Chapter 130 - 130: Cleanup Begins
Chapter 130: Chapter 130: Cleanup Begins
Lu Hao nodded and said, “We can start by clearing the zombies from the houses around us, which will relatively make our stay here safer.”
“Don’t forget, there’s still a living person in one of the houses nearby,” Su Jin reminded him.
“Right, we’ll save that house for last.”
Lu Hao didn’t pay much attention to that person. The urgent task was to lead everyone in clearing the zombies and getting familiar with the surroundings. As for whether that person was friend or foe, even meeting face to face wouldn’t necessarily tell you, as everyone could be a pretender in the apocalypse.
In the nearby houses, almost every one had more or fewer zombies, and there were also some unrenovated vacant houses. It would depend on Mao Qiqi to help assess those.
After resting for a while post-meal, Su Jin suggested they first clear the villa with 16 zombies, and as for the places with fewer zombies, everyone could split up, which would save some time and allow everyone to rest earlier.
If possible, Su Jin still planned to let everyone rest for two days. If they could finish clearing the nearby houses’ zombies by noon, she would let everyone rest in the afternoon. Besides, Mao Zhihang and Yin Chengtian had just awakened their Special Abilities and needed to practice and explore.
Everyone agreed unanimously, and after resting for a while after the meal, they grabbed their weapons and went out.
Having a Metal Element Ability User to pick locks sure is convenient, Su Jin thought, as Mao Zhihang succeeded in picking a lock with his Metal Element Ability on his first try.
As Lu Hao had guessed, the moment they opened this house’s door, several blood-stained balloons were blown out by the wind. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” was spelled out with colorful balloons on the wall of the main hall. The cake and fruits on the table had long gone moldy, showing that indeed a party was happening here when the apocalypse erupted.
“Where are the zombies?”
Lin Tianhui asked nervously, clutching her watermelon knife. She wasn’t afraid of zombies; she was just afraid of zombies suddenly rushing out from places she couldn’t see.
“They are all down below,” Mao Qiqi pointed to the basement.
As soon as she finished speaking, two zombies already started crawling up from the basement stairway. Previously, they had all gathered in the basement, but now, having smelled living people above, they rushed to get up first.
“Hehe…”
These zombies moved slowly, perhaps because they hadn’t moved around much in the basement, or because they had never been exposed to the apocalypse’s rain. Lin Tianzhen and Huang Yunxiang used water arrows to take them down easily.
Lu Guanhai also used a fireball to knock two other zombies climbing up back down. Although those two zombies tried to continue climbing, they eventually ceased all movement as the fire reached their brains.
“Hehe”
Lu Guanhai laughed smugly twice, pleased that his ability could at least deal with ordinary zombies.
By then, the zombies downstairs had heard the noise and scrambled over each other to climb up. They were apparently a group of young people before turning into zombies, turning what was originally a joyous rave party into a gory hell of carnage…
The dozen or so zombies were quickly dealt with by the group. Guo Yang excitedly discovered that the hall still contained lots of unopened snacks, beverages, and even beer and spirits…
The cakes and pizzas were no good anymore, but there were still plenty of other things they could take, a pleasant surprise indeed.
“Guo Yang, you can check the basement; there might still be things worth taking,” Su Jin said. She didn’t have much need for these things herself, as her space had plenty.
After hearing her, Guo Yang thought it made perfect sense, so he kicked aside a zombie corpse blocking the hallway, took a flashlight from his space, and entered the basement.
The owner of this villa really knew what young people liked; the basement had been turned into a KTV. No wonder all the zombies were gathered here.
But Su Jin was right, there were still plenty of good things here – tobacco, liquors, mineral water, beer, sunflower seeds, and instant porridge…
Meanwhile, Lin Xiuyuan dug out some non-perishable items like ham sausages and canned food from the fridge that had stopped working.
They hadn’t expected dealing with the zombies here would turn up such goodies, making everyone look forward even more to the next few houses.
In the remaining villas, they also collected a lot of useful items, such as rice, flour, cooking oil, some instant noodles, and snacks. Su Jin didn’t take any of them, letting Guo Yang collect them all.
Guo Yang knew that Su Jin didn’t care for these trivial items.
Actually, he didn’t want them for his own consumption or use. When he had heard Lu Hao mention that this place would be turned into a safe base, he had an idea. He just wasn’t sure how difficult it would be to implement it; he decided to discuss it with everyone when the time was right. After all, there was no reason to refuse free things when there was still plenty of space to store them in his “Space”.
Finally, they reached the door of the survivor Qiqi had mentioned was still alive.
Xue Wanyi stepped forward and knocked on the door, but no one answered. He knocked a few more times, still no response.
“What’s going on?”
“Uncle Xue, that person has been in one spot without moving,” Qiqi said.
Not moving? Could he be dead? But if Qiqi said he was not dead, could he have fainted?
“Should we still go in?” Xue Wanyi asked hesitantly.
“Go in. Otherwise, we’ll never know who we’re living next to,” Lu Hao felt that since they were here, they should clarify the situation.
“I agree,” Su Jin raised her hand in agreement.
Ultimately, their curiosity prevailed, and they decided to have Mao Zhihang pick the lock again.
With familiarity from the previous time, Mao Zhihang quickly opened the door using his Special Ability.
A clean and tidy living room appeared before them. On the milky white sofa lay a man who appeared very thin. His cheeks had sunken in, and his lips were cracked and peeling; he had fallen into a coma.
“These are symptoms of dehydration, he must be suffering from hunger,” Xue Wanyi, who had seen many such backpackers, diagnosed that the man on the sofa had fainted from hunger.
Su Jin looked at the man, dressed in white pants and a white shirt; although he looked miserable, he at least didn’t appear horrific.
Seeing Su Jin staring at the man in front, Lu Hao, feeling a bit jealous, pinched her hand and pulled her to his side.
Su Jin: …
“Shall I try healing him?”
Lin Tianhui wasn’t sure if her healing Special Ability would work on someone who had fainted from hunger, but she wanted to attempt it.
Seeing Su Jin nod, and with no objections from the others, Lin Tianhui placed her hands on the man’s shoulder, trying to heal him with her Special Ability.
Within less than two minutes, the man’s fingers slightly began to move.
“Auntie Su, it’s working!” Liao Yifan noticed a change in the man’s expression.
Lin Tianhui hadn’t expected the results so quickly; she continued healing for another two minutes until the man’s eyes slightly opened.
“Are you… humans?”
The man’s raspy voice uttered a sentence.
Everyone: “…”
