Chapter 463: Chapter 463: Snake Lord: It's Not That Big a Deal, The Dragon Pantheon Won't Attack Beastland Just for This
When a large-scale divine war breaks out between pantheons, the strategy often involves matching leaders against leaders, generals against generals, and soldiers against soldiers. No pantheon wishes to gamble the lives of their deities by attempting to hold back the stronger members of the opposing pantheon.
Unless they seek a high-risk maneuver, the strategy of mismatched combat doesn't work well in divine wars and only invites the risk of deicide.
Few deities are willing to risk their lives.
For the upcoming Beastland War, the dragon pantheon, seeking prudence, considered the entire array of giant deities and prepared for a large-scale divine war. If the relevant giant deities do not appear, the dragon pantheon won't uphold any principle of fairness and would gladly use superior numbers to overwhelm the opposition.
This is somewhat akin to an arms race.
To prevent the scenario where all giant deities show up to assist, leaving the dragons with fewer forces and falling into a disadvantage, the entire dragon pantheon must remain vigilant.
Conversely, to counter so many dragon deities, the giant deities must also all be present, lest they risk being killed one by one by the dragon gods.
After some time, the battle plan was thoroughly discussed. The metallic Dragon God slowly raised his enormous body, surveyed the surroundings, and spoke in a deep voice: "The war between avatars should advance to the next level."
"The giant deities are too fearful to fight in person, so let us be the ones to initiate the war between true deities!"
Pausing, the metallic Dragon God spread his wings wide and nearly roared: "Dragon pantheon, show your power and divine might! Let the watching races witness the thunderous wrath of the dragon deities!"
Meanwhile, in the Dragon Court plane, a silver dragon lifted his eyelids, then slowly closed them again, returning to sleep.
Undoubtedly, the upcoming Beastland War would be extremely intense. During the Glorious War, not all dragon and elf deities invested fully in any outer plane. Even during the Astral War when Garon ascended to godhood, only some of the dragon and elf deities were present, while the rest fought on various other planes.
Thus, when all dragon deities invade Beastland, it will be an awe-inspiring sight.
If they succeed in killing the four beast lords in Beastland, within the Storm Lord's domain, it will serve as a warning to all races: aiding the giant pantheon and interfering in the war won't leave you safe even in your plane, and the dragons will relentlessly pursue and destroy you.
This war is bound to be dangerous.
Garon's true body decided not to get involved. As a quasi-weak divine power, although he could match the weakest of dragon and giant deities, he lacked the power to protect himself in a chaotic battle.
Moreover, it was best for Garon's avatar to 'sacrifice' itself in Beastland.
Despite the intense divine war, deities would often retreat when realizing they were outmatched. Deities dying in such wars, even large-scale pantheon wars, are rare. Only one intermediate divine power died in the Glorious War, a truly devastating death, difficult to resurrect from.
So far, the dragon-giant war already appeared very intense to other races.
Since it started, two intermediate divine powers— the Frost Giant God and the Gnoll God— had died. More deities would likely follow, but given the long-standing enmity between dragons and giants, this was expected.
"The Beastland War... I hope Garon's avatar can successfully die, laying the groundwork for heavily injuring the Storm Lord."
With this in mind, Garon drifted into sleep.
Outer Plane, the Garden of Beasts—Beastland.
In the third layer of Beastland, the Forest of Night.
This was a region perpetually shrouded in darkness, with no sun or moon. Various luminous plants illuminated the world, revealing a wild realm filled with beasts, insects, and vegetation. The beasts ruled here, roaming in the darkness, waiting to fight other beasts for survival. Intelligent beings were rare.
Giant nightglow trees reaching thousands or tens of thousands of meters into the sky, bioluminescent mushrooms the size of plazas, and luminescent rushes covered the ground, creating a wondrous forest scene.
Tonight, there was no wind, and the environment was somewhat quiet, with only the constant roars of various beasts breaking the silence.
However, if one pressed their ear to the ground and listened closely, one could hear many rustling sounds, like some creatures crawling and moving on the ground with a disciplined rhythm.
Especially in certain lush areas, these sounds were most concentrated and prominent, as if they were everywhere.
Black, purple, green, red... snakes of various pure colors or a mix of colors lurked in rock crevices, coiled around tender branches, or hid in dense grass, their numbers uncountable.
