Volume 1 Chapter 1: Destiny Awaits
The sun rose on a new day in a castle home in the Kingdom of Vale. Boxes and other forms of luggage filled the house, to the point moving about the spacious abode was quite difficult. It was demanding work, but necessary for the prodigious family. As a silver-haired, green-eyed boy of about twelve years old soon found out, as he could not find any of his belongings among the boxes he was in charge of unpacking.
"Mom! Where are my painting supplies!?" the boy asked.
"I'm not sure, Argent. We did pack them, but with how many boxes we had to use, I'm not sure. We will find them eventually." his mother answered from the kitchen.
The woman that was his mother looked to be in her fifties. She was fair-skinned and about five feet and four inches tall. Her hair was long, wavy, and silver in color, reaching down to the middle of her back. Her eyes were deep emerald green and shone like gems in the light. Her build was slim, but voluptuous, with an impressive amount of muscle tone hidden behind a formal suit with a green undershirt.
"Listen to your mother, son. We'll find them eventually. We just need to look." his father responded from the living room as Azura and a young man about half a foot taller than him aided him in moving in some furniture.
The man was noticeably big, standing at about seven feet in height and a solid wall of muscle. Unlike Azura, he was a bit more on the tanned side and had sharper, but still regal facial features. His royal azure blue hair was kept short, and his dark azure-blue eyes shined in the light like pools of deep, dark water in an icy northern ocean.
"How is moving in the furniture coming, Azolum? Are you and the boys nearly done?" the woman asked her husband.
"Almost done, Verdant. We just need to move the couch and entertainment center in, then we can start unpacking." Azolum told his wife in response.
"Well, what are you waiting for, old man? If we spent less time talking about what we need to do and instead just did it, we would be done by now." a voice could be heard from behind some boxes.
As Azolum turned to look at the source of the voice, he saw a young man who, while shorter than him, still towered over Verdant, Argent, and even Azura at six foot six inches tall. He had a golden bronze tan, a chiseled, strong face, pure blue eyes, and a clean-shaven head. His body was heavily muscled, perfectly balanced and toned so that all his muscles got the definition they deserved. As he dusted himself off, his quite simple and light monk-like training clothes fluttered a bit due to their loose design.
"Hey, watch how you speak to your father, Quain." Azolum playfully chided his eldest son.
"Perhaps if you got moving old man, I would not have to speak as such." Quain answered with a smirk.
"I agree with him, father. We should focus more on moving everything in so that we can unpack and relax." Azura told his father.
"Two against one? Not fair. But, in all seriousness, let's get back to work." Azolum replied to his sons before they all got back to work.
"Perhaps three against one is better odds for the great Azolum?" a decidedly feminine voice asked.
The voice belonged to a young woman who was about five feet and eight inches tall, a bit less on the tanned side than Quain, and looked to be about twenty. Like Verdant, she had deep green eyes the same shade as her mother's with that same jewel-like shine in them, though hers had a more mischievous glint. She had a kind smile as she was tying her long, pale azure blue hair into a ponytail. She wore a pale blue modest sundress that the light danced off.
"Perhaps, Lazuli. Perhaps. How is helping your mother unpack the kitchen supplies going?" Azolum asked his daughter.
"Almost done, Father. The same can't be said for my brothers, apparently." Lazuli answered simply.
Azura rolled his eyes at his older sister's words. "I would like to see you try all this heavy lifting, dear sister. It may be simpler to do with Aura, but that does not mean it doesn't add up." the scar faced young man replied.
"Perhaps you're not being determined enough? For someone being scouted by the Seven Star Blades, you seem to falter with such ease, little brother." Lazuli answered with a smirk.
Azura simply chuckled at the response along with Argent. "Mom is it okay if I go help dad and my brothers with the living room since I can't find my art stuff?" the shortest of the three boys asked his mother.
"Alright sweetie, just be careful." Verdant says with a sigh.
Argent immediately jumped to his feet enthusiastically before rushing to the living room of their part of the castle to help. As he did, the three older men chuckled at his antics. Stopping for a moment to check the checklist and make sure they had brought everything in, Azura looked out at his family with a smile. It was then that he noticed someone missing.
