Reborn as an Overpowered Character in the Early Stages of the Game~ Realizing I’m Transferred to a Game World Only After Getting Involved in Prequel Events~

Episode 9:Revelations and Fortunes

Chapter 9

“Is there anywhere else it hurts?”

“No, thank you, Miss.”

There was no more pain, and there were no swollen areas when I touched my head with my hand.

The tumor must have been a hematoma, as there was swelling from the accumulation of blood under the skin. But where did that blood go?

Well, recovery magic is more like a miracle of the gods than magic, so I’ll just accept that it’s more mysterious than magic.

“So, what’s with the color of my eyes? The person who captured me was also surprised, but is there something special about it?”

“Each person has a certain tendency of magical power they possess. It’s called magical aptitude, and it simply refers to what type of magic one is good at. And that magical aptitude is most easily seen in the color of one’s eyes.”

“I see. So what’s my magical aptitude?”

Come to think of it, there was such a setting. I nodded in my mind several times. But if that’s the case, what I’m curious about, is my magical aptitude.

My eyes are golden, and they used to tickle my chuunibyo heart. The most common association with this color would be light magic.

However, as far as I remember, characters who were good at light magic did not have golden eyes.

So, what is the magical aptitude of a character with golden eyes?

“…It’s the rare attribute of thunder.”

“(That’s right, thunder. The first character known for being skilled in thunder attribute magic is definitely the mercenary Rios…!)”

Why didn’t I notice it until now? It’s not uncommon to be reincarnated into a character from a RPG game.

The appearance of the mercenary Rios in the original work had black hair and golden eyes, and his facial features were well-formed with a few scars here and there. If I were to grow up, I would probably end up looking like that, right?

According to the original setting, his magical aptitude is thunder attribute, and his weapon is a spear. He grew up as an orphan in some slum, and then became a mercenary, traveling through numerous battlefields, or so it was.

If everything matches up, there’s no doubt that I am Rios, the character from Wildia Chronicles.

“(So I’m Rios… It’s a bit exciting because of the high potential.)”

Mercenary Rios is what they call the so-called supporting character who appears in the early stages. He has enough strength to stand up against the regulars monsters, even in the late stages of the boss battle, making him a reliable strong character in the early stages.

That’s just a good character for reincarnation , but once the early stages are over, Rios suddenly disappears.

Many players speculated that since the early stages were over, the supporting character just disappeared and moved to another country, but among some players, there were rumors of something terrible happening to him.

According to the rumors, he might have died.

Although it was not explicitly stated in the later stages, some information seemed to suggest that, and the credibility of those rumors increased.

In other words, there is a high possibility that I will die at some point, although I don’t know how many years from now.

“(I have to safely resolve this incident and somehow get in good books of the Baltzfeld family! For the sake of my own safety!)”

Originally, after this was over, I had been thinking about whether I could work for the Baltzfeld family as an apprentice servant or something.

It was my dream or goal to become a traveling merchant, as I could earn money more safely.  So it would be natural for me as a person to choose that option.

There were also options such as becoming an adventurer or a mercenary, but I didn’t want to pursue a profession where there was a risk to my life without knowing if I could find a decent  mentor.

But if I am reincarnated as the mercenary Rios, that’s a different story. If I can be employed as a soldier, to protect myself, I can aim for promotion in terms of potential, and I can also get a proper mentor.

If I could reach the level of a strong boss character on my own, it wouldn’t just be a dream to challenge the endgame with a proper mentor.

“…Hey, were you listening to what I was saying?”

“Ah, sorry, I wasn’t listening.”

“Yeah, I thought so. You’ve been making various expressions on your own for a while now.”

When I noticed, Alshade was peering into my face. Surprised, I took a step back.

It was quite embarrassing to be told that she could see what I was thinking from my expression.

“Shall I tell you again?”

“Yes, please.”

We had a conversation like a game tutorial, and this time I focused on Alshade’s words so as not to miss anything.

“Thunder attribute is a highly valued attribute among rare attributes. Do you know why?”

“No, I don’t know.”

“Thunder attribute magic is difficult to defend against without using magical means, and many thunder magic spells have high destructive power. In simple terms, it’s good for use in warfare. So when someone with an aptitude for thunder attribute is found, there are many nobles who try to recruit them.”

I had been growing my hair because my mother had told me not to show my eyes to anyone I couldn’t trust, but I guess there was a reason for that.

“It was fortunate that Rios had bangs. Otherwise, you might have been abducted and sold to some noble.”

“That’s really fortunate… I don’t want to be used up on the battlefield.”

“Hahaha, unless you’re a battle maniac junkie, anyone would feel that way.”

I think my mother’s teachings had protected me until now, although my mistake was exposed to Lamdo.

“Did those guys notice the color of Rios’ eyes?”

“Yeah, the guy called Lamdo got a good look at them.”

“Then, if we can successfully resolve this matter, would you like to serve us? I do think you’ll become a soldier, but I guarantee that you won’t be used up on the battlefield.”

“Really? Thank you, I’m grateful! Please take care of me from now on.”

“Likewise, I look forward to working with you. As a military officer, it’s a pleasure to have a promising young warrior like you as a retainer.”

I did a mental fist pump as I achieved my goal unexpectedly.

The burden on my shoulders was lifted, but that didn’t mean I could just walk leisurely to the exit of the secret passage.

There are enemies, well-placed  monsters, that appear in this secret passage in the game. I think it’ll be fine with Alshade around, but depending on the number of opponents, I might need to fight as well.

“…Rios, do you hear any sounds? And do you smell something…”

“I can hear them too. And I do smell something… It definitely stinks.”

With a loud collision, a high-pitched sound like two hard objects colliding came from the depths of the passage, along with the unpleasant smell of decay that I was familiar with from the middle layer of the slums.

The enemies that appear in this passage are the weakest among the undead, the classic monsters, Skeletons and Zombies.

You might think it’s fine if they’re the weakest, but for ordinary people like me without any weapons, Skeleton’s are troublesome, and Zombies are the worst enemy.

Skeletons have weak strength and light bodies, so if you’re careful with their bites and sharp bones, you can wrestle them and incapacitate them by ripping off their bones and throwing them away, even being an ordinary person.

Indeed, they are considered the weakest monsters in the game.

On the other hand, Zombies are slow but strong, and once it comes to grappling, you’re likely to lose. When it comes to punching or kicking, it’s not very effective. Moreover, if you get too close, they will embrace and push you down, then kill you.

In addition, the body fluid of zombies is weak but poisonous, and if you touch it directly, the area you touched will become numb and your movements will be hindered.

In other words, when fighting unarmed, there is no chance of winning against these opponents for ordinary people.

“…There’s only one Skeleton. Let’s quickly defeat it.”

A Skeleton appeared from the depths of the passage, but it was quickly taken down by Alshade, who approached swiftly. It couldn’t react to her movements, and when it fell after being tripped, she crushed its skull with her heel, silencing it. [T/L : ufff….that’s brutal]

As she returned as if nothing had happened, I was dumbfounded.

“If there’s a Skeleton, there must be a Zombie too. Is there anything that can be used as a weapon? I don’t want to fight a Zombie barehanded if I can’t avoid it. If there’s nothing, I guess I’ll have to use the bones of that Skeleton as a last resort.”

“Wait a moment. I’ll make something that can be used as a weapon now. Using human bones is just too bad.”

Probably, in the original work, Alshade reluctantly used the bones of the Skeleton as a weapon, but I didn’t want her to use them, so I hurriedly took out the wallet that I had managed to hold onto from my pocket.
