Reborn as an Overpowered Character in the Early Stages of the Game~ Realizing I’m Transferred to a Game World Only After Getting Involved in Prequel Events~

Episode 17

 Chapter 17

“…Unleash, the freezing breath of 《■■ki■■■■■■■ Finbul》!!”

From the thrust-out pale-blue tip, a swirling vortex of silver emerged, rushing forward, spreading cold and violent gales, swiftly engulfing the massive form of the Golem.

The room’s temperature dropped instantly, and the gray floor was blanketed in white. Though I managed to evade being caught in the aftermath, it seemed dangerous enough to cause frostbite if one got caught in it. So, I retreated to the wall’s edge.

Several seconds later, the silvery vortex disappeared, leaving behind traces of cold air. Frost approached my position near the wall.

“It’s cold… What happened to the Golem?”

Looking towards where the Golem had been, it had turned into a white statue, still bent over. The light had vanished from it’s full-face, indicating complete cessation of function.

I sighed in relief, and my breath turned into white smoke in the freezing air.

“To think it couldn’t even come close to its original performance. This magic sword now is like a joke to its original potential .”

Barely able to activate the weapon skill, the true power of Finbul was merely a gentle breeze in comparison.

Moreover, Finbul had two more weapon skills in reserve. Being an ice attribute’s strongest weapon wasn’t just for show.

“I could use some warmth… Let’s try 《Fire》.”

Careful not to turn into a human torch, I manipulated mana to activate 《Fire》. Since the size could be adjusted with mana, I created a small flame in my palm.

Feeling comforted by the warmth of the fire, I headed towards the stairs where Alshade was, carefully walking on the frozen and frosted floor.

“Hey, Alshade, that was amazing!”

“…”

“…Alshade?”

Even when I called out to her, Alshade just stared at Finbul in astonishment, showing no sign of realizing my presence. So, I approached and tapped her shoulder.

“…Oh, sorry, I didn’t notice you. I didn’t expect it to be so powerful… Wasn’t it close to dragging you in?”

“No, I stayed away beforehand, so I’m fine.”

Alshade lifted her face, looking apologetic. But it was understandable that she was in such a daze; after all, she probably never dreamed that Finbul, which she couldn’t fully utilize due to her lack of skill, would activate such a powerful weapon skill.

Even if I were in her shoes, I’d be left in disbelief by the sight before me.

She finally sheathed Finbul in a daze. I spoke to her.

“What was that?”

“That was Fibul’s weapon skill. Magical swords, sacred swords, or any weapons that rival them all possess some form of special ability. And they reveal that ability once the wielder has gained enough skill. Your spear is also a magic spear, so I think you’ll be able to use it eventually.”

“Talking about weapons as if they have a will of their own.”

“They actually do. My mentor and some acquaintances who are blacksmiths say the same thing. Though Finbul is my first experience with magic swords, I was strangely drawn to it, and I’ve heard stories about weapons choosing their wielders, so it must have chosen me.”

“I see.”

It was good to hear the explanation. Now, I wouldn’t be surprised if people found it odd that I knew the basics of weapons.

…Among sentient weapons, Finbul was quite dangerous, so I should avoid touching it as much as possible.

“Let’s try to activate the weapon skill as our goal. Well, I don’t think you can reach the same power as before.”

“Yeah, that’s probably true. Finbul being an amazing magic sword plays a part, but it’s also because of my innate Gift, 《Absolute Ice World Niflheim》.”

“You possess a Gift?”

“Yeah, it’s called 《Absolute Ice World Niflheim》.”

Gifts were special abilities bestowed upon those who accomplished great feats, such as defeating the boss of a certain magic realm dungeon or defeating powerful enemies under specific conditions.

The effects varied widely, and many players tried various challenges to acquire specific Gifts.

However, it wasn’t just about collecting them; there was a limit of three Gifts that could be used during combat.

While it was possible to switch Gifts during battle, it left the user motionless for three turns.

Against weak enemies, it might not be an issue, but in battles against strong foes like boss fights, a meticulous plan was required; otherwise, it would become a significant vulnerability.

As a result, discussions about the best combinations of Gifts were frequent on the internet.

But let’s leave that aside.

Anyway, usually, Gifts were special abilities granted by gods after achieving some significant accomplishment. However, there were rare cases where some people were born with Gifts.

One of them was Alshade.

The effect of her Gift, 《Absolute Ice World Niflheim》, was simple yet powerful, enhancing ice attributes and penetrating resistances. Combining 《Absolute Ice World》 with the magic sword Finbul made it the worst nightmare for enemies.

Regarding its power, the producer of “The Chronicles of Wildia.” had this to say:

[Alshade hasn’t shown her full power in her battles even with the protagonists. If she unleashed her full power, she would rival end-boss class enemies.]

Many players were astonished and convinced by this statement. After all, during the battles, Alshade hadn’t used any of the high-powered wide-range magic she was capable of.

( “…If you ask me, those producers have a point. I mean, Alshade didn’t show off any of her amazing wide-range magic during battles with the main characters.”)

Well, most players ended up wiped out on their first encounter with the Golem.

“But, even without 《Absolute Ice World》, it might not be usable in the upper battles,” she said.

“Why’s that?”

“Actually, that weapon skill earlier seemed to be its lower limit. If we were to use it in a place like Baltzfeld, things would get really messy. Even in an emergency situation, we can’t go about destroying a city ruled by the next heir. Especially when the civilians haven’t been evacuated.”

“…Then, we can’t use it in the mansion where our allies are captured either.”

“That’s right. But well, since Finbul itself is a renowned sword, it shouldn’t be a big issue.”

Saying that, Alshade smiled wryly, her expression reflecting her dilemma.

Well, it was understandable. A powerful trump card being effectively sealed would bring about such expressions.

“Anyway, there’s no point in discussing everything here. Let’s get back to the surface first,” I suggested.

“Sounds good,” she agreed.

I led the way up the stairs. In reality, I only knew that they led to a certain mansion. In the game, we were interrupted by the lord after investigating the Golem’s room, so I was taking extra caution.

As we ascended the stairs carefully, I noticed something near the top step.

“Is this… ashes?”

“It does look like ashes. Does that mean the exit is near a fireplace or stove?”

If the entrance was inside the fireplace, that would be quite a cliché development. Either way, it would be better to avoid getting ashes all over us when the entrance opens.

“I don’t want to get covered in ashes.”

“There shouldn’t be anyone living upstairs, and I assume the previous owner must have done minimal cleaning before leaving, considering it was bought by someone else.”

“Why is nobody living here? It’s quite sizable, right?”

“After the arrest of the previous merchant owner, it was sold to a wealthy merchant, but the business declined, and they had to let go of the mansion. Since then, no one seems interested in buying it.”

“So it became an ill-fated mansion.”

If bad things happened to two consecutive owners, it wouldn’t be seen as a good sign, and wealthy people wouldn’t willingly buy it.

“Anyway, it’s convenient for us. Alright, let’s open it.”

“…Remember, we have to use polite language when we get to the surface.”

“I know.”

Alshade placed the ring against the magic circle drawn on the wall, and just like the entrance, a stone slab came down from the ceiling, sliding horizontally and fitting into a groove on the wall.

[T/L: In the original game Alshade refrained from unleashing her full potential cause all her battles were fought in Baltzfeld and she wanted the avoid it’s destruction as she explained]