"Wait… not counting mother and father… one… two… three… four… we seem to be missing someone! Where is Aqua?" Azura muttered before calling out.
Argent shrugged at that. "No idea. But I'm sure she'll turn up." the youngest boy replied before starting to open a box.
"BOO!" a little girl of about six years old with fair skin in a simple blue hoodie with a turtle on the front yelled out, scaring her big brother by popping out of the box like a jack-in-the-box.
"Ha! I got you, Scaredy Argie!" the little girl cried out in glee, unable to contain her laughter as Argent was on his hands and knees clutching his racing heart. Until the box fell over, spilling her stuffed animals out onto the floor along with her.
"Don't… do that… again, Aqua…!" Argent panted out, trying desperately to calm his nerves.
"If that's how you manage an Aqua attack, then I dare not think how you'd handle a Grimm attack Argent." Quain said simply.
"Rawr!" the now named Aqua playfully roared, pretending to be a monster.
Azura chuckled at this. "Alright, if we're all done picking on Argent-"
"NEVER! TOO FUN!" Aqua shouted with determination.
"Aqua, how about you and Argent go put your boxes in your room while we manage things down here?" Azura asked his baby sister.
"Don't leave me alone with her…" Argent whispered to his big brothers and father.
"If you can't deal with her, how are you to be a Huntsman, little brother?" Quain asked.
Sighing, Argent got up and walked over to his baby sister. "Come on, Aqua. Let's get your stuff in your room." The preteen boy told the little girl.
"Come on, Argent. You don't have to be afraid. This isn't like the time with Turters." Azura told his little brother.
Argent flinched at that as Azolum rubbed his stomach in phantom pain at the memory. "Please don't bring that up again, big brother…" Argent told Azura.
"I still feel a little pain from that kick she landed on me that day…" Azolum replied with a little bit of pride and shame in his voice.
Aqua smiled innocently at this, but with an intimidating edge noticeable to these warriors. A smile that made Argent start sweating in fear.
"Well, hop to it, you two!" Azolum said, patting his youngest son on the back as they started moving the boxes.
"Very well." Quain said with a nod.
"We need to finish as much of this as possible before we finish getting ready, Father. Remember, we have to go with Mother to that meeting for my entrance exams to Signal Academy today." Azura reminded Azolum.
Azolum nodded at that. "Right. Lazuli, Quain. Are you two up for continuing to unpack while we're gone?" he asked his two eldest children.
"Of course, Father." Quain answered with a nod.
"You can count on us." Lazuli chipped in with a nod of her own.
Azolum smiled at the two and nodded with approval. "Good. Thanks again for coming back to help with the move, by the way." he said in response.
This brought smiles from the two of them as Azura looked at the time. It was at this moment that Azura looked at the newly placed clock on the wall. His eyes shot wide as he immediately became concerned when he saw the time.
"Damn! We need to hurry up and get ready if we're going to make it to the meeting!" Azura called out.
Noticing the time as well, Azolum nodded as he stood up. "Right! To the bathrooms for a shower, Azura! And make sure to put on your best robe and your armor for the physical tests!" he told his middle child son.
With that, the two men gathered up a change of clothes, a suit for Azolum and his robes, gear, and armor for Azura, before heading off to shower. When they came back, both men looked presentable. Azolum was dressed in a sharp, good looking black suit and dark blue undershirt with his daishō held in his hands, one a katana with a deep azure-blue sheath and the other a wakizashi with a lighter pale azure blue sheath. Azura, on the other hand, was dressed in some more samurai attire consisting of a black haori with a stripped hem and a robe with "Sōtora" stitched down the sides of the haori in white hiragana, held shut by a belt containing pouches over black pants held up by a black sash.
Covering this was armor from a recent age. Covering his significant form was a coal black bodysuit, giving everyone no illusion of what the Sōtora training had done to his body. As he stopped, his black leather and greaved boots stopped with, revealing their sharp point and even sharper looks. Indeed, the sharpness of attire did not end there. Blazoned across his chest was a breastplate made of hard leather scales bound together, with rivets giving it a warrior's bite. Equally, hard leather gauntlets and accompanying rivets adorned his forearms. Striking out was the scorched-on tiger head and ring of kanji, painstakingly etched in for added effect. Drapes hung from his belt and rounded hard leather pauldrons adorned his shoulders. Finally, a black cowl hung itself on his shoulders, waiting for use.
