Reborn as an Overpowered Character in the Early Stages of the Game~ Realizing I’m Transferred to a Game World Only After Getting Involved in Prequel Events~

Episode 35

Chapter 35

“Lord Rios, I’m glad to see you awake and well.”

“Orto-san, I heard you helped rescue me. Thank you.”

Contrary to my expectations, the maid had only brought Orto with her.

By that time, Alshade had climbed off me and was now sitting in a chair beside the bed.

Relieved by these two facts, I expressed my gratitude to Orto for saving me.

“Don’t worry about it. I’m sorry for not coming to help sooner. I had a bit of trouble dealing with a guy named Barots.”

“Don’t blame yourself. Orto-san, you mentioned that he was a formidable opponent from the start. It’s understandable that you struggled against him. In fact, you holding him back is what saved us.”

“Exactly. In the end, Orto made it in time, and no one died, and there were no aftereffects. Besides, Finbul’s rampage was my own lack of experience, to be honest.”

“I appreciate you saying that.”

Supporting Orto’s self-blame, Alshade chimed in with her reassurance.

Orto seemed to outwardly accept it, but he was probably still concerned about the fact that I, a child, almost died.

Well, there’s nothing to do but wait for time to heal that.

“By the way, what happened to Finbul?”

“Oh, Finbul is in my room, but I have no intention of using it, so it’s essentially sealed. I wanted to seal it properly, but when it comes to a sword of that caliber, it’s quite difficult to contain.”

Normally, a rampaging sword that disobeys its master’s orders would be a prime candidate for sealing. But when it comes to Finbul, there aren’t many individuals capable of sealing it.

Finding individuals of that caliber would be difficult and they’d probably demand a hefty fee.

Considering that, it makes sense not to use it until Alshade can fully control it.

And to prevent any accidental outbursts, it’s likely kept in Alshade’s room.

“Fortunately, it seems to understand that its rampage wasn’t appreciated. It’s been surprisingly well-behaved. There haven’t been any issues over the past two weeks.”

“Do swords reflect and learn from their mistakes?”

“Well, I thoroughly gave it a beating, so it might just be sulking.”

Orto said that with a wry smile.

Come to think of it, while checking on Hyann’s safety, I also managed to break that ice statue of the wolf and the ice sword, didn’t I?

High-level armaments often have quite a bit of pride, so the possibility of sulking is quite high.

“It was quite satisfying. After repeating it two or three times, it seemed to understand the difference in strength, and Finbul became quite docile.”

“I would have liked to see that.” Alshade said.

It would have been satisfying as Alshade said, to witness a scene where Finbul was utterly helpless.

As someone who was beaten to a pulp by that sword, I absolutely wanted to see it.

“Well, something like that, Alshe-sama would be able to do it quickly. Of course, I think Rios-dono could do it too. If you were able to hold your own against that despite being a novice in martial arts, it’s safe to say you have plenty of talent.”

“Really? In that case, I need to quickly regain my physical condition through rehabilitation.”

“Huh? You don’t need rehabilitation, I think? Well, today and tomorrow, we’ll take it easy and have you stay in bed for the most part.”

“What?”

Surprised by Alshade’s words, I blurted out a foolish voice.

I’m probably wearing a face that resembles a pigeon that just got hit by a pellet gun.

Even if my injuries were completely healed through recovery magic and potions, I would have thought that two weeks of bed rest would require some form of rehabilitation…

“Rios-dono, if it’s been only about two weeks, you can use magic to enhance your body’s condition. Moving around shouldn’t be a problem.”

“R-Really?”

Magic is amazing, is the only elementary-level thought that came to my mind.

Certainly, if the reason for needing rehabilitation is muscle atrophy, then strengthening the body with magic should solve the issue.

“(…Wait, I was bedridden for two weeks, and now she’s suggesting that I should use magic to move as easily as…)”

“Hey, you’re not thinking something rude, are you?”

