Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Contract a beast
"Where is he?"
"Miss, he is in the training hall."
"Ok," and she headed toward the training hall.
As she entered the training hall, she was mesmerized by the sight.
Clang Clang
Sam, with a sword, was practicing while his Emberfluff lay quietly on his shoulder.
Coming near Sam, she asked, "Can I touch your beast?" with her sparkling eyes.
Blinking his eyes, he betrayed his beast and handed it over. "You can take this, miss."
Emberfluff flared its claws up and down to scare her, but it became even more mesmerizing in her eyes.
"Oh! I love it," she said and rubbed her face on its fur.
Meow Roar
It imitated many voices but somehow became even cuter with its small size.
"What's the name of this beast? I also want to tame one."
Sam's body halted for a moment, and an unnaturalness flashed on his face but disappeared as quickly as it came.
Stopping his training, he wiped the sweat and sat down. "Miss, you shouldn't know this."
Her curiosity and Emberfluff's beauty overwhelmed her. "No, I want to tame this beast too."
Watching her enjoying her childish excitement, he lied, "It was gifted," though it was also half true.
"OH!" her mood slumped down.
Sam encouraged her, "Thinking about the future always makes us ignore the present, which we should enjoy before it slips by unnoticed."
Her eyes narrowed. "Your talk, your attitude, your straight face... make me think that you've got some real deal, but you're just a kid my age. Are you..."
Thumped
Sam's heart trembled. Impossible! She shouldn't know. He quickly responded, "Sorry, miss, I didn't get what you're talking about."
Hahaha
"Why are you getting so nervous? I was joking."
But Sam didn't believe her because he knew their worlds were too far apart from the civilians. They had already touched on something since birth.
Knowing his futile effort, he simply let out a sigh. "I have to admit, you've got some real skill despite your age. I've seen many people and guarded them, so I can read psychology better than anyone."
Shaking his head, he smiled bitterly. "I know you've already guessed something about me since we spent some days together, but I'm not ready to discuss my life. My life… my comrades… it's better if they are left untouched. I don't know if I'm still..." He suddenly regained himself. "Oh, sorry, miss, for showing my poor side," and left with his Emberfluff.
Glancing at Sam's back, Divya smiled bitterly. "I know. I'm alone in my family. I've seen life too closely with my own eyes, but I need a partner, I need a comrade, I need someone who can support me in tough times," she murmured, glancing at the ceiling.
Roses always bloom with thorns.

"What do you think? Is my decision wrong?"
The butler knew that this was the moment he needed to show support. "No, sir. It's just that miss has seen the realities of the world far too early. Though it seems to have stolen her childhood, her shoulders carry the weight of the Verma family. She needs someone who can support her, listen to her, take her side, and most importantly, someone she can trust without fear of betrayal."
"Sometimes I think: Am I rushing? She should have lived at least 20 years without knowing anything. But now, seeing her childish side and how she hides her overwhelmed feelings makes me regret my decision. I may have passed as Verma but failed as a father."
The butler sighed. "The coin has already been tossed. We have to trust her and stand by her side to keep her from losing hope."
"You are right," and his face hardened. "I'm thinking of training both."
"Okay, sir, I'll arrange everything."

Glancing at the ceiling, he let his body rest on the bed, caressing the fur of Emberfluff. He promised himself, "Sorry, buddy. I have to move forward," and closed his eyes.
"I was pathetic and let you lose your life," he whispered. The words lingered in the room, though a tear slipped from his eyes.

The darkness enveloping the whole sky seemed to fade as a faint but bright light penetrated and fell on the face of a boy who seemed to be training his body.
A man with silver hair entered the training hall.
Stopping his training, he stared at the silver-haired man. "Morning, Sir."
The man nodded his head. "Come here, I have something to share with you."
Sam's eyes flickered. Putting a hold on his training, he wiped the sweat and came before the silver-haired man.
"Let's go for a walk."
"Hmm."
The faint sunlight fell on both of them as they calmly walked in the lawn.
"How's your life going?"
"My life is going very well, Sir, and thanks for asking..."
"You can drop the formality."
The silver-haired man continued his steps, enjoying the scenery as he also continued the conversation. In contrast, Sam calmly followed him.
"Alright."
"You should already know why I hired you?"
Sam flinched and gave a bitter smile. "Yes, Sir, you need a teammate for your daughter."
"Hmm. Initially, my plan was to adopt, but my instincts objected. After many thoughts, I heard about the auction, and you suited all my conditions."
Sam had already realized this the moment he entered the mansion for the first time, but since nobody asked, he decided to go with the flow. He had already accepted his fate and expected to be notified eventually, but he didn't expect it to be this early.
"Hmm. I know since you understand my situation better than anyone."
The silver-haired man's footsteps halted as he peered into Sam's eyes. "I was told everything about you the moment I bought you."
Shaking his head, Sam hardened his face. "Now I want to change, change myself, and contract a beast."
The silver-haired man chuckled. "No need to be so hasty. Tomorrow, meet me at this time. I have a surprise for you."
