Re: Chronicles - From Low Level to World’s Strongest

Chapter 3: Maybe I was Wrong

Iron sword, iron armor, fifty gold coins, anti-magic resistant clothing, weeks' worth of food, and healing potions.

I couldn't believe they obtained all of this in such a short time span, just how long was I asleep?

Not like it matters, those guys deserved it for trying to kill a baby dragon, claiming it wasn't real, just who the hell did they think they were?!

Walking the long dirt road, the baby dragon was kept on my shoulder, quite small and defenseless; it was the size of a hawk at least.

It's been an hour since I took those guys' belongings, and now I was heading outside of Keen Valley into a small village a few kilometers ahead. It was only a matter of time before I could meet new people who were just like me.

"Iyaaa, I can't wait to see the village! Aren't you excited, baby drago?"

"Hnn?" It tilted its head at me.

Oh right, I have yet to give it a name.

"Hmm, what should I call you?"

Placing my finger on my chin, I looked up in thought; there was a variety of names I could give them, with different meanings and interpretations.

Not to mention, I read so much fictional media that I was considering naming them after certain characters.

"How about Alduin? No… that's too obvious."

Crossing my arms, I lowered my head.

"Ermm, this is harder than I thought. I'm usually roleplaying on Discord with my Oc's and here I am, unable to make a simple name. How uncreative."

The baby dragon let out a small roar as if trying to speak to me.

"Eh? What are you trying to say?"

It roared again, but this time happily.

"Let me try something." I lifted my hand and cast a magic circle. "[Sage]!" Sage was a gift that could analyze any and all phenomena, regardless of what it was, this included language from other animals.

"Arrrghooo!"

With its next roar, I could see subtitles popping up in my field of vision, translating what it was saying.

It was saying it smelled of food!?

"Huh? Food?"

I read everything in my field of vision, but it was irritating.

"Uhh, subtitles are pretty annoying, I'm more of a dub kinda girl. Maybe I can change it?"

Bringing up my gift, [Sage], I could see multiple options for how it functioned.

Clicking on the list of options, there was one that allowed me to hear translations rather than see them in subtitles.

Wow, I didn't expect something like this.

"Awesome…"

I clicked on the dubbed translations, hearing everything the baby dragon was saying.

"Food! Food! Smell food!"

Aww, how cute, I couldn't help but laugh at its excitement to eat.

"Know what, I'm gonna call you Dragonborn, how does that sound?"

It looked at me and nodded its head.

"Dragonborn! I like it, my name is Dragonborn!"

"That's right, your name is Dragonborn, remember it well!"

Dragonborn nodded its head, rubbing its cheek into mine. Unable to help myself, I pat its scalp, giggling at its clinginess.

"Ehehehe."

Continuing our journey, we were about to walk down a long steep hill, until I saw a village far away in an open field.

It was pretty big; easy enough to be mistaken for a town.

"That must be where you're smelling food, huh?"

Dragonborn nodded its head.

"Food! Dragonborn is hungry for food!"

"…Yes I can see that, what are you hungry for, exactly?"

Dragonborn turned to me, seemingly smiling.

"Humans!"

"Oh, I see."

.....

"WAIT WHAT?"

"We dragons eat humans!"

I don't remember that happening in Telltale Chronicles!? I knew dragons were dangerous, but since when did they eat humans??

"This was never a thing! There's no way you dragons eat humans!"

Last I remember, dragons stayed away from humans, so why would they eat them? Wait a minute, could it be that the author is still writing the story and adding new ideas to its recent, unpublished volumes?

None of this makes any sense.

"Why confused? We dragons have been eating humans for the longest time."

No you guys haven't!

"Sure… but I don't think eating humans is a good idea, Dragonborn."

It gained puppy dog eyes.

"But Dragonborn is hungry…"

"You can eat something else, ya know? No need to consume human meat. There's plenty of other mammals out there that taste better than us."

"Okay… Dragonborn will eat what Sable gives."

"Iyaaaa, I'm glad to hear that."

I sighed in relief and continued walking down the steep hill, taking my time so I wouldn't trip.

