Chapter 4: The Husband and His First Wife (Part 2)
The next morning, as Alexandria was busy having her breakfast alone while reviewing some documents that her assistant send earlier, she heard a couple of footsteps rushing inside the dining room. Although she tried to ignore it and focused on one thing, the ruckus had already disturbed her.
She looked towards the entrance of the dining hall when she heard those familiar voices coming in. But in surprised, she saw her mother-in-law and Mr. Cowell rushing in with those infuriated looks on face. Some of the maid that worked under her, even Mr. Harlan, were also trying to stop the two to come near her.
However, they keep resisting and forcing their way that Alexandria put the documents on the table and stood up, facing them in confusion.
"What's going on here that you gave some of your precious time to come by yourselves?" asked Alexandria.
"You! It's your fault, right? You forced my son to do all of this sh*t. D*mn ingrate witch woman." Catherine, her mother-in-law said, pointing her index finger with those ferocious gazes.
"Catherine was indeed right. It's all your fault. What did you do this time? Did you beg your husband to do this to me because I called you a mistress? Where's the lie on it?"
"Mr. Cowell, Ms. Catherine, please calm down." Mr. Harlan uttered to calm the situation, but it only infuriates the two.
"Harlan, don't side on that woman. You already know what she had done to us."
Alexandria, who's a bit confused about the situation, couldn't help but frowned whilst staring back and forth between the two. She doesn't have any idea what's gotten on those two or any reason for them to get mad when, in contrast, it should be her who needs to get mad.
"Harlan, what's going on here? As far as I know, I'm just having a silent and cozy breakfast here by myself. Did a tiny mention of my name can ruin someone else? Such a great power I had there."
"You, imbecile." Catherine reached out her hand and about to slapped Alexandria, but stopped by Harlan. "Let go of me, Harlan. I should discipline that woman. She has no manners and respect, unlike Amber."
"Ms. Catherine, you better stop this commotion before it reached Mr. Felix's ear. He won't let this slide."
"S-Should I get scared of my son?"
Alexandria let out a brief laughed. "Aren't you? It seems like you're already swallowing your own words the way you said it."
"W-what?"
"Let me remind you that the one who saved your company in ruins and bankruptcy was none other than the son you were trying to push away when he needed you. The fame, money, and reputation you had now been all thanks to his dedication. Whatever he does to your company, it's all his responsibility now and you can't even dictate him. Am I right?" She stated, making her mother-in-law speechless. "I had a lot of works to do today, so Harlan tell me what's really going on here?"
"Ms. Alex, the thing is the news about the Sinclair Clothing Company cutting their decade partnership with WelCo Mall has been spreading around. The representative of our company didn't open up any reason behind it throughout the media, but Mr. Cowell and Ms. Catherine strongly stated that you're the mere reason behind it."
Both Alexandria's eyes widened in surprised for a second before composing herself and glancing at those two who keep glaring daggers on her. "Is that it? Do you think I have something to do with it?"
"You might have got offended last time about the things that happened at the party and told it to Mr. Felix. Who knows what you can do just to get back on us for humiliating you?" Mr. Cowell said.
"Mr. Cowell, please mind your words." Harlan warned.
"You have guts to open that topic once again, Mr. Cowell. I really got offended by the way you acted towards me that day, but if I were to get back on you, I should do it right at that moment. I don't even need my husband's help in it, but I simply didn't choose to be immature in front of all those people as per I'm only a substitute for my husband and it'll affect his reputation." Alexandria said. "At this rate, it's not me who you got offended, but my husband."
A lingering silence filled the dining room after she said those words. Even those two halted from moving and glanced at each other as if talking through their eyes.
Not until they heard a sudden applause from behind, which made them startled.
They looked in the same direction and saw Felix clapping his hand with those playful smirk on lips while looking back and forth between Mr. Cowell and Catherine. Behind him was his secretary, Harris Yang, nodding his head to Alexandria as a greeting.
"Well said, Adria." Felix stated as he looked at Mr. Cowell. "I heard it loud and clear. The way you acted proud enough to humiliate my wife during that party. Too bad you admitted it early. I'm planning to revoke my announcement after a few days, yet you made a terrible mistake, Mr. Cowell."
"Felix, this is all misunderstanding. You don't know what happened at that party. This woman wasn't innocent at all. She started all of it. Am I right?" Catherine uttered in desperation, glancing at Alexandria, but she just turned her gaze away. "You tell him everything that happened there. It's you who called us a burden, who's mooching of my son's money. You even called Amber as a home wrecker."
