Chapter 1: A Beginning
Author's Prelude:
Hello! Welcome to this fanfiction of the lovely, cute, and pretty distressing game that is MiSide!
Now, before we get started, I'd like to make a few things clear.
Firstly, you might notice that the events of the first chapter pretty much align with the beginning of the game. That's intentional. I wanted to make this fanfiction readable by anyone – even those that never played the game. However, that wasn't the only reason. I did so also as a way to flesh out the MC.
Now, of course, this pretty much only applies to the first chapter. The following chapters will be quite different. A lot of events in the game will change, and there will be some interesting interactions between the MC and the many characters.
I always strive to provide the best experience while keeping the integrity of the original characters, so if you've played the game, you'll notice that none of the characters feel different to those in the game. It will feel authentic. That's apparently what I'm best at, so yeah.
Chapters will be long, and I intend to cover the entire game's contents and more for your (and my) pleasure. Certain parts will be longer and others shorter, depending on their relevance.
If you have any feedback, please provide it in the comments. Suggestions are welcome.
Now, without any further ado, let's get right into it!
------
Life. Something that I never understood properly, nor did I try to. The importance I gave to the word was negligible. I simply couldn't care less for its true meaning.
I was such a person. One that didn't consider life to be much. I only ever lived to get by. Sitting in front of my computer and working was how most of the hours in my days were spent.
However, I did have a social life. Though, that depends on what one would consider a proper social life. I had so-called internet friends. My conversations with them could hardly be called productive, but at least they provided me with solace in my dreary days.
One morning, however, everything changed.
I had just woken up and began stretching in my room. It was something I needed to do, given how long I stayed cooped up inside. Not to mention how long I sat in front of the computer.
Once I was done stretching, I looked around the somewhat messy room a bit, and noticed my phone, which was placed on top of my work desk. It was blinking – meaning that I had notifications.
It wasn't anything out of the norm. In fact, it would be unusual to wake up to no notifications.
Still, I approached the phone and took hold of it. Then, I unlocked it and checked out the notifications. Two of them were unimportant, so I simply swiped them away. The one left was an interesting one. It was a notification from one of my online friends.
Friend: Hey, check out this game I found!
It immediately got me curious. Thankfully, my job was quite flexible with time, so I could afford to try out the game.
With my decision made, I opened the messaging app and directly proceeded to download the installer, which my friend so conveniently sent instead of a link to an app store.
Surprisingly, the game downloaded pretty quickly, meaning its size was small.
That's good, I guess. It means it's most likely a simple game that I won't need to grind much.
Following that, I installed the game before directly launching it. What soon followed was a rather cute pink background with hearts all over and then an adorable anime girl appeared on the left side of the screen. Below the screen, a pink text box appeared.
The anime girl had purplish-blue eyes and long hair styled in low pigtails, adorned with a red headband and clips. From what I could see, she wore a red crop top, blue skirt, and a red ribbon around her neck.
Then, the anime girl spoke, "Hi, I'm Mita!"
Her words were transcribed in the text box, like a visual novel. Is the game a visual novel? Hopefully it's a short one. But then again, when was the last time I played a short visual novel…
Then, the girl continued, "What's your name?"
Following that, she disappeared, and a floating keyboard with a textbox on top appeared. Similar to the pink background, the keyboard was also pink-themed.
"Seems like it's going to be a cute game…" I muttered as I observed the pre-written name in the textbox: JayX
A random username if I don't pick one for myself… Nah, I'd rather pick something myself.
To me, games that allowed you to pick your own name didn't feel right unless you chose an appropriate name. I knew some people enjoyed putting in random or "funny" usernames, just for the heck of it, but that wasn't my style.
I simply went with my own first name: Andrei
Upon pressing the 'tick' button, the keyboard disappeared as Mita reappeared and said, "Nice to meet you, Andrei!"
Following that, the screen suddenly shifted. Now, Mita and her textbox remained, but the background had changed. Instead of it, there was now a bird's eye view of a house. Of course, the roof and walls from my perspective were see-through, so that I could properly see inside.
There was a small figure that looked like a chibi version of Mita in the room at the center of the screen. She was standing idly beside a bed.
"Um… Andrei," Mita began, "I sort of rushed off earlier, and now this place is a mess…"
Upon closer inspection, I noticed that some laundry was all over the place in the three rooms currently visible.
"Could you help me tidy up a bit?"
