Reborn as Petunia Evans with a System

Chapter 20: Chapter 19

Petunia woke up early, her excitement bubbling beneath the surface. Her roommates, Pandora and Emmeline Vance, were still asleep, their soft breathing a reminder of the peaceful morning. She glanced around the dormitory, noting the soft blue and silver hues that decorated the room. The first rays of sunlight streamed through the window, casting a serene glow.

As she dressed, she ran her fingers over her pristine new robes. Hogwarts was everything she had dreamed it would be, and today marked the true beginning of her magical education.

Soon, Pandora stirred, sitting up with a dreamy look on her face. "Good morning, Petunia. Did the stars sing to you in your dreams too?"

Petunia blinked, smiling softly at Pandora's peculiar way of speaking. "Not quite, but I'm sure they were humming something nice."

Emmeline stretched, yawning before swinging her legs over the bed. "You're up early. Excited for Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall?"

"Of course," Petunia replied as she adjusted her tie. "It's our first real class. I want to be ready."

The three girls exchanged pleasantries as they dressed and made their way down to the common room. Emmeline asked if Petunia wanted to join them for breakfast in the Great Hall, but she shook her head. "I'll wait for my friend. You two go ahead."

Not long after, Severus came down the stairs with his roommates, Andrew Greystone and Felix Baddock, trailing behind. Severus's once unkempt hair was neatly combed, and his robes were immaculate. He looked different than he had in Spinner's End—more confident, more composed.

"Good morning," Petunia greeted brightly, her eyes lighting up when she saw him.

Severus gave her a small smile, but it was Andrew and Felix who surprised her. Both boys turned pink and stammered a shy, "Hi."

Severus raised an eyebrow at his roommates before turning back to Petunia. "Shall we head to breakfast? It's better to eat before class starts."

As they walked to the Great Hall, Petunia talked animatedly about Hogwarts—the moving staircases, the enchanted paintings, and how magical everything felt. Severus listened quietly, his small smile unwavering as he took in her excitement.

"I'm really glad you're in Ravenclaw," Petunia said as they walked. "It's… different from what I remember in the books, but in the best way."

Severus tilted his head. "Books? What books?"

"Oh, nothing important," Petunia replied quickly, brushing it off. She wasn't ready to dive into the whole

As they reached the Great Hall, Petunia suddenly stopped, a strange ringing sound filling her ears. A voice echoed in her mind:

System Notification: Congratulations, for you first day of being a Hogwarts students

Reward: You have unlocked Transfiguration Mastery (Advance)

For a moment, she stood frozen, as if something was downloading directly into her brain. New knowledge filled her mind—spells, techniques, and methods for Transfiguration she hadn't known before.

"Petunia?" Severus asked, looking concerned. "Are you all right?"

She snapped back to reality, quickly fabricating an excuse. "I just… thought I forgot something in the dorm.."

Severus studied her for a moment before nodding, and they continued into the Great Hall.

At the Ravenclaw table, Petunia sat with Pandora and Emmeline, introducing Severus and his roommates to her new friends. Emmeline was bubbly and curious, while Pandora remained as whimsical as ever.

"Are you a Veela?" Pandora asked Severus suddenly.

He blinked. "What? No."

"Oh," Pandora said, tilting her head. "Your hair is so shiny, I thought perhaps you had magical lineage."

Andrew and Felix chuckled, and Petunia rolled her eyes affectionately at Pandora's odd charm.

As they ate, Emmeline asked about their backgrounds. Petunia shared that she was a Muggle-born and learned about the magical world through Severus. She mentioned her twin sister, Lily, who was sorted into Gryffindor.

"She's probably still asleep," Petunia added. "She's not a morning person."

After breakfast, the Ravenclaws and Gryffindors gathered in the Transfiguration classroom. Petunia spotted Lily sitting at the front and rushed over to hug her.

"I missed you!" Petunia said.

Lily laughed. "We've been apart for one day, Tuney!"

The sisters chatted briefly, with Lily describing her Gryffindor roommates and their common room. Petunia smiled, filing away the future fates of Alice and Marlene in the back of her mind.

Her thoughts drifted to the challenges ahead—Horcruxes, Voldemort, and the tragedies she was determined to prevent. She was snapped out of her reverie when Professor McGonagall entered, transforming from a cat into her human form.

The class gasped.

"Transfiguration is some of the most complex and dangerous magic you will learn at Hogwarts," McGonagall began. "Anyone messing around in my class will leave and not come back. You have been warned."

The first task was to transfigure a matchstick into a needle. While many struggled, Petunia, Lily, and Severus completed the task quickly. Petunia even added a decorative swirl to her needle, earning her ten points for Ravenclaw.

After class, Petunia and Severus lingered to talk with Lily, and by the time they left, the hallways were nearly empty. As they walked to Potions, they were suddenly blocked by Sirius Black, James Potter, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew.

"Angel!" Sirius called, grinning mischievously. "Miss me already?"

Petunia frowned. "Sirius, move."

But Sirius leaned casually against the wall. "What's the rush? Potions can wait. Besides, I was hoping to hear more about your brilliant needlework."

James smirked. "Yeah, real impressive, Snivellus. Managed not to blow anything up."

Severus's fists clenched, his face darkening. Before he could retort, Petunia whipped out her wand. and cast a Bat-Bogey Hex

Sirius let out a yelp as his nose was suddenly swarmed by large, flapping bats. James tried to help, but Petunia grabbed Severus's arm, yelling, "Run!"

They bolted down the corridor, laughing uncontrollably. By the time they reached the Potions classroom, they were breathless but grinning.

"You're insane," Severus said, his laughter fading into a smile.

Petunia shrugged. "Someone had to put them in their place. Now, let's make some potions!"
