Rebirth of the Ninth Princess

Chapter 22: Unveiling the Mystery

Without a doubt, she was his child.

The resemblance to him was striking.

Yuanjiu immediately understood what his expression meant.

Her disguise spell had expired, revealing her true appearance.

Ouyang Qingcheng gave her a peculiar smile while holding Yuanjiu close to his chest as he rose up.

After signaling to Cailun, he walked out.

Behind him, Cailun's voice echoed: "His Majesty has decreed that all esteemed guests—lords, ladies, princes and princess—may enjoy themselves freely and at leisure."

Upon returning to the Heavenly Dragon Palace, Ouyang Qingcheng placed Yuanjiu gently on the dragon bed and began scrutinizing her intently.

This child had given him far too many surprises.

What exactly was the "face-changing" trick from earlier?

Could it have been the work of those two attendants by her side?

He immediately dismissed the thought.

Those two people would never dare to attempt something so bold.

"My royal daughter, what secrets are you hiding?"

Yuanjiu remained silent, her small hands unconsciously covering her stomach.

I'm so hungry...

"Someone," Ouyang Qingcheng called out.

Remarkably, he had understood her subtle gesture.

A palace maid promptly appeared at his summons.

Ouyang Qingcheng instructed her to prepare warm milk immediately, then summoned Aunt Yue and Hanxue into the chamber.

As the palace maid helped Yuanjiu drink the milk, Ouyang Qingcheng's sharp eyes bore into Aunt Yue and Hanxue, who knelt on the ground, not daring to rise.

"What? Are you waiting for me to ask?"

Aunt Yue lowered her head, her voice steady but her palms slick with sweat. "Please forgive this servant, but I do not understand His Majesty's intent."

"Oh?" Ouyang Qingcheng's tone grew colder, a clear sign to those who knew him well that his patience was wearing thin.

The temperature in the room seemed to drop.

Cold sweat dripped down Aunt Yue's back.

Hanxue quickly interjected, "Your Majesty, this servant knows you care deeply for the Nine Princess, but in doing so, you may unintentionally put her in greater danger. We were only worried for her safety and had no intention of overstepping our bounds."

Ouyang Qingcheng give her a chilling laugh. "So, you think I am incapable of protecting my own kid?"

"We dare not!" Aunt Yue and Hanxue prostrated themselves further, fully aware that they had pushed the Emperor's limits.

"Then why are you hesitating? Speak at once—what exactly has been happening with the princess?"

After weighing her options, Aunt Yue decided that Ouyang Qingcheng bore no ill intent toward Yuanjiu.

She recounted the strange occurrences during Yuanjiu's birth and the recent oddities surrounding her.

By then, the palace maid Xiaoci, had finished feeding Yuanjiu.

Ouyang Qingcheng, with an imposing air, warned, "I don't want a fifth person to know about what happened today."

After dismissing everyone, he stretched out on the bed, propping his head on one arm as he gazed down at the small, quiet figure lying beside him.

What a mysterious little thing, he thought.

"My darling, you truly are as quiet as they described."

In less than an hour, Yuanjiu had gone from being an unnoticed child to being called "my darling"? Yuanjiu turned her head coldly to the side, ignoring him.
