Chapter 2: Mother's teachings
One sunny day, Evans woke up as usual, basking in as much warmth as he can find. His skin was finally staring to become a light shade of pink due to all of the light and nutrients he has been getting. Suddenly his mother, who had been lying beside, got up and lifted him up. "What's going on?" Startled, Evans looked around confused as he was dragged to a different part of the forest. It was full of activity, with vigor wasps buzzing about, pink parexuses swimming freely and jagaruses fleeing having seen the pair of mother and son arriving.
Evans' mother places him on a nearby stump and begins gesturing towards a tree. Evans, somewhat confused, just sat and watched as his mother kept snapping her teeth at the tree. 'Does she want me to... bite the tree?' Seeing that this impromptu game of charades was not getting her point across, his mother huffed out a puff of hot air from her nostrils and decided to demonstrate instead.
She crouched slightly and then, to Evans shock, lunged at the tree and crushing it between her jaws, splinters flying around the area. 'So THATS why anjanath are called the fierce jaw wyvern.' now Evans understood- his mother was teaching him how to use the power in his still developing body. He got off the stump he was on and approached the nearest tree. "Seems easy enough." mimicking his mothers previous display, he crouched low and sprang at the tree trunk, jaw wide open ready to obliterate the foolish tree standing in his way.
WHACK! "OW! DAMMIT!"
Contrary to his expectations of a chopped tree, Evans now found himself teeth stuck within the bark of a tree, trying to use his legs to pull himself out as his arms were too short. His mother, watching his 'amazing' display of power, started... making a chuffing sound? "Hey! stop laughing at me!" enraged and feeling slightly humiliated, Evans redoubled his efforts, finally prying his fangs from the bark of the tree that wronged him. "I WILL chop this tree down, you'll see!" after grumbling to his mother, still amused by his antics, he turned his attention back to the tree, repeating his attempt from earlier.
Now with a goal in mind, Evans spent the month hacking out his new mortal nemesis - the iron tree(in his mind it is iron). By the second week, his mother showed him how to sharpen his fangs using the rocks around them and which ones will do best, as if a blacksmith teaching their apprentice about using a grindstone to perfect his swords. 'No doubt i should be able to bring that tree down now with this knowledge!' Sure enough, by the end of the month evens has not only chopped down his enemy(he even tore it like a canine would a chew toy, to his moms exasperation) but has turned the area within a 50 meters radius into a warzone of fallen trees. if it weren't for the teeth marks left on some of the trees, the hunters would think that a hurricane flew by. Thankfully, they have been preoccupied with exploring the new world at this time, otherwise Evans would have been charged the death penalty for his acts of deforestation.
Having shown he is now capable of bringing down tree, his mother brought him to the open field for his next lesson - scare tactics. The pair of mother and son move ahead to deal with their first scare victims - aptonoths. The pitiful yet delicious tasting creatures have no idea of the two anjanath hiding nearby, watching as they graze on the grassy plains. Evans mother, after gesturing to stay put, snuck as close as possible to the unaware herd. Then, she reared up hear head and took in a large amount of air.
AUGHGRAHHHH! GRAAAAHH! (a/n: this was literally what i heard when replaying a video three times to confirm)
"Woah." The Thunderous sound that was produced was like no other. the very air shivered from how powerful and aggressive it had seemed, as if something malevolent had made its Prescence aware.
The aptonoth fared no better. Many stampeded amongst each other, running as fast as their stubby legs could take them, hoping to never encounter whatever made such a primal noise. Some of the weaker willed aptonoth had fainted, too shocked to even make coherent thoughts. Having both asserted her dominance and scoring today's dinner, Evans mom grabbed one of the fainted aptonoth and started heading back to the nest. Evan, coming to his senses, quickly snagged one of the other fallen aptonoths and hurried to keep up, thinking 'I've seen and heard anjanath roar in the games before, but experiencing it in reality is a lot louder than i thought...more frightening too!'
Thus came to an end of Evans' lessons and his first ever hunt(kind of)
