Chapter 5: Chapter One: The Seven
The paladin stood for a moment contemplating the orb, while he walked away to the right corridor B, to talk to Catlyn and Kevin.
- Tell me, did you manage to find the rest of them? - The paladin remained completely serious as he glared at them.
- No sir, but we have units checking the main corridor area, as well as the entrances and exits of the complex. - Catlyn stood her ground, not being intimidated by their presence while Kevin just stood by and watched.
- Keep me informed... and get rid of him, he no longer belongs to the Order. - The paladin left the room, leaving only Dwayne with 4 minions empowered with their new suits. Despite wanting to run and chase the Paladin, he knew it would be impossible. He was totally subdued and at the mercy of those who were once his companions, those with whom he shared several moments, both good and bad. Mentally he was devastated... There came a point where he just stopped putting up resistance, he dropped to his knees on the ground, allowing them to take him wherever they planned to take him.
- We didn't want it to come to this Dwayne, you should have kept quiet... in time you would have accepted it, it's best for everyone.
- Besides, where would you go? You have no idea about raids, you always stayed in this place behind the monitors. You don't know anything else besides this island.
These were some of the comments they made as they handcuffed him, preparing to take him in front of ground zero and finish the job once and for all. As they were ready to take him away, a noise coming from one of the ducts caught the attention of two of the escorts. Catlyn and Kevin stayed with Dwayne, while Jack and Molina tried to find out where the noise came from, at the same time from the ventilation system a smoke began to cloud everyone's vision, which raised alert the group, activating the combat mode of their suits in case it was necessary, after a few seconds they heard how something fell to the ground, triggering a spark that shocked everyone around and disabling the electronic devices in the area.
- Do you think it worked?
- I hope so, I'm going down. - One of the subjects came down from the ventilation, he was wearing a mask that was connected to a tank that provided oxygen, moving through the smoke he managed to identify who they were looking for. - I've got him, it's Dwayne. Come on down, activate the ventilation system when you're here.
- On my way," the man on the other side of the radio came down the same driver's side slit as the first guy, putting the ventilation system back on course, dissipating the smoke screen and allowing them to breathe and see clearly. - Put this in his nose, it's a cotton swab moistened with a little alcohol, it will wake him up instantly without a doubt. - Upon doing so Dwayne quickly stood up while coughing as a consequence of having inhaled the smoke, as soon as he regained consciousness, the small group would catch up on what had happened during the last few minutes.
- So the paladin personally went looking for them all the way to the warehouses, you son of a bitch," Dwayne tried to keep his composure while the other two were still assimilating what had happened to young George.
- Fuck... I can't believe he was capable of doing something like that, we're all definitely fucked," the raider put a hand to his mouth as he stared at the bodies of the guards with interest.
- If it had been up to him, we wouldn't have been able to escape from there in time. - The scientist tried to find something among the men who remained immobilized on the floor.
- What are you looking for? - asked the raider who, like him, was trying to see if he could find anything useful in the pockets of the subordinates.
- I'm seeing if it is still possible to recover any of the components of the suits, they work based on small crystals of zero-point energy," the scientist examined the power source of Catlyn's suit, managing to extract the crystal from it. - Bingo.
- Scientist, Incursor, we must go, those bastards won't be long in noticing the absence of all these - Dwayne still had a slight tremor in his voice even though he seemed to be calm, while his hands did not stop moving.
- I'm coming, I found something. - The raider had searched the pockets of the subordinates lying on the floor. He managed to find an identification card. - Now we can go.
The three of them started to run towards the elevator area located next to the cafeteria through the west wing A of the bridge room, which they managed to access thanks to the identification card they had found a moment ago, thus reaching the subway, where the dungeon was built.
- So you managed to convince him to join us? Who would have thought that you had a good tongue - commented the scientist while he carefully examined the crystal he had extracted a moment ago.
- It was relatively simple, we both shared interests... and you know what they say - Dwayne kept his eyes fixed on the door, lost in his mind.
- The enemy of my enemy is my friend, if I've heard that. - exclaimed the raider as he looked inside the elevator. - I honestly never thought we would get to this point, I mean... so long waiting for this moment, it seemed that we would not even be close to achieve such a thing.
- The plan went almost perfectly, except for what happened with George and the fact that they found out our hiding place, I could say that our success rate decreased a little, although 40% is not such an unfavorable result," said the scientist while he put the crystal back in his pocket, already approaching the basement.
- No matter what our chances are to get out of here... we must do it, let's not let George's sacrifice be in vain, we owe him. - That was the last thing Dwayne said before the elevator came to a complete stop. As soon as they entered the area they quickly made their way to where Origin was being held.
When they arrived they used the identification card to open the cell and take him out.
- I thought you'd never get here," said the orgen as he got up from the floor, ready to leave his cell. The moment he set foot outside the alarm went off. The tracking device he had around his ankle had detected that he had left his cell, activating the emergency protocol, which meant that all the troops knew where they were and were now on their way to them.
- Shit, now what do we do? exclaimed the raider while his heart was pumping faster and faster.
- We must remove the handcuffs from his feet first, so he won't have trouble running, raider give me the plasma dagger. - the scientist extended his hand towards him, receiving the device, placing it on his wrist. Clenching his fist he activated a plasma blade which he used to cut the chain that held both ankle cuffs together.
- Run, run, run, follow the Raider, he knows where to go! - The scientist put the device in his pocket, and the four of them ran quickly until they reached the end of the corridor, where their exit ticket was waiting for them. At the same time, the paladin was watching them through more cameras from the base's security room. Wondering where they hoped to get to once their walk was over.
- I appreciate the help, but I am still unable to unleash my power," the source continued to protest.
- Power? does he have powers too? - asked the raider as everyone continued to run.
- Don't get your head around it now, what matters is that it's our guarantee to get out of this damn place," replied Dwayne, then turned to look at the scientist on his right, "Do you think you can keep an eye on him?
- Did you do the endurance test I told you about?
- Yeah, hard as a rock, although what's on his wrists is still metal.
- I see, but I don't think that's the cause of the problem, otherwise the metal of the armor he was wearing that day would have weakened him.
- Are you implying that these handcuffs are made of the same materials? - How can you be sure that an armor coming from a reality totally opposite to ours can be made with the same materials?
- Because I was in the research sector, it was practically part of my job to analyze the components and minerals of whatever the Paladin ordered to be checked.
- Damn that doesn't matter now, without my powers this mission will have been in vain, everyone will die. - The origin burst into the conversation, everyone was silent, just tell me, can you do something with this or not? -
The scientist stared at the handcuffs for a moment. Noticing certain differences with the ones he had once helped to make, there was a device that linked them together instead of a simple chain.
