Poké Balls and hurled them forward. "Houndoom, Tyranitar—take him down!"

ROAR!

HOWL!

Two fierce Pokémon appeared: Houndoom, a horned canine resembling a hellhound, and Tyranitar, a monstrous, Godzilla-like creature. They charged at Paul with savage intensity.

Yet, their appearances didn't faze Paul. A closer look revealed their flaws—both Pokémon were poorly raised. Tyranitar, in particular, had visible scars and was underdeveloped, standing only about 1.8 meters tall, far below its usual 2-meter height. Clearly, it had been forced to evolve prematurely without proper care.

"Blissey, Egg Bomb!" Paul ordered calmly.

"Blissey~!"

Blissey placed her hands on her pouch, summoning glowing white orbs that floated into the air before detonating like a barrage of bombs. The wide explosion radius engulfed the two attacking Pokémon—and even Blood Hunter himself.

Having traveled extensively with Reggie, Blissey understood exactly what kind of person Blood Hunter was. She held nothing back.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The Egg Bombs scattered devastation. While the two Pokémon sustained only moderate injuries, their aggressive momentum dissipated entirely.

Blood Hunter, however, fared far worse. His muscular frame proved useless against the onslaught, leaving him battered, his skin marked with burns and bruises.

"Ursaring, take Tyranitar. Elekid, handle Houndoom." Paul commanded, pointing forward.

RAWR!

BZZZT!

Ursaring and Elekid sprang into action, charging toward their respective opponents with unrelenting speed, their movements honed by rigorous training under gravity and waterfalls.

Despite its smaller size, Tyranitar stood no chance against Ursaring, the undisputed ruler of the forest. Ursaring's sheer power overwhelmed the underdeveloped Tyranitar, resembling a heavyweight fighter crushing an untrained rookie.

Elekid on the other hand, met Houndoom on equal footing. Sparks flew as Elekid's thunder punch clashed with Houndoom's fire fang, their strikes evenly matched. Yet, even as the fight wore on, Elekid refused to back down, his bloodlust igniting a feral determination.

BZZT! Let's see who's left standing, mutt! Elekid's red eyes gleamed with reckless fury.

Meanwhile, Blood Hunter attempted to retreat, limping toward his truck. "Screw this! Pokémon are just tools—I can always catch more! I'm out of here!"

"Blissey, Ice Beam!" Paul ordered.

"Blissey~!"

A frigid blue beam shot from Blissey's hands, freezing Blood Hunter's legs mid-step, locking him in place.

"Finish this! Ursaring, hammer arm and hyper beam! Elekid, thunder!"

Ursaring raised its glowing arms high before slamming them down onto Tyranitar with devastating force. The move hit with quadruple effectiveness, instantly knocking out the Dark/Rock-type Pokémon.

Elekid followed up with a powerful thunder, striking Houndoom in tandem with Ursaring's hyper beam. The resulting explosion left Houndoom sprawled unconscious beside its fallen ally.

Paul walked over to the immobilized Blood Hunter, retrieving the Poké Balls from his belt. A quick scan of their contents confirmed his suspicion—both Pokémon were poorly raised.

"Trash Pokémon from trash people." He muttered, tossing the Poké Balls onto the truck's passenger seat. With a swift chop, Paul knocked Blood Hunter unconscious, tied him up with the truck's spare rope, and tossed him into the cargo hold.

The reinforced metal of the truck bed caught Paul's attention. One section had a melted hole, just large enough for a small Pokémon to escape through. Clearly, the rare Pokémon Blood Hunter had mentioned was responsible.

Without a word, Paul climbed into the driver's seat and started the truck, heading straight for Oreburgh City's police station.

Beneath the ground, a round small figure peeked out from a burrow, watching the truck drive away. After a moment of thought, it jumped back into the hole it had dug.
