Chapter 34: 34. The Final Blow
34. The Final Blow
Eryndor driven by the zeal to live succumbed to his instinct and placed his hand on the beasts lower abdomen and conjured a huge fire ball while adding basic air magic to it to make the flames hotter and increase the damage area. Without any regard for his own safety he left the class of magic collide and explode like a bomb set off my force.
A second later the lower half and guts of the wolf shot out in every direction, it's eyes widened in surprise and a second later it dimmed. It's strong jaw replacing a bit but remaining clamped down to his shoulder, he grunted and pulled it out from his arm and gave a loud cry in response.
The legacy rang out again:
[You have slain a normal beast "White Fur Mountain Wolf
You have recieved a soul essence]
Remembering there was still one more wolf he climbed to to his feet with one hand barely holding his bleeding arm intact. He noticed the last wolf at a distance it's head was sticking out of the sniw but it remained frozen, after a long while if staring at it and making sure it was not playing dead he finally came to a conclusion that it was dead. He fell on his butt and tried to catch his breath, his eyes still surveyed his surroundings afraid of any other beast eyeing him to be it's next meal.
After a few minutes he managed to recover a bit of strength and decided it was best to take the beast core and get out of the area before it would draw the attention of other beasts to their location. Killing one beast at his level was nothing short of remarkable, even if it was of the lowest rank. Killing a total of five if he counted the first one he had slain and in one night was a great feat. Call it luck or underhanded tactics, Eryndor did not care one bit. He had won and that made him happy.
The left eye spoke to him:
["Stop laughing, it's creepy"]
Eryndor froze and touched his cheeks, had he been laughing? How had he been oblivious to the fact that he had been laughing?
["You did good kid, I have to say you did exceed my expectations"]
Eryndor rolled his eyes and said in an angry tone. "No that is to you, shitty master."
["Fair point, but you have to understand that I can't just teach things to you if you have not proven yourself just yet"]
Eryndor staggered over to the first wolf and started to dig out its mana core with the use of a sharp rock he managed to come across by chance. With the help of the fire seeking eye he was able to know just where to did. After a while he asked the eye, "So how did I do?" He had to divide his attention between digging out the core and waiting for a response. He was losing a lot of blood and the effects were starting to show.
After a while the eye responded:
["You did good kid. I'm proud"]
Those words were enough to make him feel a sense of self worth and deep happiness. He even smiled a little. It took longer to obtain the core of the five white fur mountain beasts, by the time he was done and hour had passed. But the benefit was worth it.
Eryndor in a moment of greed wondered what would happen if he consumed them all at once but he shook of the thought. Just because he did not need to purify the beast cores before consuming them did not mean he had to push his luck. He had learned from his old self the errors of recklessness.
He took his time to clean the beast cores by bathing them in the snow, when he was done he started to gulp down the beast cores one at a time in succession. The first one went down and gave him a warm feeling, the second one made his stomach bubble, the third one made his body burn. But the time he took the fourth his veins were tingling and releasing hot steam. He proceeded to take the fifth and all the ones he had consumed before all reacted together causing him to fall to his knees and hold on to his chest.
He could hardly breath, his skin was on fire and he was sweating despite the blistering cold of the mountain. He could feel the stabbing of a million needles in his heart and he feared he would face a great drawback to his actions. Remembering the mana veins paths he had memorized when learning body tempering he initiated it in his mind, moving the excess energy across his body throught the complex network of his body. At first it was hard but due to his memory it became easier. The energy flowed and his body soon calmed down.
Announcing his success was the ever present legacy:
[You have consumed a dormant beast core
You have grown stronger]
[You have consumed a dormant beast core
You have grown stronger]
[You have consumed a dormant beast core
You have grown stronger]
[You have consumed a dormant beast core
You have grown stronger]
[You have consumed a dormant beast core
You have grown stronger]
Eryndor dropped on his back and gasped for air, his body felt lighter, and invisible shackle had left him. He wondered if this was what real mages felt whenever they got stronger. It was a feeling he did not want to ever miss out on, he was getting stronger even if ut was at his own pace.
He had consumed a total of six six dormant beast cores that day adding to a sum total of 300 magic points, that is if they all gave an equivalent of 50 magic points each. Just to be sure he looked up his legacy:
[Name: Eryndor Sylvaren
Race: Elf (Holy)
Title: Fallen Prince, Degenerate
Rank: Beginner Mage
Core: Dormant
Attribute: (Divine), (Legacy Of the crescent prince), (cursed)
Magic Point: 425/1000]
He would have given himself a pat on the back had he not been bleeding out, he knew he had to make his way back to the cottage, his night adventure had ended in success despite it nit going as planned. He had one more look at his other stats before proceeding back to the cottage:
[Magic Proficiency: Low
Mana Control: High
Mastery: Basic Mana Control
Mastery Ability: Wind magic (Basic)
Mastery Ability Description: Basic control over wind magic
Mastery Ability: Flame Magic (Basic)
Mastery Ability Description: Basic control over flame magic
Mastery Ability: Body Tempering Flame Technique
Mastery Ability Description: A body forged in the flames of the world can withstand the most brutal of forces]
He did not seem to notice any change in the second page and that pained him, he looked up the third page:
[Items:
Relics: Golden Eye
Relic Rank: Divine
Relic Description: Eye of the dragon monarch, it perceives the movement of heat
Allies:
Soul Essence: 5]
The noticeable difference here was the addition of a new slot. "Should essence? What's that?" He had gotten five for the five beasts he had slain but he did not receive anything for the one that had been killed by the avalanche.
Since there was no description for it he dismissed it and made his way back to the cottage, the rays of sunlight was beginning to touch the world in it's warm rays. A night ago there was a young degenerate prince losing his way and not a man was walking into the light with a newfound purpose.
