Chapter 106: Chapter 106
"Huh? Who are you talking about?"
"He calls himself Uchiha Obito."
Toki opened his mouth slightly, startled.
"The sun must have risen in the west. Did he change his mind and come back to die?"
He had already exposed Obito's identity to Nagato, Konan, and the others. Why was he coming back now?
Did Black Zetsu not inform him? That didn't make sense.
Toki waved his hand.
"Let him come in."
Soon, Obito, missing his left eye, appeared before Toki.
"You..."
Toki frowned, unsure how to respond.
"Are you here to die?"
Obito's face darkened, but he quickly replaced it with a sorrowful expression. Tears welled up in his eye as he pleaded:
"Clan leader! You must save me! I was being controlled by Uchiha Madara!"
Nara Shikaku and Sarutobi Asuma's eyes widened in shock.
"Uchiha Madara?!"
Shi Yu's eyelid twitched twice.
"Good grief, what sort of mess is this?"
Obito, with great passion, began his tale:
"I was nearly killed on the battlefield, buried alive by Iwagakure's ambush. But an old man calling himself Uchiha Madara saved me, rebuilding half my crushed body with strange materials. Then he cast a powerful spell on me to control my consciousness, forcing me to carry out his will!"
"Releasing the Nine-Tails and controlling the Mizukage—none of it was my doing! I was coerced into everything!"
"Only recently, when Madara's real body died of old age, was I able to break free from his control. But even now, a spiritual clone of his is chasing me. Clan leader, please save me!"
Nara Shikaku and Sarutobi Asuma took a sharp intake of breath.
"You... released the Nine-Tails?!"
Obito quickly shook his head in denial.
"No, no! That was Madara Uchiha! Minato-sensei and his wife were like family to me—how could I ever harm them?"
Internally, Obito cursed his bad luck but maintained his façade.
"I swear it's true! If you don't believe me, you can examine the curse mark on my heart. That should prove everything!"
Toki blinked, feeling an impending headache.
Damn it, this guy's really pulling out all the stops with his acting.
Had Toki not known the real story, he might actually have believed this nonsense. And, of course, his system wasn't registering Obito as an ally, which meant he was undoubtedly here as a mole.
Shikaku and Asuma turned to Toki for a response.
Obito, on edge, was ready to activate his Kamui and flee if things turned hostile.
Toki rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
"Alright. If that's the case, let's call Hyuga Hiashi and Yamanaka Inoichi. They'll check your story. Oh, and bring Kakashi too—he'll be able to confirm your identity."
Obito breathed a sigh of relief.
With his Mangekyō Sharingan and White Zetsu-enhanced body, Inoichi's mind-reading techniques would be no problem. And as for the curse mark? It was real, so it would support his fabricated story.
Soon enough, Hyuga Hiashi and Yamanaka Inoichi arrived at the Hokage's office.
Hiashi activated his Byakugan, peering at Obito.
"Lord Toki, there is indeed a curse mark embedded in his heart. Judging by its design, it appears to prevent him from committing suicide or disobeying orders."
Inoichi withdrew his hand from Obito's head and shook his head.
"He's not lying; his memories align with what he's said."
Internally, Obito smirked.
Of course, you fools. You can only see what I allow you to see. Your so-called techniques are nothing in the face of Uchiha prowess.
Obito looked to Toki with a hopeful expression.
"Clan leader, I told you the truth."
Toki raised his eyebrows, his lips curling into a faint smile. Then, with a sudden burst of theatrical shock, he exclaimed:
"So it's true! You really were a victim!"
Tears welled up in Obito's eye as he played along.
"I've always dreamed of becoming Hokage, but who knew I'd end up like this? Clan leader, I'm unworthy of being an Uchiha. Please punish me! Execute me to atone for what happened to Minato-sensei and Kushina-sama!"
Toki clapped his hands.
"Alright! I'll grant your wish!"
"Cough, cough, cough!" Obito's face paled as he scrambled to explain.
"W-Wait a minute! What I meant was, even though I want to atone, I've unlocked the Mangekyō Sharingan! My eyes can control tailed beasts—I can still contribute to the clan!"
Toki snapped his fingers, and several Uchiha clan members appeared. Each of them activated their Mangekyō Sharingan.
"In fact, our clan has quite a few Mangekyō users now…"
Obito's face darkened.
What the hell?! Since when did the Uchiha clan have so many Mangekyō Sharingan users?
Before Obito could retreat, Toki suddenly said with a sly grin:
"But don't worry. Konoha's no longer a ninja village. I'm just a humble craftsman making ninja tools. Your sins don't concern me."
Obito staggered, forcing himself to remain calm.
"Hahaha… Thank you, patriarch."
Just then, the office doors burst open.
Kakashi stormed in, his face filled with shock and disbelief.
"Obito?!"
A flash of resentment crossed Obito's face before he replaced it with a cheerful smile.
"Kakashi! I'm alive!"
Kakashi froze for a moment before tears began to stream down his face.
"Obito… it's good you're alive."
Obito's expression darkened slightly as he added sinisterly:
"Kakashi… where's Rin? I want to see her now."
Kakashi's body stiffened as he froze in place.
