Chapter 50: A Failed Reunion.
Carlson smiled, a hint of hope in his eyes. "I would like that. I miss her and our baby so much."
Laura reached out and put a hand on Carlson's arm. " I am sure they miss you too, Carlson. Just be patient and focus on taking care of yourself right now. Things will get better with time."
After breakfast, Laura got ready to go to her home so that she could leave for work. She thanked Carlson again for his kindness and promised to reply to him soon. As she walked out of the house, she couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder about Carlson.
The house she had just left was magnificent with lavish furnishings and expensive artwork adorning the walls. It was clear that Carlson was a wealthy man, but what she couldn't understand was how he made his money.
Was he the owner of Sha industries, or was it just a coincidence that they shared a similar name? Laura's curiosity was piqued, and she found herself wanting to know more about this energetic man.
As she drove to work, Laura's mind was preoccupied with thoughts of Carlson. She couldn't believe how much he had helped her in her time of need, and she felt a deep sense of gratitude towards him.
But as she arrived at the office, Laura's curiosity was now over driven. She needed to find out more about Carlson's role in the Sha industries and how he had amassed his wealth. And as she sat down at her desk, Laura knew that she was going to have to do some digging to uncover the truth about the mysterious Carlson.
Carlson stood in the baby's room, surrounded by the remnants of a nursery that had never been used. He looked down at the birthday present in his hands, a small, exquisitely wrapped box with a pink bowl.
But it was hard to believe. It had been a year since their baby had gone missing. A year since, their lives have been turned upside down.
Carlson's eyes wandered to the wall, where he had hung a framed picture of Rita, holding her swollen belly. They had planned to name the baby Krista, a name they had both loved.
As he looked at the picture, Carlson felt a surge of determination. He had promised Rita that he would find their baby, and he was more determined than ever to keep that promise.
"Happy birthday Krista!" Carlson whispered, his voice cracking with emotion." I promise you. I will find you. I will take you home."
Carlson placed the birthday present on the shelf next to the other gifts he had bought for Krista over the past year. He took a deep breath, feeling a sense of resolve wash over him.
He then picked up his car keys and decided to pay a visit to Rita, his wife, so that he could take her for dinner to celebrate Krista's birthday even though she had got lost.
Carlson stood outside his father-in-law's house clutching a bouquet of flowers in his hand. He took a deep breath, steeling himself for the encounter a head. Today was Krista's birthday, and Carlson had decided to visit his wife, Rita, to celebrate.
As he walked into the house, Carlson was greeted by his father-in-law, David, who looked at him with a mixture of sadness and wariness.
"Carlson," David said, his voice neutral."what brings you here today?" Carlson held out the flowers. "I wanted to see Rita. Today is our daughter's birthday, and I thought we could celebrate it together."
David's expression softened slightly, but he shook his head. " I am afraid Rita doesn't want to see you, Carlson."
Carlson's heart sank, but he refused to give up.Please, just tell her I am here. I promise I won't stay long."
David hesitated, then nodded. " Okay, I will tell her. But I warn you, Carlson, she is not in a good mood right now."
Carlson nodded, his heart heavy with emotions. He waited anxiously as David went to tell Rita that he was there.
But instead of Rita coming out to see him, Carlson heard the sound of a bedroom door slamming shut. He felt a pang of disappointment and sadness.
"Rita?" he called out, his voice soft and gentle." Please, just talk to me. I want to celebrate Krista's birthday with you."
There was no response, just silence. Carlson's heart sank, and he realized that he had been shut out again.
He stood there for a moment, feeling helpless and defeated. Then slowly, he turned and walked away, the bouquet of flowers still clutched in his hand.
Naome, Rita's mother, walked into Rita's bedroom with a look of concern etched on her face. "Rita, dear you can't keep avoiding him forever," she said, referring to Carlson.
Rita lay in bed, her back turned to her mother. I don't want to see him, mother," she said, her voice cold and detached.
Naome sighed and sat down on the bedside." Rita forgetting the past is the only way to happiness. You can't keep dwelling on what happened. You have to move on "
Rita turned over, her eyes flashing with anger." You don't understand, mother. You don't know what it's like to lose a child. To have your husband, Rita's voice trailed off, and she turned away again.
Naome put a gentle hand on Rita's shoulder. "I may not understand, dear, but I do know that holding onto anger and bitterness will not bring Krista back. And it will not heal your marriage."
Rita shook her head, her eyes welling up with tears." I don't want to see him, mother. Please, just leave me alone."
Naome sighed and stood up." Okay, dear. But please, think about what I said."
Meanwhile, Carlson was still standing in the living room, the bouquet of flowers in his hand. When it became clear that Rita was not going to come out and see him, he decided to give the flowers to Naome instead.
"Thank you for trying to talk to her, Naome Carlson said, handing her the flowers. " I appreciate it."
Naome took the flowers and smiled sadly. "I am so sorry, Carlson. I wish things could be different.
Carlson walked into the study room, where David was sitting behind his desk. "David, can I talk to you for a minute?" Carlson asked, looking confused and troubled.