Occasionally, they flicked their tongues, making terrifying hissing sounds that scattered nearby birds and beasts in fear.
This was the territory of the Snake Lord.
Among all the beast lords in Beastland, the Snake Lord wasn't among the top, but in the Forest of Night, it was quite powerful, with a vast domain and considerable strength.
At this moment, atop a tall, curved peak, a slender snake lay coiled, overlooking its territory of snake swarms. Its narrow vertical pupils were cold and emotionless, like a king among snakes.
It was three meters long but as thin as a few chopsticks.
As it moved, its smooth, delicate scales shimmered with different hues but ultimately darkened into a night-like black with a rainbow sheen.
This was the Snake Lord of Beastland, a quasi-intermediate divine power.
Beast lords were special, intelligent entities among all beasts in Beastland, possessing both wildness and cunning.
At this moment, the Snake Lord was deep in thought.
"I have involved myself in the dragon-giant war, risking becoming an enemy of the dragon pantheon."
"But I remain in Beastland, leading my snake army only through my avatar. Even the mighty dragon deities cannot harm me."
The Snake Lord flicked its tongue and raised its head, contemplating the night sky.
"Once the war ends, with the benefits promised by the Storm Lord, my kin will grow significantly in numbers, and perhaps I can become the second quasi-strong divine power in Beastland, after the Beast Lord."
The Snake Lord's heart was filled with anticipation.
The reason it risked participating in the dragon-giant war was because the Storm Lord's promised benefits were irresistible— after the war, regardless of the outcome, as long as the Storm Lord survived, he would use the reproduction authority to increase the snake population across endless worlds.
Reproduction authority originally belonged to Annan.
Annan had many offspring, far more than the current giant deities, because many of his children had died in internal conflicts, and all were deities.
Typically, the stronger a creature, the harder it is to reproduce.
As a top-level strong divine power, Annan had dozens of offspring, more than any other strong divine power combined.
This was because Annan controlled the reproduction authority.
Now, this authority was in the hands of the Storm Lord.
He intended to imitate his father, creating more offspring to strengthen the giant pantheon. However, the urgent war with the dragons made this unfeasible, as it would drain his power and take time to raise these offspring, so he hadn't implemented it yet.
Nevertheless, the Storm Lord used the reproduction authority to entice the beast lords.
The power of the beast lords came from their respective animal species. The larger the species, the stronger the beast lord. Annan's reproduction authority could boost the beast lords' strength.
Of course, anyone with a brain knew that cooperating with the Storm Lord was like seeking skin from a tiger, and it would also provoke the dragons.
Thus, only four beast lords in Beastland agreed to cooperate with the Storm Lord.
Most other lords were observing and waiting.
If these four lords could safely cooperate with the Storm Lord, others might follow suit, joining him and becoming enemies of the dragons.
This was one reason why the dragon pantheon quickly decided to invade Beastland and kill the four lords with overwhelming force.
But the Snake Lord's simple mind didn't grasp these intricacies.
It naively thought that the dragons' primary enemy was the giants and wouldn't go to great lengths to attack Beastland over them.
"Hiss, the dragon deities wouldn't attack Beastland just for this."
Thinking this, the Snake Lord coiled up comfortably, preparing to sleep.
Under the night sky, fireflies danced in the Forest of Night, beasts growled lowly, insects and snakes moved, and the atmosphere remained as peaceful as usual. As time passed, the Snake Lord also fell into a peaceful sleep, dreaming.
In its dream, the Snake Lord became the second quasi-strong divine power in Beastland thanks to the Storm Lord's reproduction authority.
Then, the Beast Lord, unwilling to see another quasi-strong divine power, attacked the Snake Lord.
But after a fierce battle, the Beast Lord fell before the Snake Lord, submitting to its might. The Snake Lord then became the strongest in Beastland.
Boom!
Space trembled violently, like thunder in the Snake Lord's perception.
The Snake Lord awoke instantly, looking up at the dark sky.
Beastland's planar barrier had been torn open in three places, revealing glimpses of dragon scales and claws, and a thick dragon aura surged forth.