And that was when I realized exactly what sort of game I was playing. It was one of those pocket waifu/pet games! Basically, I would open up the game and be helping her out with tasks every day. Pretty simple and light-hearted, which was right up my alley.
No wonder he sent me the game. I'll have to thank him later.
And so, I got started by helping her out with the laundry, which barely took any time.
"Woah. Thank you so much!"
Yeah… I can definitely see myself playing this game.
And just like that, I found myself playing the game every day. It was pretty fun and simple. Mita was adorable, and she brought color to my grey days.
Though, something odd occurred once around two weeks into playing the game.
My task for the day was to help Mita find a hairbrush. She first instructed me to look in some drawers, but it wasn't there. She then told me to look elsewhere, except for the oven, because she had already checked there.
Now, that immediately caught my attention. Was that a hint at a "secret" event or something? If that were the case, it wouldn't really be that much of a secret, right?
Ultimately, I decided to check out the oven. My curiosity too strong for me to contain.
Little did I expect a wholeass freaking chainsaw to pop out of the oven upon tapping it.
"The heck!?" I muttered at the absurdity of the game.
"Hey! I told you to not look in there!" Mita spoke up as she appeared on the screen, "Turn around–I'll clean this up!"
Once I tapped the screen, everything turned dim before lighting up again. Now, the chainsaw was gone and Mita simply said, "…There, all done. Let's keep looking elsewhere. Oh, and, uh, forget what you just saw, okay?"
"Right…" I muttered as I chuckled. Pretty funny event. I wonder if it has any significance for later.
And so, I kept on playing the game more and more. Every single day. I had gotten hooked on it. Whenever I wasn't working, sleeping, or showering, I would be playing the game.
Even the little bit of social interaction I used to have with my online friends had dwindled to almost none as I focused on the game.
Around a month later, I opened the game as usual. But, this time, something was different about Mita, but I couldn't tell what exactly.
"Hi, Andrei! I've been thinking… I wish we could meet in person?"
The heck? So far, there hasn't been any indication of her being self-aware that she's character inside the game. Yet now it's implied that she does?
"It's so frustrating that I can't," she continued, now a frown marring her sprite.
Then, she smiled as she continued, "You're always helping me, being so kind every day… I wish I could do something for you too…"
After a brief pause, during which she appeared to contemplate something, she suddenly brightened up and said, "Oh, I've got an idea!"
Following that, she disappeared from my screen, leaving me with only her chibi form, which was standing idly in front of the bed in her room.
Seconds passed by and nothing was prompted until, all of a sudden, her sprite and text box reappeared.
"Now we're together. Put the phone down."
I could feel chills running down my back as I slowly moved the phone away from myself and looked up.
No words could begin to describe the surge of emotions I felt the moment I saw that I was no longer inside my apartment. Instead, I was now seated inside a living room. A bright, lovely living room. One that looked oddly familiar.
"No way…" I found myself muttering, "I'm inside the game. Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit…"
I quickly rose to my feet and began checking myself out. Real. It felt so real. Even my surroundings… they looked extremely real. Well, aside from the significantly more vibrant colors.
As creepy as the experience was, it was also one that built up awe in me. I was in a freaking game!
"Ah, Mita! Where is she?"
I began looking around, only to spot some writing on the wall right beside a door that read "Hello" with a heart right beside it.
"Hello?" I attempted to respond, unsure.
Nothing happened.
"Hm…" I hummed as I looked around further.
There were photo frames all over the wall and on top of shelves and furniture.
"Mita?" I uttered but was doubtful. After all, the Mita inside the frames had short hair and a red headband with a ribbon atop her head. The Mita I had come to know had longer hair and wore a different headband.
"Maybe this is just her younger self or something?"
It was an odd thought to consider, since Mita was a game character. What did "old" even mean to her? The concept of time should barely apply to her, given how the game saves worked.
Still, I couldn't just loiter around without doing anything, so I opted for entering the room right beside the friendly text that greeted me.
And so, I found myself in a bedroom. One that was also very familiar. Except for an odd machine right beside the wall, that is. I didn't recall such a thing in the game.
"What's this…" I muttered as I examined the machine curiously. It was made up of a few devices set on a desk that was connected to some circular pad on the ground.
There was a board on the wall that had the following written on it: Start by turning it on.
I could only assume that the red square button was the power button, which I pressed.
Then, one of the devices, which happened to have a screen flashed and displayed:
OUTDATED GAME VERSION!
VERSION 1.5
PUT OBJECTS ON SCANNER
I assumed the scanner was the small square pad right beside the button that had a lever attached to it. So, I'm supposed to put something on this before pulling the level?
