Chapter 13: The Hundred-Day Banquet
When Hanxue heard the news, she rushed back to the inner hall while covering her mouth to suppress her laughter.
Once inside, she finally let out a hearty laugh.
It was the first time she'd laughed so freely since Consort Li's passing.
Although Aunt Yue had initially disapproved of Hanxue's actions, seeing Noble Consort Yu receive her due punishment made her secretly pleased.
"Hanxue, since when did you become so clever?"
Hanxue paused for a moment, then smiled sheepishly. "I just thought of it on a whim."
Taking little Yuanjiu from Aunt Yue's arms, she gently tapped the baby's nose and teased, "Your nursemaid has avenged you, Your Highness. Are you happy?"
Yuanjiu glanced at her indifferently.
Aunt Yue, however, quickly batted Hanxue's hand away. "Oh no, don't squash Her Highness's nose!"
Yuanjiu ignored them, focusing instead on her own quiet cultivation.
Aunt Yue sighed again. "Hanxue, I can't shake the feeling that we've stirred up too much trouble this time. It makes me uneasy."
"Uneasy? Why?" Hanxue replied nonchalantly.
Aunt Yue said, "The matter of Noble Consort Yu trespassing into the Cold Palace could have been downplayed, but you've turned it into such a big deal. I'm afraid this might catch His Majesty's attention. If that happens and Her Highness Yuanjiu is exposed, the trouble and danger for us will only escalate."
Yuanjiu who is not fully understanding the concern, instinctively opened her eyes to listen more closely to their conversation.
Hanxue's expression changed slightly. "That shouldn't happen, right? His Majesty has so many child; surely he won't focus on this matter."
Aunt Yue sighed, "I hope His Majesty's attention never turns this way."
Hanxue countered, "Aunt Yue, have you forgotten? At the royal child's hundred-day banquet, their magical power attributes would be tested. Whether we like it or not, Her Highness will appear before everyone at that time."
The hundred-day banquet was a ceremonial celebration for the royal child.
It was aerving three purposes: to officially announce their existence, to offer blessings for their future, and to determine their magical attributes.
It was a required rite of passage for every royal child.
"That's exactly what worries me," Aunt Yue said, her face full of concern. "Do you still remember Her Highness's eyes on the day she was born?"
Hanxue, puzzled, recalled that day with a trace of awe on her face. "Her Highness's eyes were breathtakingly beautiful. It's a shame we haven't seen them like that since. However, what does this have to do with your concern?"
Aunt Yue, who had served Consort Li in the palace for over a decade, understood the treacherous nature of the imperial court far better than the younger and less experienced Hanxue.
"Her Highness possessing a pair of seven-colored glazed eyes must mean something significant," Aunt Yue said gravely. "It's likely connected to her magical power. If others discover that Her Highness has such exceptional abilities, do you think the mothers of the other royal child will let her go?"
Hanxue remained silent.