The tangible dragon aura swept across the sky, forming a storm that swept up countless fireflies in the Forest of Night, resembling a starry river. At the same time, towering ancient trees swayed, their crowns de
formed under pressure, and their branches creaked.
Hiss, hiss.
The snake swarms in the Snake Lord's domain flicked their tongues uneasily, and other beasts felt the threat, lowering their bodies and whimpering.
In the next moment, a colossal fiery dragon claw ripped through the planar barrier, casting a shadow over millions of kilometers. The burning flames illuminated the night as if it were day, the high temperature distorting the air.
The fiery dragon claw, carrying immense power, pressed down on the Snake Lord.
"What?"
"Fire and Destruction Dragon God Karyx! No way, the dragon deities really dared to come to Beastland. Are they so fierce?"
Seeing the approaching dragon claw in its vision, the Snake Lord's heart tightened.
It instantly launched itself like lightning, traversing millions of kilometers in a moment, escaping the dragon claw's grasp.
Boom!
The dragon claw, as if from the heavens, struck the ground.
Ancient trees thousands or tens of thousands of meters high in Beastland were crushed, unable to resist the overwhelming force, turning to dust and then to ashes under the terrifying flames. The ground caved in, shattered, filled with cracks and ravines.
The dragon claw left a deep imprint covering millions of kilometers.
This was the Snake Lord's territory.
In an instant, countless of the Snake Lord's kin were crushed and burned to ashes.
The Destruction Dragon God's form was immensely grand, like a cosmic shadow beyond the sky, its entirety unfathomable.
At this moment, a pair of burning dragon eyes locked onto the Snake Lord.
"Snake Lord, hahaha, die!"
"Die, die, all die, turn to ashes, be destroyed!"
Karyx's face showed madness as he laughed wildly, spewing a breath of fire like a torrential storm towards the Snake Lord.
"Damn, I'm no match for the Destruction Dragon God."
The Snake Lord, bathed in the fire's glow, felt a slight burning pain and trembled.
Quasi-divine powers couldn't construct divine kingdoms. Even in their own domain, they only had some geographical advantage, but against a much stronger enemy, it was of no help.
Of course, this wasn't absolute.
Some powerful quasi-divine powers built kingdom-like domains that enhanced their strength. For example, the original Sun God once required many deities to break through his domain.
"Storm Lord, save me..."
As it dodged the Destruction Dragon God's breath, the Snake Lord cried out.
Unfortunately, before it could finish, the Snake Lord saw in horror that the sky of the Forest of Night was showing different colors: deep purple, dazzling gold, and five evil colors intertwined.
How could the Storm Lord not sense the dragons' arrival?
But as he left his divine kingdom, he was intercepted by the metallic Dragon God and the Undying Dragon Queen in the Forest of Light.
To the Dragon Gods, whose reverse scale had been touched, the beast lords must die.
At this moment, the clash of three strong divine powers sent shockwaves through Beastland, from the topmost Forest of Light, through the middle Forest of Dawn, and manifesting in the sky of the bottom Forest of Night. The divine might terrified countless beasts and beast lords.
The Snake Lord realized the dire situation but couldn't help itself.
As it desperately evaded the Destruction Dragon God's attacks, a divine sword, seemingly made of dragon scales and imbued with judgment power, formed and descended from the sky.
Another Dragon God arrived, slender and clad in dark silver scales.
It was the Justic and Judgment Dragon God, Landis.
In a fatal crisis, the Snake Lord hissed and split into billions of tiny snakes, some burrowing into the ground, some flying into the sky, some scattering in all directions.
"If even one avatar escapes, I can survive!"
The judgment sword also split into billions of small swords, precisely targeting each tiny snake.
The Destruction Dragon God stopped his breath and cast a spell, forming a giant ring of fire encompassing endless mountains and forests, trapping all of the Snake Lord's avatars inside.
Hiss!
A rain of swords fell from the sky, piercing trees, rocks, rivers... No matter how the tiny snakes dodged, the swords followed, accurately striking each snake's head.
The two top-ranking Dragon Gods cut off all of the Snake Lord's escape routes.
Meanwhile, streaks of light like shooting stars crossed the sky.
Giant deities responded to the Storm Lord's call, descending around the remaining three beast lords.
As for the heavily injured Snake Lord, it was abandoned without any chance of rescue.
