Reincarnated in a Light Novel

Chapter 8: Something isn't right...

Eclair finished the rest of the demons efficiently. He didn't waste any movement, nor did Omi. Once he was done, there were only corpses of demons on the ground.

He didn't pile the corpses up; that was stupid. Even if the demons were dead, if all of them had the same resentment or reason for their existence, then there's a chance they would revive in a bigger form.

He didn't want to know if it would increase the demon's ranking. After separating the dog corpses, he returned to the village, back to the Elderly woman's house. Knocking at the door, he revealed his presence.

"I've killed the demons from the forest, though I'll stay for a while to make sure there aren't any remaining."

Eclair said with a smile on his face, this might make him look like a schemer but hey, Eclair learned the world through the eyes of a Novel reader.

This world isn't that simple. Why has Eclair hadn't told the future in front of Solas? Simple, people from the higher-ups will just take the easy way and torture the information out of him.

Involving Solas would've been great but knowing how stupid the higher-ups could get, he doubted that he would've been hailed as a hero and be branded as a criminal instead.

Anyways, Eclair couldn't help but feel awkward when the young man and elderly lady looked at him with wide eyes.

"A-already?"

"Of course!" Eclair answered. "I need some bodies to help me recover the bodies of the demons."

'Or do you doubt my abilities?' Eclair was about to intimidate them with those words but he held back his tongue.

The demons should be dealt with first. After all, he didn't want to escalate the demon's classification and create some trouble.

"Alright, I'll have the capable help you, Iro go help him." The elderly woman nudged the young man.

"Yes, Grandma." The young man agreed.

Iro stood up and walked past Eclair, Eclair decided to stay and wait for Iro to gather the necessary people. On the other hand, he grabbed something from his pocket and started writing down.

It was an Omi item, something he had carried for a while given by Solas.

'Use this when reporting something or in case of emergencies.'

He remembered his words, of course, right now he was using it as a way to report, to retrieve demon corpses. Eclair only specified the rank of the demon nothing else.

After finishing his report, he imbued the item with Omi and it turned into a dove, which flew away swiftly. Eclair could feel someone's gaze on him but he did not react.

It didn't come from the old lady.

After a while, Iro came back with a few women and a few teenagers. Eclair guessed that they were speaking truthfully when the able fended off the lesser class demons.

"Thank you for defeating the demons." a woman said so, she was about to cry.

"Ah, it's no big deal, it's work us Sorcerers are meant to do."

Eclair didn't want to make it sound easy work if he did, it would rile up something from the villagers he was sure of it.

"Let's go then"

Eclair said as he walked in front, he went back to the forest along with a ragtag group of villagers, despite having what basically is the 80's type of internet and technology, the people here didn't seem no different to a medieval peasant.

It was hard to judge what kind of conditions they were living but Eclair at least had some idea. Once they reached the location of what Eclair was sure where he left the corpses of the demons, they saw nothing.

"Young Sorcerer, didn't you say that you already dealt with the demons?" Iro asked, not even hiding his irritation.

"Of course, I did. Look." Eclair pointed at the splotches of blood.

Whilst the corpses of the dogs are gone, the evidence of struggle is still there. Eclair glanced at Iro for a second before turning back.

"Let's go back, all of you. I don't want a middle-class demon killing all of you here." Eclair ushered all the villagers back to the village.

He felt some stares from the forest, though Eclair did not respond, he didn't want to let them know he was aware he was being watched. Despite the rising suspicions of the villagers Eclair decided to prioritize their safety and his.

If the Demon were to be revived again, Eclair was sure that it would be a middle-class demon. After all, the resentment was strong enough to create multiple lesser-class demons. That's not something he could handle, he wasn't sure.

After reaching the village, Eclair decided to erect a barrier around the village, after inscribing something in a wood he placed it in the middle of the village and added his Omi, a translucent barrier materialised around the village.

Eclair didn't add much Omi in the Barrier, since nobody was here to maintain it, he was sure that the barrier would only last a day at most, enough time for him to uncover secrets that the village was hiding.

He went to the Elderly lady's house, knocking on the door to announce his presence. "Ma'am. Are you here?"

Eclair announced himself, though once again, his eyes were pulled to the Large clay pot in the corner of the room, its cover slightly pushed to the side creating a small opening to glimpse inside the pot.

"Yes, young Sorcerer?"

However, his attention was pulled away. He looked at the Elderly lady and decided to reveal his intentions.

"I'll be setting up camp outside, see if I can see where the demons went, call on me when you need something."

"Alright, I'll make sure the others are aware."

The Elderly lady nodded and Eclair didn't linger any further, the Elderly lady sighed as he went to the pot and carefully covered it up.

Eclair set up camp at the edge of the village he may be planning to rest here but he wasn't going to sleep, he was eager to end the mission already.