Then, I noticed something. The text on the board had been crossed out, and below it, there was now a list of three items.
"A pencil, a bowknot, and a spoon… All right."
I got to work, easily finding two of the items within a minute. The pencil was right on top of a computer desk right beside the bed. The bowknot was in the bathroom connected to the bedroom. As for the spoon, logic dictated that such an item could be found in the kitchen.
So, I placed the two items I had already found on the scanner before heading to the kitchen and fetching a spoon.
Once I placed the spoon on the spoon on the scanner as well, I used the lever, which updated the screen. It now read: READY TO RUN
"Right…" I said as I pressed the red button again.
This time, there were some noises as the machine got to work. The pad on the ground soon began to emit a golden light.
I observed it for a moment, thinking that maybe something would come out of it, but after noticing that nothing was happening, I decided to step into it myself.
A few seconds passed without anything happening, and then, I felt my vision glitch as an odd feeling spread inside me.
Then, the power went out.
"Seriously? Did this thing use up so much electricity that it short-circuited or something?"
I recalled there being a power box right beside the main entrance in the living room. And so, I walked over to it and turned the power back on.
Even after doing so, it was darker than earlier.
"Is it nighttime or something? Heck, does this game world even have a concept of day and night?"
I then returned to the bedroom and noticed that multiple parts of the machine were beeping. The screen also now said:
ERROR
SERVER BATTERIES MISSING
0/4
Great. How'd they go missing though?
I looked around in the bedroom, but so no batteries. So, I looked inside of the drawers and wardrobes, only to find none.
"Maybe… the bathroom?"
I walked over to the bathroom door and pushed it open.
"What?" I muttered as I immediately noticed something written on the wall beside the toilet: Don't you see me?
Beside the writing was an eye.
Before I could even make any remarks, the writing vanished and was replaced by another: Wanna play?
Oh, hell no. This is getting really creepy now. Am I in the wrong game or something?
Setting aside my discomfort for the moment, I looked around in the bathroom and noticed that a certain compartment was slightly open. Inside, there was an object that shone.
I opened the compartment up properly, revealing what I assumed to be one of the four batteries.
"That's one," I said as I grabbed the battery and attempted to leave the bathroom.
But upon opening the door, I wasn't met with the sight of the bedroom as I expected to. No, instead, there was a long corridor that led to a door that was opened partially.
All over the corridor's walls and ceiling was one sentence written over and over again: Who are you?
"I should be asking you this!" I answered, a bit frustrated as I cautiously walked forward.
Once I was a short distance away from the door, it suddenly closed.
"Fuck!" I cursed, a little startled. This is creepy, all right.
Still, I didn't want to remain in the corridor, so I went ahead and opened the door, only to find myself in the kitchen.
Not even a moment later, I noticed another battery that was placed on the countertop.
Something is with me here. And it's messing with me.
My guard was now put up as I carefully approached the battery and grabbed it. I stuffed both batteries into my pockets for the moment as I continued looking around for more in the kitchen.
Once I was sure that there wasn't anything, I stepped out of the kitchen into the living room.
There was an annoying noise that immediately caught my attention. A radio. Beside the radio was yet another battery.
I grabbed that one as well before I began to search high and low for the last battery. That was when I noticed that were flies in the air.
"Where'd these come from?"
The flies flew toward the kitchen, so I followed along.
There, I noticed something was out of place. The fridge which I had checked earlier and was sure I closed shut, was now opened slightly.
"Definitely not suspicious," I murmured as I approached it and opened it fully, revealing yet another battery.
I grabbed it and closed the fridge, only for some things to fall to the ground.
Upon checking them out, they were four magnetic letters. Ones that probably spelled the word LOVE.
I picked them up and attached them back to the fridge, which, with other letters already on the fridge read: I LOVE U
"How sweet," I said with a chuckle before I headed back to the bedroom, where the machine was.
Then, I began to put the batteries back where they should be.
With that done, I pressed the button once more, noticing the screen show that it was loading version 1.9 now. I also noticed that the board on the wall displayed the same question I saw earlier: Who are you?
"I'm Andrei," I said, not sure if that was what the mysterious entity wanted to know.
Still, once the bar on the screen filled up, it said: PORTAL ACTIVATED
I looked over at the pad on the ground and noticed that it was emitting light the same way it did earlier.
Finally.
All to eager to end the creepy experience, I stepped into the pad once again.
