Psychic Overlord

Chapter 29: Hospital Again

"Ughhh…" Rina groaned in pain, touching her head as she tried to sit up.

However, she found that her body was gently pressed down by a hand, and when she opened her eyes, she saw that her entire family was staring at her with concern. The one who gently patted her shoulder and prevented her from sitting up was her Uncle Keith.

"Don't rush it, Rina, lie down for a bit." He advised softly, and Rina obeyed.

The first to enter her eyes was her own mother, who looked like she was one inch away from breaking into pieces. Rina had never seen her mother so disheveled and worn out, which made her heart ache because she knew how much her mother loved her.

After that was naturally her uncle Keith, who wore a somber look full of worry and then her aunt Charlene, who was gently comforting her mother, who seemed to have been crying slightly.

Then… there was her brother.

Kaizer sat there in one of the chairs for the private ward, his legs crossed in a gentlemanly manner as he casually read a book. When she had awoken, his eyes casually moved over to her as Kaizer casually nodded in greeting then looked away to continue his reading.

Cool, aloof, and hard to read. This was always how Rina felt about her brother, which intensified her attraction towards him rather than deterred her. Even now, nothing had changed, but Rina felt a strange feeling that her brother was very different from before, but she couldn't tell how.

"Oh my darling baby!" Katherine could no longer hold back and rushed to hold her daughter in her arms, her body shaking slightly.

Keith seemed to want to stop her, but Charlene pulled him back and shook her head. Keith sighed and decided to sit down beside his son and remain quiet. Meanwhile, Rina gently patted her mother's back and comforted her softly before glancing at everyone with slight confusion.

"What… happened?" Rina eventually asked.

Katherine was the first to be surprised as she pulled back slightly and glanced at her daughter with shock. "Darling, you don't remember?"

"I remember the attack and hiding out with Kaizer's bodyguards, Franco and Raul. Then we were sieged by those bastards until I got…" Rina said slowly until her eyes widened as she suddenly glanced down at her abdomen.

However, the hole she expected to be there was not present, causing her to pause in bafflement. That kind of wound… Rina was not a doctor nor did she study medicine, but she was aware that current medical technology could not 'fix' something like that.

"What's wrong, dear…?" Katherine saw Rina's behavior and was alarmed.

The confused young girl did not tactfully hold back and said with a still pale face. "I-I was shot…"

Immediately, she regretted revealing this as everyone—minus the still calm Kaizer—reacted as if they had been stung by a bee. Keith, Charlene, and Katherine shot to their feet and rushed over, their eyes full of fear and horror as if Rina was saying that she was about to perish the next moment.

"Darling, what do you mean? Where were you shot?!" Katherine asked in a hurry, touching Rina all over to make sure she was okay.

"Rina, don't hesitate. Even if you're fine on the surface, there could be hidden trauma and sequelae that may lead to complications later on, so share the details with us." Keith prompted with a firm nod.

Rina was silent for a while and showed her right stomach area where the attack had been.

"I remember being shot after Raul was killed and Franco was about to die, but it's gone now…" She said in a weak tone.

However, she realized that the ones who were energetic previously became silent as they were looking at her strangely. Rina immediately realized something was wrong and looked between the three with alarm, her brows furrowing.

"What's wrong?"

Katherine seemed troubled as she spoke slowly. "Dear… Kaizer's bodyguards are alive and well. They were discharged long before you woke up."

Rina froze, as she seemed to understand why her family reacted in that way, but coupled with her own miraculous recovery, she was truly unable to parse what was going on and began to down her own memories and cognition.

"So then… how am I fine? How are they fine?" She couldn't help but ask because no matter how she thought and rethought, there was no flaw to be discovered.

The Lunin family looked between each other with similar bafflement and worry, not knowing what was happening here and praying the situation was not serious. That was until everyone heard the sound of a book snapping shut, turning to see Kaizer who closed the book he was reading and placed it aside.

"The answer to that is actually quite simple. It's because you not only healed yourself and brought yourself back to life, but so too did you do for Raul and Franco." Kaizer said evenly, his blue eyes calm as limpid pools of water.

However, Rina's reaction was the exact opposite.

"Hah? What the heck are you talking about now? How could I have possibly done that?" Rina questioned, her expression one of exasperation as if Kaizer was frequently delusional.

Charlene and Katherine had similar expressions, but Keith became pensive. He rubbed his eyebrows slowly and halted the discussion as his mind began to work, not glancing at Rina but speaking to her in a tone similar to his son.

"Rina, I wouldn't be so dismissive if I were you. Kaizer was the one who brought you out of the campus grounds alive, followed by Raul and Franco who have refused to give their statements on what happened until they get the go-ahead from my son."

Keith glanced at Kaizer with furrowed brows. "Not to mention that he himself has not said anything about how he managed to survive the situation nor why he was the only one able to escape the campus on his own. Most of your peers and teachers who survived had to be rescued or coaxed out whereas he just waltzed out."

This seemed to alert Katherine and Charlene who remembered this fact but had subconsciously placed it at the back of their minds in the face of Rina's awakening. Rina herself seemed to realize something as she glanced at Kaizer who was still unruffled by all this.

"Brother…?" Rina, her defenses finally broken, asked in a soft and weak tone, seeking clarification.

Kaizer felt quite emotional within, for this was the first time in so many years that he heard Rina call him with such a helpless tone, and most of the time, it was when she needed him to be there as a brother.

However, she had no need to worry because he wasn't keen on speaking in riddles nor was he the type to withhold key information for mysterious reasons. Instead, he simply beckoned to a bowl of fruit beside Rina's bedside table that was outlined with a faint blue glow.

The bowl floated over to him slow enough that everyone within the room was able to see it, their eyes silently following the bowl as their expressions became slack, up until it hovered beside Kaizer, whose blue eyes now released a faint glow that none of them could miss.
