Chapter 18: 18.) First Hunt
Authors note: hey guys, we're slowly but surely trucking along here. Title is a bit self explanatory, do hope you enjoy.
We'll also find out more about being an 'alpha' as they've been calling it. Primordial will gain traction when we get to NOLA

I wake up feeling good. Really good. In front of me I see Zach. Only then do I realize we're in a cave.
"What's going on?" I ask. Getting to my feet.
Zach appears in front of me faster than My new and improved vision can keep up with with his eyes glowing red. "You're about to shift. Can't you feel it?"
Now that he asks I can. It feels like lava crawling under my skin. I nod without speaking, too focused on the feeling.
Zach nods and speaks, "good. While I've told you it will be bad, because it will, you'll need to be at peace with it."
I look at him, "peace?! I have to be at peace? I nearly died. Only to wake up some kind of monster."
That earns me a strike that sends me to the ground and nearly broke my neck. 'I never even saw it coming,' I think about the strike and the feeling of blood dripping from a cut on my cheek.
I begin looking up first seeing a clawed hand followed by completely red eyes that glowed ominously in warning. The deep growl that reverberated through the cave giving me audible warning as well.
"The bite was a gift you fool."
I stand back up ignoring the sting of my bloody cheek, "a gift?! You handed me a curse!"
"Is it such a curse that you can move faster than anyone thought possible? Heal from wounds that would kill others instantly? Do you have any idea the things people would do to have the opportunity I gave you?"
I don't have time to reply when it hits me. The beast inside decided it's time to come out and play. From my knees I look past Zach toward the sky through a small hole in the cave roof. The beautiful full moon hits my eyes and the pain starts instantly.
My shoulders both break simultaneously. "Ah!" I scream out in pain. Even though I'm pissed about this situation, I look to the one who can help. Zach.

Seeing someone go through the transformation from the outside is far more uncomfortable than watching it in the show. I quickly move toward Derek when he looks to me.
"This is going to hurt. So you need to concentrate on the air in your lungs and the ground beneath your feet. The first time can take hours."
"Hours?!" Derek yells in fear.
"Only if you Fight it." I reply. "But if you let it in. If you let it swallow you whole then it cannot break you." My eyes begin glowing and i see his respond. That odd colored blue still in place but flickering back to yellow occasionally.
He takes a deep breath and nods. "When you make it past the threshold, follow me. Follow your instincts. That will help keep you alive even more than I can." I say.
He nods. "I can do this."
I nod in return just as his back begins to conform to the new shape. He looks up in agony with the eyes solidifying into the blue with black overtaking the whites.
I put my shirt, jeans, and shoes next to the back pack I brought with spare clothes for Derek because I'm not helping another man undress. As I'm getting ready I hear Derek's transformation become complete. Looking back I'm seeing a slightly tan colored wolf with those eerie blue eyes.
I quickly Burst into my wolf form and bark at him gaining his attention. He sits like a house dog at my bark. I try to to more than that. 'Derek!'
'Derek!'

Everything after my back broke is a haze. I feel fuzzy. Until I hear my name being called.
'Derek!'
I look up to see a huge black wolf. Looking it up and down I see sharp claws glinting off its paws and black 'venom' my mind supplies for me somehow, dripping from its maw.
The most noticeable thing though is the ominous red eyes. My mind instantly makes the connection, 'zach?'
The wolf smiles and grabs the backpack beside him, 'good. Let's go. We have a vampire to hunt.'
I don't know why but I let out a howl/roar.
Zach does the same and literally disappears out of the cave. Following his scent I begin to run and instantly know what he means by, 'moving faster than any human can think of.'

About 20 miles Into our run we stop near a lake. I'm truly amazed. The feeling is unlike any I've ever thought possible. Running wild and free. I see Zach bring his head up from within the lake and turn to me, 'crazy right?' He asks with the smug tone I've learned to associate with him.
'Yes. It is.' I admit. Something tells me I can't lie to him. Better to be honest. My cheek still hasn't healed. I ask that to Zach.
'Honestly? I don't know. Werewolves heal fast. Even I don't know much about us man. Just the how to do it part.'
I nod. 'How are we speaking?'
'Again. I don't know. Just felt a connection pull at me when you began to turn. Just tried to follow it and see what happened. I've been looking for answers since I became what I became. If I run away at the moment something is happening I'd be a hypocrite.'
I nod and am about to speak again when he does. 'Let's go. I just wanted to check in with you before we go into your initiation.'
'What do you mean?' I ask.
'Werewolves hunt vampires. It's what we do. At least for now. When we get to our final destination we'll need to be a bit more cautious.' Zach said.
'Final destination?' I ask confused.
'Don't you mind that right now. Focus on surviving. I won't help you. This is a test of your will. Survive. And drink the vampire dry after. That was vampire blood you drank earlier. I don't know why, but it's delicious to me. Since I became aware of it I've been drinking it constantly.'
I recoil in disgust at the thought of drinking vampire blood until I began remembering the taste of the life giving liquid.
'Let's do this,' I reply to Zach.
He doesn't give me a reply. He just disappeared. I'm beginning to think this whole night is a test. Not just for me but for him too.

We arrive outside the vampires house. Thankfully werewolves don't have any rules about entering the premises. I've also already checked this place out last night while the vampire was going to get his prey. There's no barrier on the property that would inevitably lead to a witch.
Vampires I will hunt, witches I will avoid if possible.
At the thought of witches a certain green eyed witch comes to my mind. I quickly get rid of it and look to Derek, 'time to do this. Use your senses. All of them. Don't die.'
I say disappearing into a tree and returning to my human form and putting on pants and shoes.
As I hear Derek begin to make his move I realize I'm going full twilight and almost stop to dress all the way when I hear the tell tale scream of Vampire being injected with wolf venom.
I quickly blur into the house and see the vampire i'd been looking for writhing in pain on the ground while Derek was drinking his blood.
This vampire wasn't super old. Even younger than the Salvatores. I'm not gonna put my new creation on the line in front of a 500 year old vampire until I'm confident in his strength.
Seeing how quickly the vampire in front of me was taken down and now beginning to grey thanks to blood loss I think it may not be long till the older vamps need to watch out for my budding pack.
"Good Derek. Very good. How's it taste?"
One look at his ravenous licking of his lips as he pulls away from his finished meal says all I need to know. Looking outside I see the moon is slowly losing its height. "Try coming out of your form. Just a hunch." I tell the beta.
It's a slow process. But eventually I see skin become visible. I throw the bag in front of him and grab the corpse while speaking. "We'll stay here until this guy is ashes then we'll go home. Get dressed." I say and blur away toward the back yard of the house to prepare for the fire.
'This is getting interesting.' I think as I light some paper and throw some kindling on it after ripping up the vampire piece by piece.