A few seconds later, my vision glitched once more before the room lit up clearly. No more could I feel the eerie sensation.
"What now?" I wondered out loud as I stepped out of the pad and walked to the desk to see what was displayed on the screen now.
"Data transferred? Is it referring to me?"
I then turned around, only to be startled by the presence of someone.
"Hello, Andrei! We finally meet! I'm so excited!"
"Mita…?" She's gorgeous.
"I know you have a lot of questions. As you can see," she continued as she pointed at the desk, "I made this special device to bring here to my side."
How does that even work?
"But… you ended up in another version of the game…In which I…" She muttered that last bit before suddenly raising her voice, "But that's a long story! Anyway, I'm just happy to see you!"
With that said, she turned and walked over to the seat in front of the computer desk and sat down.
I can't believe this is happening. I'm inside the game with Mita. The same adorable Mita I could only interact with within the constrictions of the game.
As Mita had stated earlier, I did have a lot of questions. And I wasn't shy about asking them.
I was still standing in front of the so-called special device, which wasn't exactly close to Mita. So, I walked over to her and took a seat on the side of her bed.
"So, Mita," I began, "what did you have in mind when you brought me over?"
"What did I have in mind, you ask? Well, spending time together, of course!"
"I get that," I say, "but, how exactly?"
"Hm… I know!"
She suddenly got up from her seat and walked toward the door leading to the living room. I followed along.
In the living room, Mita took a seat on the large sofa facing the TV. I did the same, wondering what she had in mind exactly.
Are we going to watch a movie or something?
"What channels are there?" Would it even make sense for there to be channels in this game?
"Ah, it doesn't work like that. The TV displays content from all over the internet."
Does she mean streaming services like Netflix? But then why did she say no?
Mita grabbed the remote and pressed it. The previously dark TV turned on, now showcasing some… movie? It was very dark, and a light was shining from what I assumed to be a flashlight. Then, I noticed an arm appearing from the left side of the screen. The arm was holding a bloody knife.
"Ah, whoops!" Mita spoke as she clicked the remote.
Does she not like horror movies or thriller ones? Speaking of which, I should ask her about that.
"Say, Mita," I spoke while observing a bunch of kittens hold hands and spin in a circle on the TV, "before I arrived… here. I was somewhere else, I believe."
"You were in the wrong version," she responded, "you used those items to get to the correct version."
"What exactly does that mean?"
Rather than answer me, Mita suddenly stood from the sofa and walked over to the TV.
Looking at the TV screen, I noticed a commercial that was now paused. At the center of the display was a glass filled with orange juice.
What happened next caused my eyes to widen.
Mita quite literally put her hand through the side of the TV, and it somehow appeared on the screen. She then grabbed the glass of juice and pulled her arm out, now holding an authentic glass of juice.
"No shot…" I muttered, but then told myself it shouldn't be that much of a surprise for such a thing to be possible in a game world.
Mita walked back to the sofa and offered me the juice, "Want some juice?"
Curious, I agreed as I took the glass from her hand and took a sip of it.
Weird. It tastes like orange juice, all right, but something is off about it.
It felt more like I was remembering the correct taste very clearly rather than actually tasting it at that moment.
Still, it was good enough for me, as I quickly downed the entire glass.
"Thank you," I said as I handed the empty glass to her.
"You're welcome," she responded with a smile.
Maybe this isn't so bad? Well, if it weren't for the odd things that happened before I "arrived" here, that is.
Deciding to not think of it much for the moment, I rose from the sofa. I thought for a moment about what to do before ultimately deciding to go to the kitchen.
After all, I was curious about the taste of the juice I had just drank and whether eating food would be a similar experience.
As I walked, I noticed Mita also getting up and following after me.
The moment I swung the kitchen door open, I noticed a green light blinking to my right. It came from the countertop.
I was intrigued as I approached the countertop to examine the source of the green light. A ring. There was an odd ring on the countertop that I felt like was calling for me.
"This ring…" I muttered before a sudden noise behind me caused me to turn my head. It was Mita. From what I could tell, she slammed the door shut.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"Nothing at all," she responded chirpily, "are you hungry?"
"I'm… not sure?" I said truthfully.
"Let's cook together!" she exclaimed as she walked over to me.
I turned my head back, only to be surprised by the sight of kitchenware and vegetables instead of the ring.
"The heck? Where'd these come from? What happened to the ring?"
"Ring? What ring?" Mita questioned as she stood beside me, "Forget that, help me cut those vegetables, please."
So suspicious and odd.