"Yeah, it's true. She said all those words. You can ask the rest of the guests that day."
Felix glanced in Alexandria's direction to confirm everything he heard, but she's not looking straight into his eyes. He just noticed her crossed both arms whilst fidgeting that made him shrugged.
"Even if it's true or not, I already had my decision and that's final. Now, stop making any ruckus and leave this premise in silence if you don't want another trouble to come in." Felix stated. "Mr. Harlan, escort them out of my residence and next time, don't let anyone come in without my permission. Do you understand?"
"I'm sorry, sir. This won't happen again." Harlan uttered. "Mr. Cowell, Ms. Catherine, let's head out in silence. It's not good if you resisted once again."
The butler guided the two out of the dining room, yet they hesitated to leave at first. But in the end, they ended up following him outside, not saying anything, though the anger on their faces was still visible as they glared back at Alexandria.
"The rest of you, leave me and my wife alone." Felix mandated to those maids and his secretary, which they did, leaving the two in an awkward quietude.
As soon as everyone went out, Felix head straight to the table. He just sat on the chair where Alexandria was before and took the documents—skimming on it.
Seconds to minutes had gone by, but neither he nor she broke the deafening silence that filled the entire area, so Felix let out a tremendous sigh as he put the documents back on the table. He glanced in Alexandria's direction, but she's still not looking at him.
"Would you mind telling me the truth? I'm waiting for your explanation. Do I need to point it out for you?" He said, yet Alexandria remained tight-lipped. "Still not saying a word? Let me rephrase my question. Did you start it or them?"
"Tsk. Does it matter who starts it? You don't know a single thing that happened that day. Why are you asking me like it's my fault?"
"Yeah, I don't know a single thing. That's the reason I'm asking you about the truth. Can't you just tell me the truth? I sacrificed my decade partnership with the Cowell Family just for you. Isn't it right for me to know the truth, so I won"t regret my decision?"
Alexandria bit her lower lips and clenched both fists as she glared at him. "If what they said was right and I really start all the commotion there, will you regret protecting me?"
"Of course, I'll regret it." Felix stated. "WelCo Mall has a lot of branches inside and outside of the country. For over a decade, they're one of the great help in my company. If you started all of it, then they had all the rights to defend themselves. Am I right?"
"What about me? Just because they didn't verbally start everything, it doesn't mean they're innocent. Like I told you, you're not present at that event for you to tell me I'm wrong and they're all right."
"Tell me. Tell me what offended you that you called my parents a burden and branded Amber as a home wrecker. Give me a reason that I can believe you."
Felix unconsciously raise the tone of his voice with such frustration that made Alexandria shed a tear whilst staring at him.
"D-Did I say something wrong? It's all true, isn't it? Your parents just wanted the money and fame you build up and Amber, that witch woman, because of her... It's because of her. You f*cking build this harem you had now because of her. She ruined us. She ruined everything I'm trying to protect, indeed a home wrecker. Am I righ—argh?!"
Alexandria's eyes widened that it almost came out from shocked when she felt a sudden stinging pain in her left cheeks. With her trembling hands, she held on it as a continuous tear fell on her eyes.
She got stiffened at her position, trying to analyze the thing that just happened in a split of seconds. But she only felt the pain of his husband slapped.
"You. Stop badmouthing Amber." Felix said. "Have you heard yourself? The one who ruined us was none other than you. The only person who couldn't do her job as a wife and bear a child is you. It's all your fault, so don't accuse other people of your shortcomings. She just fulfilled what you can't do."
"W-what did you just say?" Alexandria asked, looking at him with those quivering eyes full of tears in disbelief. "I'm asking you, what did you just say? Just because I had a miscarriage twice and lost our children... Did you think I wanted it to happen? That time, I needed you the most, but where the f*cking hell are you? You're already busy ruining the relationship we had. You're cruel. Too cruel to blame everything for me."
"Can you blame me for why I resort to that?" Felix asked. He abruptly grabbed her shoulder and forcefully face her towards him. "Alexandria, ask yourself what you had done wrong. It's not only about the child. It's all about you and you and you alone. F*ck. Don't make me regret I married someone like yo—"
"Felix!"
A familiar voice of a man reverberated inside the dining room amidst the tension between the two that made Felix snapped back to his senses and instantaneously let go of Alexandria's shoulder.