“…… Sorry.”

Alshade grasped my hand with a smile.

I considered denying it, but I realized that once I recognized that what I had been thinking would come across as rude, it would be a lie that was exposed.

In that case, being honest might still be less damaging.

I need to be careful about what I think in her presence… She said she can’t read thoughts, but the fact that she caught onto it without me saying anything suggests it might be more like a woman’s intuition.

In that case, being honest might still be less damaging.

Because I can’t lie to her, I need to be careful about what I think… It’s not like she can read thoughts, though she caught on even though I didn’t say anything. Must be a woman’s intuition, right?”

While Alshade and I have a master-servant relationship, in another sense, I can’t really hold my own against her.

“Haha, it seems like she’s got you wrapped around her finger.”

“Well, we’re not married, so that description might not be accurate, right?”

“Don’t worry, it’s accurate.”

“Why is Al answering for me…”

To my question, Alshade immediately responded with a hint of playfulness.

Although there’s no way we could be married due to differences in social status and other factors, there’s an inexplicable sense of trust I have towards her, a feeling that she might somehow manage it.

“There are many ways to do things. Especially at times like this.”

I’ll refrain from asking ‘times like what?’ for now.

Orto is watching our exchange with an amused look in his eyes.

While it’s slightly embarrassing to be the subject of his gaze, considering he’s my savior, I’ll just accept it.

“But more importantly, Al, can you keep staying here indefinitely? While the administrative work is being handled by the others who stayed behind, don’t you have things like studying and training to do? And what about breakfast?”

As we converse, the morning sun had already risen, and Orto’s arrival was completely in the morning.

Wouldn’t it be time for breakfast by now?

“No worries, it’s fine. I’m sure Vivian has informed the kitchen that I’ll be having breakfast in your room.”

An unexpected name came out of Alshade’s mouth.

“Vivian? Is that—”

“Yeah, just as you’d expect. Vivian, say hello.”

“Yes, Alshade-sama… Rios-sama, I am Vivian Lowridge. Please allow me to serve you from now on.”

After being guided by Orto, the chestnut-haired maid who had been standing in the corner of the room steps forward, bows, and introduces herself.

“Ah, nice to me… “

“Yeah, you don’t need honorifics when speaking to a maid.”

Turning to Vivian, I try to use honorifics, but Alshade shoots me a meaningful look, so I refrain.

“Rios is my knight, so he’s quite important in terms of status. If he had a lower rank, he’d have to use honorifics even when talking to older people. And, while it’s okay with Orto because he’s my mentor, you can’t use honorifics with her.”

“Making me use casual language with Orto-san was a training exercise? You weren’t half-teasing, were you?”

“Don’t make it sound like I was only messing around, that’s quite off-putting.”

I had thought that it was all in good fun, but it seemed like there was a valid reason behind it.

If only she had clearly explained her reasoning, I wouldn’t have been so reluctant…

“Oh, by the way, she’s been taking care of things for you while you were asleep.”

“…!”

“Indeed, what Alshade-sama has mentioned is true.”

Surprised, I turned to Vivian, who calmly confirmed Alshade’s statement.

“(Indeed, even though I know that physiological functions continue even when asleep, I completely forgot about it and wasn’t mentally prepared… Huh? Taking care of things? Just that? My body doesn’t feel sticky or anything…)”

“Uhm, about that… is it possible you used magic for that? Or did Vivian wipe me down?”

“I used magic for your hair, but I wiped your skin myself. I actually wanted to take care of everything, including the ‘personal’ aspects, but Orto stopped me.”

I can feel my cheeks twitch. Wiping my skin implies that she saw me naked.

Given Alshade’s proactive nature, it wouldn’t be surprising if she took advantage of the situation to see everything, considering he’s my master in this world.

I’m not sure  whether I should thank Orto for protecting that last bit of my modesty or blame him for not stopping them.

…I do have a sense of embarrassment, after all.