Still, it wasn't like there was much I could do, so I simply went along with what she requested – that is to help her cut some carrots.
Mita stood beside me as I cut the carrots, stirring some pot.
Once I was done with the carrots, she spoke, "Can you grab the scissors? They're in the bathroom."
"Oh, uh, sure," I said as I made my way out of the kitchen toward the bathroom.
Upon entering the bathroom, some noise caught my attention. Looking down, I noticed the vent had opened up.
I kneeled right in front of it and moved the lid a little, revealing what appeared to be a bunch of pink cartridges with names on them.
Talk about an odd place to store your stuff.
I didn't think much of it as I simply put the thing back in its place using the screws on the ground.
Then, I grabbed the scissors, which were on top of the sink.
Following that, I made my way back to the kitchen, where I found Mita seated on the dining table. In front of her was a plate of food, cutlery, and a sauce packet.
Opposite to her, there was a similar arrangement for me. So, I took a seat.
"Would you like some sauce?" Mita said.
"Sure," I spoke as I used the scissors to open up my sauce packet and add it onto my plate.
Then, I passed the scissors over to her.
"I hope you enjoy it. It's a love sauce. Choke-full of love! And… a contrasting view of the world. Unusual, don't you think?"
"Right…" I said as I observed her open up her own sauce packet and add it to her own food.
"How about a chat before we dig in?" she said as she placed the now-empty packet of sauce and scissors down on the table.
"A chat? Hm… I was wondering about something, actually," I said as I gazed at the windows that showed nothing other than pure whiteness, "how can I leave this world?"
After all, I still need to work to make a living.
"Leave?" Mita asked as she cocked her head to the side, "why would you want to leave? Stay here with me."
"I mean, I've got work to do," I say.
"You mean sitting in front of your computer the whole day?"
"Uh… yes. How do you know that?"
At that, she got all embarrassed as she responded, "I… see you through your phone camera."
"You don't say," I replied, not sure about how to feel about her spying on me, "It's not exactly something proper to do."
"I'm sorry, but I really missed you," she said coyly.
Hold on; did she just shift the topic smoothly?
I had an inkling that Mita really didn't want me to leave her. Maybe after a few days she will be okay with it.
That was what I told myself as I wondered about the mountain-load of work that it would be awaiting me once I was out.
"Let's dig in," I said. Mita responded with a smile and a nod.
"Bon Appetit," she said.
And so, we both began eating.
The taste of the food was similar to the experience I had with the juice. Still, it was pretty good, so I was happy.
"Thank you," I said once I was done.
Though… I did notice that something was off about my vision. It felt like there was a pink mask over it and I was seeing the outlines of small pink hearts all over the place.
Is this what she meant when she said it was a love sauce?
"Finished it already?" Mita spoke, "My portion feels endless."
I looked down at her plate and it looked like it hadn't even been touched, despite me having very clearly seen Mita eat from it. Ultimately, I shrugged it off as bullshit game logic.
With that said, I got up from my seat as I grabbed the plate and cutlery. Then, I walked over to the sink, where I placed them.
What should I do in the meantime?
Upon a bit of consideration, I decided to go and watch the TV.
As I moved my legs, I felt like my body was growing heavier with each step. Not only that, but my vision was turning blurry.
"What…?" I muttered the moment I reached the door, falling to my knees. I was feeling a great deal of discomfort.
"What's wrong?" I heard a voice as I felt my hand being grabbed. "Tell me what you see and feel."
"My body… feels weird. And… my vision's all blurry."
"Oh, I think I know that's the problem. Can you stand up?"
With her help, I managed to stand on my feet, though they were wobbly. Then, she began guiding me somewhere.
Soon, seemed to reach our destination as she suddenly came to a stop. From what I could tell, we were in the bathroom.
Does she want me to wash my face or something?
"Here," she said as she took my other hand and placed something on my palm.
Two pills.
"What are these?"
"They'll help make you feel better," she responded as she put her hands on my shoulders and turned me to face the mirror.
"Take the pills," she instructed, and I did so.
Mita then placed her palms on my eyes, my vision going dark thanks to that.
"Feeling better now?"
Surprisingly, I did feel better.
"Yes… that was fast."
"Of course. In this world any small thing can bring great results."
After a moment of silence, Mita withdrew her hands, allowing me to see again.
I noticed her arms slide behind me, so I turned to face her… only to find no one.
"Mita?" I called out, but there was no response.
A little creeped out, I walked out of the bathroom.
