Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Left Eye and Right Eye
Agent Coulson quickly traced the source of the rumors to a dark-skinned taxi driver.
At first, the driver tried to resist the investigation, but soon he stammered out a confession.
Based on his description of Solomon, Coulson easily linked it to the molten pit on the highway near Salem and the frequent fires in the town of Colleen. Yes, it was clear: the criminal organization collecting Inhumans had resumed its activities!
And the Inhuman they had dispatched was the young man from Salem with heat powers. All the clues now pointed to Solomon Damonet!
Unfortunately, Agent Coulson didn't stay long in Colleen. He had to report this to his superiors, as something more urgent had come up.
Or rather, something more important to the U.S. government—the disappearance of the famous capitalist, Tony Stark.
Compared to the organization trafficking Inhuman youths, the disappearance of a capitalist was a bigger priority for the U.S., and S.H.I.E.L.D. had to shift its focus to Tony Stark.
Meanwhile, Solomon, once again narrowly missing Coulson, was holed up in a room at the Kamar-Taj headquarters playing video games.
He planned to rest for a few days before heading to Europe to continue his search for the Darkhold.
However, the Sorcerer Supreme had told him that she had an acquaintance in Europe who could help. This person was handling some of Kamar-Taj's responsibilities regarding extra-dimensional creatures in Europe.
But this individual was not well-known within Kamar-Taj because the Sorcerer Supreme had deliberately erased their whereabouts from the planetary defense system.
The reason she did this was due to the person's unique nature. He was a demon warlock who controlled demons and hunted angels to feed them.
If some of Kamar-Taj's more traditional sorcerers knew about this, they would likely call for his destruction.
But in the Sorcerer Supreme's view, both angels and demons were extra-dimensional beings, and no matter which of these invaders died, Kamar-Taj would come out ahead.
But aren't angels supposed to be messengers of God? Does Heaven still want to interfere with Earth?
Solomon couldn't help but wonder about his own origins. According to the Sorcerer Supreme, the celestial phenomenon at his birth was identical to the arrival of a divine child. Could his appearance here also be Heaven's doing?
Faced with Solomon's doubts, the Sorcerer Supreme patiently explained.
"Angels are not just God's messengers, Solomon. They are simply beings from the Positive Energy Plane. They are not exclusively in service to any one deity.
After they are born, they seek out powerful beings from the Positive Energy Plane to serve—what you call gods—including God himself.
The angels described in the Bible are just beings from the Positive Energy Plane who serve God. But Heaven and I have an agreement: as long as I exist, Heaven cannot interfere with Earth.
As for the angels who invade Earth... they serve a different god. The reason God's angels don't invade Earth, while this other god's angels do, is quite simple.
That god has fallen into slumber, and there's no one who can sign an agreement with me on behalf of that god.
This slumbering god is called Jubileus, a name unpronounceable by human tongues, so we refer to it this way.
It was born from the death of a god called Aesir, the God of Chaos.
When Aesir, the God of Chaos, shattered shortly after the birth of humanity, part of his body flew into the Positive Energy Plane, becoming Jubileus and many angels.
Another part of his body fell into the Abyss, creating a demon lord and spawning countless demons.
As a result, the angels who serve Jubileus constantly try to reclaim that other part of Aesir's power to awaken the sleeping Jubileus. They believe that by reclaiming this power, Jubileus will awaken and create a new world—though, of course, that's just their delusional boasting. Fanatics always think that way.
You can listen, but the Eternal Great God would never allow such a thing.
As for why they invade Earth instead of going straight to the Abyss to seize the power, it's because the most important parts of Aesir's power fell into the human realm.
One part of this power, called the 'Left Eye,' ended up with a demon warlock, who gained the ability to control demons and is the target of those angels. The other part, called the 'Right Eye,' became the power of Jubileus."
According to the Ancient One, those who possess the "Left Eye" are called Shadow Witches, while those who have the "Right Eye" are known as Lumen Sages.
Before the Sorcerer Supreme appeared, these two groups referred to themselves as Observers of History, maintaining balance and watching the world.
But the balance was shattered five hundred years ago when the Left Eye's witches allied with demons to hunt angels, and the Right Eye's sages allied with angels to hunt demons. They waged an endless war against each other.
Their final battle was so fierce it lasted nearly a century, eventually ending with the disappearance of the witch who possessed the Left Eye.
Yet, despite her five-hundred-year absence, when the witch reappeared, she remained steadfast in her mission, as did the sages.
Even if the angels or demons sneaking into Earth weren't created by Aesir, they still fell within their hunting grounds, which is why the Sorcerer Supreme allowed them to continue.
According to her description, the organization that serves Jubileus is called the Lumen Order, headquartered in the city of Vigrid on the European border.
That city is controlled by a conglomerate called Izavel, whose president, Balder, is the Lumen Sage who possesses the power of the Right Eye.
The Sorcerer Supreme merely has to maintain their balance, prevent Jubileus from awakening, keep the demon lord from being summoned to Earth, or stop Aesir from reviving, and the witch and the sage will continue their eternal conflict, helping Kamar-Taj rid Earth of invading demons and angels.
Keeping them around greatly reduces Kamar-Taj's workload.
But now, the power of the Lumen Sage is growing stronger. To maintain balance and weaken the opposing side, the Sorcerer Supreme has deliberately supported the witch who holds the Left Eye, providing her with intelligence on the whereabouts of angels.
But what if the situation gets out of control? Solomon asked curiously.
The Sorcerer Supreme pointed to the Eye of Agamotto on the table—"If it doesn't work the first time, just try again. Eventually, something will succeed."
As for where the God of Chaos Aesir came from, neither the Sorcerer Supreme nor Vishanti had the answer.
In ancient times, Earth was overrun by all sorts of demons, and the few surviving records are vague at best. The Lumen Order's books are even less reliable, filled with irrational praise and devotion.
Solomon's doubts about himself didn't surprise the Sorcerer Supreme.
"You're human, Solomon. Without a doubt, you are human!" The Sorcerer Supreme declared firmly. "No matter where you came from, that's the truth!
As for the stigmata, I suspect it's connected to the fabled Angel Raziel's Book, which is said to contain 1,500 arcane pieces of knowledge. The other type of magic you've been learning likely originates from this."
She was, of course, referring not to the translated version of the Book of Enoch found in Kamar-Taj's library, but the original arcane manuscript known as Raziel's Book of Angels.
As for the Kabbalistic Tree of Life that Solomon dreamed of while unconscious, it could very well be part of Raziel's Book of Angels, but its secrets were for Solomon to explore on his own.
After resting for a few days, Solomon was ready to head to Europe to find the witch, Bayonetta.
