Chapter 22: Offender
"I haven't even met them, and they are getting on my bad side," Jung said, annoyed.
[It's the other way around; one of them is furious at you,] The system was kind enough to tell him.
"I don't give a single shit about their feelings. If he is so mad at me, tell him to come and kiss my ass," he snorted with no fear. Some hidden god would never get close enough to touch him.
Or so he thought.
["You made a huge mistake!" Those are his words,] explained the system with rough voice acting.
Jung chuckled and found the barrier to leave the dungeon. Her words registered in his mind, even if they were bad news; as long as the god stayed hidden, he should be safe.
But his reckless behaviour and immature actions were enough for the system to nag him.
[Why would you offend him? Even I don't know who he is. What if he is connected to Archeons? What if he sends his army?] Concern dictated her words, and Jung didn't miss that.
"I don't want to live in constraints. If I am not free, how can I free Elara?" His words were bold, yet confidence radiated from them. "And if I am going to help Nero, at least one god will stand against me. I'm not scared of facing another. As for the Archeons, I doubt these lofty beings will bother with me."
'She holds more secrets than even the Archeons themselves,' he pondered, his eyes peeking at Nero, who wanted to kill him more than a thousand times.
Coughing, he caressed the animal and touched the barrier. One more ray of light could be seen, but the dungeon swiftly devoured it.
After that, the opening could be seen—a way for him to join the true world. As soon as he tapped his foot on the ground, he noticed an object flying in his direction.
It was an arrow, followed by magical spheres that could endanger his life. Of course, players were behind that. As soon as he cleared the dungeon, they got a system notification about his success.
Greed blinded some of them. Others were his past victims, looking for vengeance. And here it was, the perfect opportunity to kill this proud NPC.
Attacks were almost on his face. Nero jumped first; Jung quickly followed and ducked with unbelievable flexibility. "Nero, stay put! They are mine," he asked, wanting to test his progress.
His friendly pet was more than happy to watch the spectacle.
Jung was in a narrow space, and standing in the same spot would mean a death sentence. To save his dear life, he reduced the distance between him and players. Before the mutation skill, he was fast, but he could go beyond that limit.
The exoskeleton was his chosen part to mutate, causing tremendous pain. In turn, his connection from brain to limbs got two times stronger. He was quick, deadly, and angry. With his loyal axe in his hand, he flew to slaughter players.
Jung intercepted attacks, using his weapon for some and his sturdy body for others. It didn't even take him 10 seconds. As soon as he stepped into their range, chaos erupted. He was smiling this whole time.
Four warriors stood in front of him. The objective was to stall him until long-range players could finish him. However, Jung had other plans, and it meant slaughtering every single one of them—not only the ones who tried to kill him but also those who didn't dare to stop them.
Jung's axe and his skin tasted blood. The next target was one of those warriors slashing at him multiple times. Although he had terrible control, others helped him, covering his weakness.
But the axe was quicker and moved like a living organism. Blocking their attacks, Jung caught the first one by the collar and dropped him to the ground. Before his comrades could save him, Jung cut off his head with one clean motion.
It was time for wrath, and they would taste it, just like Jung savoured their dirty blood. The second one didn't have a fun time either. As he tried to use an opening before that psycho got back on his feet, he saw a movement and felt the kick in the balls, losing his life on the spot.
Jung didn't halt, and no one could force him to. Arriving before the next target, he had to block incoming mystical blasts and thrusts almost at the same time. This movement demanded completely new flexibility from his body.
Something he couldn't achieve without mutation. After performing the impossible, he attacked again. Catching the opponent's sword, he punched him in the face, freed his weapon, and swung his axe.
Jung's every move was to slay. Any action he took served his intent to punish and survive. So, he killed, again and again, massacring everyone he could reach.
His killing spree was rewarded with pills, but he didn't care. Only one thought danced in his mind, asking him to continue. Not going against his inner wishes, Jung reached other players.
It was an even bigger number, most of them fighting from long range or too scared to face him. There was another category: even more cowardly players who tried to flee. Jung may have been occupied, but the same couldn't be said about his cat.
"Nero, go wild," he shouted and gave a pass to his pet to act.
The tamed animal was more than happy to act. She chased after them, disappearing into the forest.
Jung was alone before players. He was mad at them, and the only redemption was brutal death. At least it was quick. He deflected all attacks and caused even more bloodshed.
The wizard tried to hit him with a spell. Jung sidestepped and hacked at her.
The rebel and everyman combined their hex. The first threw a dark dart imbued with persona energy, and the other had a baseball bat flying to take his life.
Jung killed both of them even before their efforts reached him.
By the time he was done butchering them, Nero was back with kills under her name.
Both of them looked at the battlefield; a larger number of players died, and their corpses filled the field. They should have pixelated, but the process was taking its sweet time.
[Here it is, my next surprise for you!] the system announced, anticipating his reaction.
Jung wanted to seek an explanation, but the answer appeared out of nowhere.
[Devour the bodies to upgrade your mutation skill.]
Before Jung voiced his dissatisfaction about how the system kept this secret, there was more to uncover, though it had nothing to do with him.
It was about Nero. The moment to break her curse had just begun.