"When we get to the village, I promise to find you deer meat, it's pretty good if you haven't tried it."

Dragonborn shook its head.

"No, Dragonborn never tried deer meat!"

"Well trust me, you're gonna like it."

I never tried it either.

I'm just trying to prevent it from consuming literal freaking humans!

Once we reached the bottom of the hill, I took a deep inhale, trying to catch my breath.

"Holy crap, this is what happens when you always sit in your room all day doing nothing."

I was tired.

"Alright… let me catch my breath before we continue."

I slumped into the grass beside me, lying down in the warm field of flowers, and staring up into the sky.

Dragonborn sat in the grass, folding its wings as it stared at me.

"Dragonborn… hungry…"

"I know… I know… but I'm tired right now."

Ugh, I didn't wanna move from this spot, I could just fall asleep under the morning sun.

"Just a bit longer, Dragonborn…"

"Sable is lazy!"

"Hey!"

I shot a glare at Dragonborn.

"I'm not lazy!"

I am lazy.

"I'm just tired!"

I'm lazy and tired.

"I barely touch outside because I'm always in the house talking on Discord all day!"

It tilted its head in confusion.

"You're always in disagreements?"

"Huh? Oh! No, that's not it, discord is an app you can talk to friends on."

"…App…?"

I huffed a sigh, smiling at Dragonborn.

"Don't worry about it, just know that I'm out of shape. My bones crack whenever I move…"

God, that sounds pitiful to say out loud.

"Why are you so unproductive?"

"I've always been that way ever since my dad left…"

Slowly standing back up, I dusted the grass off of me and picked up Dragonborn, placing them on my shoulder.

"But enough about me, why don't you tell me more about you, Dragonborn?"

"About Dragonborn?"

"Yeah, let me hear a bit about-"

Before I could finish my words, an explosion came from the village.

"Uwaaghh!!"

I nearly jumped out of my skin, feeling adrenaline course through my body.

It was so far away, yet felt so close.

The sounds of people screaming in the distance as multiple other explosions occurred, one after another.

"What the hell is going on?!"

"Attacker! Attacker!" Shouted Dragonborn.

"Shit… what should I do?"

I know I couldn't just ignore this, but I didn't exactly have a gift that could "fight" my enemies.

If I ran to the village right now, I'd be outclassed.

"Uhm… how should I handle this?"

Another explosion went off, but this time, it was bigger, and the screams got even louder.

"Okay… err… let's try this." I lifted my hand, bringing forth a magic circle. "[Sage]…" A hub appeared in my field of vision as I analyzed the assailant from afar. "Wow, this gift has some incredible range!"

It was another otherworlder and I could see everything about them. Their name was Yuki.

They came from the same world as me, but they were far older and more experienced in the arts of combat.

Apparently, they were a black belt in karate, with experience in holding guns, knives, and various other weaponry.

I stood no chance.

At least I thought—

"What the…"

All of a sudden, [Sage] gave me the option to see the best course of action in battle against Yuki.

Since when could it do all of this?!

"This is insane…"

I clicked on the option as information started flooding my head.

I could see a simulation inside my mind.

[Sage] analyzed the attacker's moves to form a simulation of them inside my mind, visualizing and battling my enemy until I found a way to defeat them.

It was like image training.

With this ability, I could predict my enemy's movements from these cognitive simulations, creating and breaking down countless possible attack patterns they might have by analyzing their height, weight, muscles, and personality.

I had everything I needed in order to win this fight.

"I can see everything…"

It was crystal clear.

I could see millions of attack patterns done by Yuki, allowing me to prevent them all, thanks to [Sage]!

This was a chance for my gift to show its true potential.

"Let's go… Dragonborn!"

It nodded its head as I ran toward the village, hoping I could make it there in time before other people were injured, or even killed.

"Watch my back while I deal with the attacker. Who knows if he has any help!"

"Understood!"

[Sage] only took my battle with Yuki to account, so if another person were to join in, all of those mental simulations it prepared wouldn't have mattered.

That must have been a weakness to my gift!
