Chapter 54: Diary Series: The Obnoxious Treasure of the Witch
Entry 1: Naming Quest
Dear Diary,
Levi had been… monitoring my concoctions. There was Ion too whose face looks appalled by the sight of my creations. Regardless, I carried on! Who knows if one day these potions of mine become badly needed? I must take part in clearing up the reputation of all witches! Though humans do not really treat us horribly like it was told in stories, some just avoid our presence.
That aside, I made a new one today. I have not named it, so I'm going around the tavern asking everyone for whatever lexicon would come to mind when they see and smell its scent. For some reason, their shoulders seem to become tense after inhaling a whiff. Perhaps its scent is too strong?
I tried it, it smelled pleasantly like the earth during a rain!
Entry 2: Potions for Ion
Dear Diary,
Ion saw me walking around with the potion so he took it away and told me to go back to my workshop. He took it… does he like my potions? Ah, that must be it!
He's been hard at work in the tavern lately with the Shadow Circle, so I must give him a reward as his employer, right?
I'll brew him new ones with different variants! Oh, I must go and gather more herbs from Alpheratz' dome! He has some weird ones!
Entry 3: Fancy [En]counter
Dear Diary,
I could not find Ion, nor Alpheratz so I was not able to give him the new batch that I created. What a pity…
I'll just set these aside for now, I feel bad that my potions often end up hiding in the crates. Maybe I should set up a corner in the tavern for my potions? That seems to be a great idea! Ion would like it too!
Oh, how exciting! Should I ask Vernon to make a portable stand? He's been giving out those to the vendors on the street as of late—oh, I had another idea! I'll ask Alpheratz to extend the counter area! But, I really wanted to do it now, and he's nowhere to be found…
Should I try using the memory?
Entry 4: Potions for Sale!
Dear Diary,
It was already late afternoon when I had finished the last of my attempts; I did well! Though the counter area is completely transformed. After all, I could only build using what is existing within the memory.
The counter is not only longer, but also wider and the surface is made of marbles. Behind the counter are tall shelves and the board where the keys are hung up. The counter looks fancy and out-of-place, but it's pretty and huge so I'm keeping it!
I waited until closing before arranging my collection of potions. My potions can finally have some recognition!
Entry 5: Antique Collections
Dear Diary,
I woke up late earlier so I missed the sight of my potions being sold off! It was quite disappointing, but I have more so I just restocked the shelves.
Early in the afternoon, Levi arrived and his eyes widened comically at the sight of the brand new counter. He must be amazed too; he was still and silent for a while like a statue. Was it that great?
After a while, he started browsing the shelves. Levi picked up the price board and pointed at it. His face was making a funny expression as he spoke to me. “These potions are only for a few silver coins? Are you perhaps unaware that every single one of these is worth more than 5 gold coins within Astralyth? These are made with the old witch's recipe, aren't it?"
When I told him that it was in fact brewed from that very recipe, his eyes almost looked like it was going to fall out of his eye sockets. He was even more surprised when I had mentioned that I was able to sell out a fully stocked shelf just this morning. I guess my potion business is a success?
Yours in adventure,
Elara
