Episode 50
Chapter 50
“Ah, you’re here. You’re late.”
“Huh?”
When I realized it, I wasn’t in the Chamber of the Divine Stone anymore. I was in a modern-looking room with a familiar but needlessly handsome boy standing in front of me, furrowing his brows.
I decided to ask the displeased deity of games, who was clearly the cause of this situation.
“Mi… Milo-sama, what’s going on? I don’t remember fainting or dying…”
“I just pulled your consciousness over here. Instead of worrying about such trivial things, you’re way too slow in confirming your divine protection. I’ve been waiting patiently to see your reaction, but it took you over a week to check. Are you taking me for granted?”
“(This is so unreasonable!)”
I sighed deeply and Milo glared at me.
While I thought about how insignificant this was, I felt a chilling sensation at a level I had never experienced before, exposed to the god’s anger. My throat went dry, and cold sweat wouldn’t stop.
It was not a matter of differences in race but a fundamental gap in existence that I had become aware of.
I had to be careful not to let my tongue slip and say something strange while explaining myself.
“I wasn’t sure if there was a blessing, and during the week, I was prioritizing getting used to the changed environment. It took me three days after realizing there was a blessing just to learn basic etiquette. I’m terribly sorry.”
“Well, I guess I’ll forgive you. It would be a shame to break the toy I’ve prepared for you so painstakingly, and I was entertained by watching your life.Personally, I think it would be interesting if you got involved with Vivian. I’ve been advised by Zeus to provide services in that direction, so feel free to make the most of it.”
“It’s impossible! If I do that, it will jeopardize your goals, Milo-sama!”
Just when I thought the anger had subsided, this god said something like that.
If I did something like that, what would Alshade do to me…? No matter how I struggle, there is no doubt that a terrible outcome would await me.
And Zeus’s advice at this timing was hard to appreciate.
“Geez, how boring.”
“Um, so can we discuss the matter of blessing now?”
“Yeah, but before that, I have a complaint, so listen up.”
“…Yes.”
I wanted to ask about that annoyingly named blessing as soon as possible, but I obediently nodded my head, knowing I couldn’t resist.
Milo sat down on the sofa and pointed to the floor in front of it. I suppose he wanted me to sit there.
After confirming that I had sat in the designated spot, Milo opened his mouth, looking displeased.
“The other day, a god from Takamagahara… what you would call the Shinto gods, came to my place.”
“The Shinto gods…?”
“Yes, and when I listened to what they had to say, it turns out they used to be the guardian deity of the region where you lived. They found out that I killed you and protested vehemently, saying I had ruined their reputation…Thanks to that, my gaming time has been significantly reduced. Isn’t it unnecessary for them to get so angry over just one human? They’re so stingy!”
“I see…”
I decided to nod and offer some words of agreement to Milo, who was throwing a tantrum, remembering the situation at the time.
Inwardly, I couldn’t help but think, “Isn’t this karma?”, am I the only one who feels that it’s a bit wrong for me, the victim, to be hearing his complaints?
“(Huh? Is this possibly why he was in a bad mood from the beginning?… This is clearly venting.)”
Considering Milo’s personality, my guess probably wasn’t far off. It was quite an annoying story.
“Alright, I feel better now. So, let me explain the Blessing ‘Child of the Divine Beast’ (Dice)!”
Milo, who now had a genuinely refreshed expression, started speaking with excitement.
I couldn’t help but feel anxious when this deity of games seemed so eager to explain.
With a gloomy feeling, I listened to Milo’s words.
“First of all, do you understand what a ‘Child of the Divine Beast’ is, if I say it’s a half-bloodline Blessing?”
“Half-bloodline!?”
Right from the start, a bombshell statement was dropped, and I was shocked.
A half-bloodline Blessing was something that, when fully unleashed, had effects that were generally higher up in the hierarchy of Blessings. There was no way to obtain it through one’s own efforts; it had to be innate.
While it had many powerful effects, it came with a common condition to unlock its true potential.
That condition was to challenge a specific labyrinth alone and defeat its boss there.
Depending on the opponent, it could become a difficulty level that was nearly impossible to clear.