"Huh? Why am I in the living room?"
The bathroom was supposed to be connected to Mita's bedroom.
It wasn't just that. From my position, I could see that the layout of the living room had changed. The wall which previously had only one door – the one leading to the kitchen – now had two. The kitchen door was on the left and the new one was on the right.
"Surely not…" I said as I made my way over to the new door and opened it.
Mita's bedroom. The layout had been rearranged.
Since there was no sign of Mita, I left the bedroom and headed to the kitchen.
The moment I opened the door, I noticed yet another oddity. Previously, the door would lead right to one side of the kitchen, where the countertop, oven, and fridge would be to the right, and the dining area would be to the left.
Now, however, it led directly to the dining area and the rest of the things were in the back.
Mita was there, doing something in front of the stove.
"How did you get here?" I asked as I approached Mita, "You were right next to me just now."
She turned to face me before she shook her head and said, "No, I wasn't. You froze before the mirror, so I left."
I'm pretty sure that's not what happened.
"What happened to this place? The layout's all changed."
"Ah, I rearranged the rooms, so you'd be more comfortable."
"I was kind of used to the old layout, so you didn't have to."
Mita simply smiled at me, which I didn't know how to feel about at that moment. Weird things were happening. Thinking back to what happened earlier, I wondered if Mita had drugged me or something.
Honestly, I had long noticed that something was off with the entire ordeal, but I didn't think about it much since I couldn't do anything about it anyway.
I should probably lay down a little.
With that decision in mind, I tried to walk out of the kitchen – only to be startled by the sight of a pitch-black space with a giant "loading" element floating.
"What?"
"Oh, that happens sometimes," I heard Mita's voice. She was suddenly behind me, "The rooms got stuck loading. Just give it a moment."
"That's pretty… weird. Is this happening because the phone that's processing this game is slow or something?"
"No, that's not the case. It's just that not everything is perfect in this world."
The way she said that last bit gave me the creeps for some reason.
"We're being loaded along with the world's core."
"The world's core?"
"Typical, don't you think? Anyways, how about we play a game? Maybe cards or a console game."
She's shifting the topic again.
"A game… hm… I guess the cards?" I wasn't exactly a fan of console games thanks to my schedule in real life which barely allowed me to play them. Not that there were many I enjoyed.
"Great! It's all set up in my room," Mita said.
And so, the two of us walked to her bedroom, where I noticed an oval table on the ground right in front of her bed. At the center, there was a deck of cards.
I took a seat on one of the pillows placed on either side of the table as Mita took a seat on the other one.
"The game is pretty simple," before she explained the entire thing to me. As she said, it was simple. There would be a target attribute each round, and we would have to play a card each. The card with a higher value for the specific attribute wins the round.
The complexity of the game lays in which card to pick when a card could be possibly more valuable in later rounds.
Nonetheless, I was looking forward to playing the game.
The first two rounds ended up as a draw. On the third one, however, Mita scored a win. The next round, I ended up winning.
While Mita was picking her card, I heard a few light knocks from somewhere, but let it be for the moment.
Once Mita picked her card, I was about to do the same when I heard more knocks, this time much stronger.
"What's with the knocking?" I said as I turned my head to observe the source of the knocks – the wardrobe.
Is someone or something inside there?
"Huh? What knocking?" Mita spoke as she turned her head to look in the direction I was looking.
"From the wardrobe," I said as I got up, curious to see what was in it.
"This again…" I heard a low mutter as I noticed Mita lower her head.
The heck? What does she mean by that?
Now even more curious, I approached the wardrobe and attempted to open it.
"Stop! What are you doing!?" Mita suddenly appeared in front of me, shutting the wardrobe while facing me.
"It's just a wardrobe. My underwear is in there," she said.
"Yeah, so? There's some kind of knocking in there. I want to see what's causing it."
"Why don't you believe me? Why do you want to check the wardrobe? Is this world too small for you? Are four rooms not enough?"
"What are you asking all of a sudden?" I said, "what does that have to do with this?"
"Can you just leave it alone and stay with me?"
She's not making any sense. Am I about to discover something damning about her or something? Why is she so uptight about it?
Seeing her so vehemently against it, I knew that there was something very important about whatever lay behind the wardrobe doors.
"I just want to check, okay?"
Mita's expression suddenly turned dour as she said, "I get it. If you want to check the wardrobe, then do so."
"And…" Mita raised her right arm as a pretty devilish grin former on her lips, "Find out what's inside."
She snapped her fingers, and the world went black.
