Rising Shadows: Uchiha's Wrath

Chapter 73: Chapter 71(Bonus chapter) The Fifth Mizukage Uchiha Kaito

Saiga Takamaru's massive body collapsed to the ground with a resonating thud. The air was thick with tension, but Kaito remained calm, sliding his sword back into its sheath with practised ease. His expression betrayed no emotion, as though he had merely chopped down a tree rather than executed a man.

"Saiga Takamaru was a traitor," Kaito declared, his voice cutting through the silence like a blade. "His betrayal ends here."

The onlookers flinched as Kaito's gaze swept across them, sharp and unyielding. "Does anyone object?"

Terumi Mei stepped forward without hesitation, her fiery eyes meeting Kaito's. "Lord Kaito did what had to be done. Traitors deserve no sympathy." Her voice carried a conviction that left no room for doubt. Even if Kaito hadn't acted, she would have delivered the fatal blow herself. The other Mist ninja murmured their agreement, their collective disdain for betrayal uniting them.

In every corner of the world, a traitor is the most despised existence.

Satisfied with their response, Kaito said nothing further. Instead, he approached Saiga's lifeless body and carefully unfastened the large blade strapped to his back. The weapon was iconic, a symbol of power—and now, a prize.

As Kaito examined the sword, Kisame, who had been silently observing, tensed. His instincts screamed caution, but before he could react, Kaito unleashed a sudden burst of chakra. The raw power sent a shiver through everyone present. Kisame froze in place, his resistance quelled by Kaito's overwhelming presence.

Turning the blade in his hands, Kaito regarded it with mild disdain. "A sword like this wasted on someone like him," he muttered. Without a second thought, he tossed it to a young man with striking, shark-like features. The weapon landed with a heavy thud at the youth's feet.

Kaito's piercing gaze locked onto the young man. "I see potential in you," he said, his tone measured but firm. "From now on, this blade is yours. Use it well."

The young man's eyes widened in disbelief. He hesitated, then grasped the hilt of the massive sword and stood it upright with reverence. "Thank you, Lord Kaito," he said, his voice filled with awe. This young man was Kisame, later known as the "Tailless Beast." Though his future held infamy, Kaito had seen in him a strength worth cultivating.

Kaito's actions were deliberate. He intended to steer Kisame away from the manipulative clutches of Obito. In the ninja world, power like Kisame's was a dangerous commodity, and Kaito had no intention of letting it fall into the wrong hands.

At that moment, Master Yuan stepped forward, his elderly face creased with a knowing smile. "With this matter resolved, let us not linger here. Lord Kaito, perhaps you should rest while we handle the aftermath. When all is settled, we will seek your counsel on other pressing issues."

Kaito nodded. "Very well."

Under Master Yuan's guidance, Kaito and his entourage were escorted into the Mist Ninja Village. They were provided accommodations befitting their status. Meanwhile, Terumi Mei and Master Yuan worked tirelessly to address the lingering consequences of Saiga's betrayal.

Kaito, however, had other matters on his mind. Before Master Yuan departed, he requested Kisame remain behind. Alone in the dimly lit room, Kaito faced the young warrior.

"You seem conflicted," Kaito began, his voice softer now, but no less commanding. Kisame's sharp eyes narrowed, but he said nothing.

After a long silence, Kisame finally spoke. "What do you want from me, Lord Kaito?"

Kaito's lips curved into a faint smile. "I'm not blind to your struggles," he said. "Today's events merely accelerated what was inevitable. Had this battle not occurred, you would have killed Saiga yourself. Am I wrong?"

Kisame's breath hitched. How could Kaito know that? He felt exposed, as though his innermost thoughts had been laid bare.

"You've grown weary," Kaito continued, his tone almost sympathetic. "As a Mist ninja, you were ordered to kill your comrades to protect the village's secrets. You've justified it as loyalty, but deep down, you're torn. You no longer know who you are or what you're fighting for."

Kisame clenched his fists. Memories surged unbidden, images of his past missions flashing before his eyes. He recalled the young girl who had whispered, "Your life must be so hard," just before he ended hers. Her words had lingered, haunting him.

"Who am I fighting for?" Kisame murmured. "Who are my friends, my enemies? What is my purpose?"

Kaito's gaze softened. "Peace is not something you will find out there," he said, gesturing vaguely. "The world is steeped in conflict, born of human greed. As long as this system of war persists, peace will remain an illusion."

Kisame's shoulders slumped. For the first time, he felt seen and understood. Yet Kaito's words stirred something within him—not despair, but determination.

"Follow me," Kaito said, extending a hand. "Together, we can change the course of this broken world. But to do that, you must first decide who you are."

Kisame stared at Kaito's outstretched hand, his mind a storm of emotions. At last, he nodded, gripping Kaito's hand firmly. At that moment, his path became clear.

For Kisame, this was not the end but a new beginning—one where loyalty and strength would forge a future unlike any he had known before.
