Chapter 125: Big Mara
He looked like a man, but Bian knew this spirit was no man. He was Big Mara, the clone of the Ancient Devil.
Big Mara brought out a scripture and began reading from it. A milky white light spread from him as he uttered an unspeakable language.
The creatures which heard this were strengthened, and their gene locks were opened.
Even Hope, Faith, and Love Spirits were shocked to find their gene locks opening.
Bian, meanwhile, didn't appreciate the use of external forces opening gene locks for him. Although he also stood in the white light, none of its mystical powers affected him.
In the ocean, he had killed a humanoid creature with skin of water and a skeleton of fire. The beast soul of this creature, called Enraged Current, was a surrogate beast soul that could absorb the effect from its user.
This meant if Bian was to be stabbed while the surrogate beast soul was active, the damage would be transferred to it, while he would remain unharmed.
He wasn't yet sure of the limits of the surrogate beast soul, but it seemed to be working well enough as the effects of Big Mara were transferred to it instead of him.
Sadly, the beast soul didn't seem to be getting any stronger. Watering a stone won't make it grow. A surrogate beast soul didn't have gene locks that had to be opened.
"This is incredible," Faith Spirit muttered.
The Knight-class spirits were experiencing a surge in power as more of their gene locks were opened. They quickly rose from having four gene locks open to the fifth.
Then the sixth in the next minute and the seventh gene lock a dozen minutes after that. Being so close to Big Mara, they benefited more than those creatures which were further away.
Their eighth gene lock was opened by the scripture in under an hour. The spirits were grateful beyond words for this opportunity.
'So this is why the creatures here are so strong!' Bian shook his head, then froze when he saw Big Mara looking at him.
Suddenly, the attention of the world seemed to converge on him, and he heard the scriptures much louder in his head.
It was so disturbing that he had to close his ears with his hands just to relieve the pain a little bit.
'Oh no!'
Bian felt the strength of the surrogate beast soul rapidly draining. It would soon be used up, and he would have to deal with the power of the creature by himself.
He put the body pillar into hyperdrive as he activated Jadebody. As the surrogate beast soul was sapped of all its strength, Bian threw a punch towards Big Mara.
There simply wasn't enough time to summon a weapon, so he mustered all his strength into that blow.
The dreadful power in his blow would be mighty enough to topple most super creatures, and yet Big Mara took the blow to the face and only took three steps back.
The white light disappeared, and the chanting stopped.
"Huh, what just—"
Bian returned the three spirits to his soul sea and watched the spirit warily. Blood was now trickling down its nose, telling him that his punch was not inefficient.
Big Mara pointed a finger at him, then said in a deep, resentful voice, "Kill him!"
The sinister six super creatures immediately sprung from their positions like rabid wolves, ready to devour him whole.
"Tyrant!" Bian called out as he summoned the ten-meter Minotaur. Ironically, the first opponent it faced was the hundred-meter Hydra, which rammed it using a horned head.
A low thud was heard as the Strength Overlord caught the charging snake head.
Bian dodged an energy attack just in time to turn and see another snake head charge at the Strength Overlord.
Without moving a step, it caught the second head also. Then in a display of brutal strength, white smoke flowed out of its nose as it forcefully lifted the Hydra and ripped it into two pieces from the two heads.
[Super Creature Multi-Headed Demonic Gorgon Killed. The beast soul has been acquired. The flesh is edible. Eat the Multi-Headed Demonic Gorgon to gain 0 to 20 super geno points randomly.]
"Super strong!" Bian said in awe.
The other five creatures which were pouncing towards Bian took a step back and reconsidered the Minotaur.
The steel-like creature, tiger creature, and dog with two heads attacked it, while the humanoid creature and sheep attacked Bian.
Not having the liberty to watch the Strength Overlord do battle, Bian turned to face his opponents.
The golden blade of the vambrace went straight for where the neck of the sheep would be under the wool.
Bian usually pushed through all resistance when cleaving through flesh and bone. Yet this time, he felt no resistance at all as the blade went through the white fluff of the sheep.
He barely managed to swerve sideways, causing a dark purple beam to scratch the shoulder area of his vambrace.
The gold metal sizzled as it began melting, so Bian had to recall the beast soul lest it was destroyed.
He jumped away from the sheep and turned to face the creature in the sky, clad in armor with its wings outstretched and purple beams condensing at its fingertips.
"Annoying!"
Bian heard the announcement as the steel creature was killed by the Strength Overlord. He refused to be outdone by his new companion and charged at the sheep again.
The indigo light of the Emperical Aura spread around the shelter, helping keep track of the fast-moving creature and the corrosive beams it shot.
Bian threw a quick punch at the sheep, but it was quicker to avoid his blow. The sheep seemed to be as light as a feather. It darted across like a white spirit, forcing Bian to chase it down.
The creature above never stopped assaulting Bian with those corrosive beams, unaware that it was playing into his trap.
The essence of Heavenly Go was all about positioning. The Dongxuan Movement was even more incredible when it came to predictions.
With impeccable timing, Bian tricked both creatures by using his body to block their sights.
Instead of chasing after the sheep, he dashed to the side, avoiding a fast-approaching corrosive beam which went towards the retreating sheep.
They were moving on a straight line, the sheep and the beam. With no way for the fast sheep to dodge the even faster beam, its fluffy wool was corroded by the beam, which seemed to cost it some pain.
Bian didn't miss the opportunity as he heard another announcement, meaning Tyrant had taken out another of its opponents and was left with one remaining.
Bian delivered an explosive Yang-powered punch, scattering the skull of the sheep with a single blow.
He ignored the announcement for the kill and hurriedly dodged sideways, barely avoiding the corrosive beam from the sky.
"Useless, utterly useless!" the spirit, Big Mara, finally spoke when it saw the creatures had no chance of defeating Bian.
It turned into a beam of light and flew towards the sky of emptiness, heading straight for the impossibly huge statue of the devil woman holding a part of the shelter.
"Not good!"
Bian quickly opted to finish the humanoid creature. He jumped into the air after it, but it easily avoided his grasp.
Bian turned around and punched out using his esoteric Yin and Yang fusions. The force of his punch traveled several meters and struck the wing of the unsuspecting creature.
"You're not the only one with quick, silent projectiles." Bian groaned in frustration.
In his haste, he couldn't completely avoid the ten beams of corrosive light shot out by the creature.
A beam passed by his cheek, dealing minimal damage to him. Its corrosive property failed to damage his jade body.
In exchange for the attack, Bian was already before the fallen creature. Before it could attack again, the heel of his foot stomped on the head of the creature.
A large thud was heard, as inky blood and sinew splattered everywhere. At the same time, Tyrant dashed through the fire and ice barrage and finished off the two-headed dog.
All other super creatures were dealt with, save for the most dangerous one. The large copper statue began to move, its wings unfurled, and its claws elongated.
"Ten gene locks opened. This isn't going to be easy."
Bian summoned beast soul armor and an aura beast soul to boost his armor. He stood side by side with Tyrant as they faced the colossal Big Mara.
