Episode 14
Episode 14
Baltzfeld’s sub-quest “Rescue of Illegal Slaves” was originally meant to be completed by just destroying the hideout.
However, if you discover the hidden passage, you can obtain rewards such as money and powerful equipment, making it a recommended sub-quest to clear, though not essential for progression.
“(I remember, I swindled them out of strong weapons, armor, gems, and precious metals before the Baltzfeld family could take them away.)”
In the original story, Baltzfeld was controlled by Hyann, a known greedy individual.
While Hyann had already deceased during the sub-quest, his son, upon learning about the hidden assets of the collapsed trading company, interferes with the adventurers.
Not only was he originally disliked, but his actions earned strong criticism from players, including myself.
The furious protagonists, angry at the interference, manage to sneakily take a portion of the assets as an additional reward in the game.
“Rios, look at this sword! Undoubtedly the work of a renowned blacksmith. All of these swords are exceptional!”
Excited, Alshade points to a beautiful sword with a pale blue blade. She seems captivated by all the other swords displayed, her eyes shining.
Uninterested in gems and decorative items, she heads straight for the swords, revealing her true nature.
Alshade’s mature appearance contrasts with this childish behavior, and it warms my heart to see her like this.
“Now, should I look for what I want… Huh?”
As I was about to search for a weapon I wanted to acquire, I noticed a certain sword.
It was the same pale blue sword that Alshade had pointed at earlier.
“(Somewhere… Alshade… pale blue sword… Ah, it’s the magic sword, Finbul.)”
The magic sword Finbul was Alshade’s weapon in the original story, known as the strongest ice attribute magic sword.
I didn’t expect to find it here, but upon further thought, it doesn’t seem that strange.
Alshade must pass through this room to escape, and that’s probably when she found Finbul.
Considering her excitement, she must be a sword maniac. Even if she doesn’t know its name, she would choose the best sword for herself.
“…Well, she’ll probably choose that sword anyway, so I’ll leave it be.”
When I looked back at Alshade, she was still engrossed in the other swords, occasionally expressing amazement.
At this rate, it should be safe to leave her alone a little longer.
Among the various works of art like swords adorned with mysterious light, elaborately decorated white bows, solemn green spears, shields with the emblems of guardian gods, dragon scale armor, and golden helmets, I pick one spear.
“Found it… This is it.”
The spear looks ordinary, except for yellow lines running geometrically along the blade, and to be honest, it pales in comparison to the other mentioned weapons.
It should be a mid-ranking weapon among those here in terms of performance. But I have a reason for choosing this spear.
“After all, when it comes to Rios, it’s all about spears.”
In the original story, the mercenary Rios was skilled in using spears. So I should have a talent for spears as well.
If I choose a spear with a compatible attribute, it naturally leads to this spear, the magic spear Tonitos.
Carefully swinging it, it feels like it fits my hand perfectly, as if I’ve been holding a spear for a long time.
“I can somewhat figure out how to move. I’m quite impressed with myself.”
Perhaps due to my talent, every time I swing the spear, I can identify unnecessary movements and correct them, which makes it enjoyable. But after a few swings, my arm reaches its limit, forcing me to stop.
When I turn around to head back to Alshade, I’m surprised to find her standing behind me.
“Y-you were here. You didn’t have to wait for me, but I’m glad you called out.”
“I got to see something amazing. Although you’re still a novice, it’s fascinating to watch how your movements are becoming more precise. Not just etiquette, but you also possess talent in martial arts.”
Feeling a little embarrassed by her praise, I shrug my shoulders to brush it off.
“I suppose I should be careful not to disappoint you as your knight.”
“Yeah, I guess I should be careful not to disappoint you either.”
Seemingly understanding my attempt to hide my embarrassment, Alshade smiles mischievously and playfully says so.
Looking away from Alshade’s mesmerizing smile, I notice that she’s holding the sheathed Finbul.
“If you stay true to yourself, I don’t think I’ll be disappointed. But anyway, did you get that sword?”
“Yeah, you were watching earlier, right? This one’s called Finbul. It’s probably the most potent sword among the ones here. Honestly, this magic sword is too much for me to handle. I would be swayed by its capabilities and wouldn’t be able to use it casually. But, I’ll need it for the battles ahead.”
Alshade gently strokes the hilt of Finbul.
High-level weapons like magic swords and magic spears require players to increase their proficiency in the corresponding martial arts to fully unleash their capabilities in the game.
“Alright, sit down, Rios. Let’s get started with unlocking your mana. There might be some discomfort or pain, but try not to struggle too much.”
“Understood.”
Nodding in response to Alshade’s instructions, I sat down and take a deep breath, preparing myself for what’s to come.
Alshade stands in front of me, placing her hand on my head, and closes her eyes, as if concentrating on something.
“…Guh…!”
Instantly, a feeling of discomfort, as if something is flowing backward through my blood vessels, and a sharp pain as if something forcibly opens a closed door, attack my head.
I inadvertently let out a groan, but manage to hold back my body from thrashing too much using sheer willpower. However, I feel unpleasant sweat forming on my forehead and back.
As the discomfort and pain reach deep into my abdomen, I sense some kind of power welling up from the depths of my belly. At that moment, the discomfort and pain vanish.
“…Phew… Is it over?”
“My part is done, but I don’t think your pain has completely subsided yet.”
“What do you mean… Ah, ow, oww, owwwww….!”
The surging power tries to move throughout my entire body, but as it starts, a sharp pain runs through my lower body.
I can’t bear it and end up rolling on the floor, writhing in pain.
“The pain you’re feeling is the sensation when magic power first flows through your magic circuit. It should subside after a little while if you endure it.”
Alshade takes a step back from me as I start rolling on the floor. I think she’s saying something, but the pain leaves me with no room to pay attention to what she’s saying.
Afterward, for about a minute, I continue to roll on the floor, enduring the excruciating pain.