Furthermore, half-bloodline Blessings were forcibly included in the formation and couldn’t be removed, effectively reducing the number of available slots. So, to be honest, it was a Blessing you didn’t want.
“You probably know, but Asterios is the name of the Minotaur, a labyrinth monster. In games and such, he appears as a mediocre boss, but this Minotaur here is no pushover. Because he’s receiving sacrifices as a Child of the Divine Beast, it’s only natural that he possesses divinity.”
“I know… He appeared as a boss in the labyrinth, after all.”
As far as I know, the Minotaur didn’t use magic, but it had extremely high attack power, defense, and stamina. It was a genuinely strong boss.
However, I remember that the blessing it offered was more suited for exploration than combat.
…This might genuinely be a bad draw.
“No, that’s not it. The Minotaur in the game didn’t have a half-bloodline Blessing, you see. It’s inevitable that the Blessing you acquired is weak; there’s no helping it.”
“Oh, I see. There’s also a setting that says when a half-bloodline blessing holder is defeated by the corresponding monster, that monster gets stronger… Am I going to be targeted by the cultists?”
The reason why monsters get stronger… is because the half-bloodline blessings take one aspect of the corresponding monster and turn it into a blessing. When the holder of that blessing is defeated, the missing aspect is replenished.
And the Cultists are essentially the evil or demon god version of the Comprehensive Church.
They have various factions, but unfortunately, they tend to cooperate more effectively than the Comprehensive Church.
They’re the organization that tormented the past protagonists and their companions in the Wildia Chronicles series.
“Hmm? Won’t you be targeted if they find out?”
Even though it’s a dangerous organization if they set their sights on you, Milo said it nonchalantly.
Despite being the root cause, his attitude suggests that it’s someone else’s problem.
“Even if you make such a dissatisfied face, it doesn’t concern me. Anyway, let me continue with the explanation, so listen carefully.”
“Please do.”
“Alright, the effects are: Improved Physical Abilities (Minor), Physical Growth (Minor), Lightning Attribute Enhancement (Slight) and Fate Disruption, four of them.”
…I’m torn between whether to be relieved that the effects are better than I expected or to lament the fact that I’ll have to face formidable opponents.
Causality disruption is probably an additional effect due to the (Dice) blessing.
“What does ‘Fate Disruption’ mean?”
“I’ve mentioned it before, but think of it as something that prevents fate from intervening. As a bonus, it can also nullify things like guaranteed hits or guaranteed kills, but that applies to both you and your opponents.”
“Huh?”
I understand that both guaranteed hits and guaranteed kills are caused by fate, so it makes sense that it prevents them. But what does it mean that I can’t use them either?
Well, I actually know why.
However, blessings or weapons with the effects of guaranteed hits and guaranteed kills are so powerful that I’d like to have at least one of them. It’s emotionally hard to accept that I can’t use them.
The difference between having them as an option from the start and not having them is like night and day. Does this god in front of me understand that?
“Rude, aren’t you? It’s your job to overcome that with effort, isn’t it? It’s not like you automatically win if you activate guaranteed hits or kills. It’s useless if they’re blocked by shields or don’t hit, so you can manage without them.”
“…I think it’s unfair to force me into a handicap play.”
“It’s an unintended side effect to prevent fate’s interference, so it can’t be helped. Besides, it’s more fun that way.”
Milo casually stated his true feelings without remorse, causing my cheeks to twitch.
“I went out of my way to make a deal with Hera from Olympus and got permission to attach this blessing, ‘Child of the Divine Beast,’ to you. Well, it was nerfed a bit because I incorporated my die into it, but it’s just a minor difference.”
“…By the way, what was the original performance like?”
“Huh? It was something like Improved Physical Abilities (Major), Physical Growth (Intermediate), and Lightning Attribute Enhancement (Intermediate).”
“That’s not a minor difference.”
If it was that strong, I could have managed without defeating the Minotaur. Couldn’t they have at least lowered each of them by one level?
At that moment, I felt like falling to my knees.
“Alright, I’ve enjoyed your reaction enough. I summoned you for that purpose and have already explained everything, so you can go back now. Bye-bye!”
“Wait a…!”
I was sent off by Milo’s genuinely delighted smile, and my consciousness faded.