The last pieces of the young man's equipment were his weapons, which consisted of a daishō at his hip on the right side and a horseback bow on his back with a quiver of arrows. One of his daishō blades was a short ōdachi with a blade length of roughly eighty-three centimeters, making the blade nearly thirty-three inches long, the other a wakizashi with a blade length of forty centimeters, making it over fifteen and a half inches long. The sheaths of both weapons had white and black tiger stripe patterns, as well as guards and hilts with an unusual design, almost mechanical, most likely for Dust release mechanisms so essential in today's weaponry.
Azura smiled a bit nervously at his family. "How do I look?" he asked, trying to contain his nerves.
"Respectable." Lazuli answered.
"Like you're off to war." Quain chipped in.
Azura smiled proudly at that. "Then I'm ready." Azura replied, letting out a sigh of relief.
"Good to hear. We can't be late." Verdant said with a smile.
"Do you want to drive or should I, dear?" Azolum replied, going for the car keys.
"I can drive. You drove us here from the ferry." Verdant answered her husband with a smile, taking the keys from him.
"I wanna come with you! Can I, Mommy?" Aqua asked.
"Of course, honey. Don't dawdle. We are leaving now." Verdant answered.
"Yay!" Aqua replied excitedly as she quickly got ready to go.
Nodding, Azolum motioned to Azura and Aqua as the four of them headed to the family's car, a big monster of a van that was capable of transporting at least eight people. Once they got in, Azura helped Aqua into her booster seat and let her buckle herself in to show she was a big girl. He then climbed into his seat, stored his bow and quiver on the floor in front of his seat, and set his blades on his lap as he buckled up. Sliding into their seats, Azolum and Verdant also put their own seat belts on as Verdant started up the metal behemoth. The engine roared to life as the four were on their way.
As they eventually made it off the boat to a port in Patch and through the main road to Signal, the combat school came into view. Built in an incredibly old style, one most decidedly Valian, far from what the family was used to. High sweeping arches, great pains of stained glass as large as the floor plan of a house, and some of the finest alabaster marble to ever be used in construction. The whole thing, despite being made of stone, practically seemed lighter than air. More than that, it was more than just a combat school, it was a work of art.
Azura looked up at the school where he would most likely be learning from for the remainder of his days before attending an official Huntsmen Academy. "This place looks very different from our clan's Raijin Academy back in Mistral…" Azura said nervously, referring to his old academy back home.
"If there's one thing you can say about Vale, at least the buildings are pleasing to look at." Verdant said with a smile.
"Does this bring back memories from before you started at Haven, honey?" Azolum asked his wife with a smile of his own.
"Oh yes. And many I would not want to say in front of the kids." Verdant said with a giggle.
"Oh, come now, dear. It's nothing to be ashamed of." Azolum playfully replied with a chuckle.
"I'm not. But I'd prefer Azura not to hear it before his big day." Verdant answered.
"Yes, please. I'm nervous enough as it is." Azura told his parents as Aqua giggled.
The four pulled into the nearest parking area near the school and out of the car. Gathering his weapons, Azura looked nervously up at the school as the four headed in with Aqua holding her big brother's hand to not get lost. Aqua and Azura looked on in amazement as they passed the many different students in the school. There were so many people here. Azura held Aqua's hand a little tighter to make sure she did not get loose and get lost.
Making it to the headmaster's office, the four of them stopped at the secretary's desk. The man at the desk looked up from his computer at the family.
"Can I help you?" the secretary asked.
"I am Sōtora Verdant, mother of Sōtora Azura. We are here for my son's evaluation to enter your school as a student this next semester." Verdant explained simply.
Looking at the schedule on the computer, the secretary nodded. "Ah, yes. Sōtora Azura and his parents. You're just in time. Your meeting starts in exactly ten minutes. I assume you have your son's credentials?" he asked them.
Pulling them out, Azolum handed them to the secretary. "Here you go." he told the man.
Nodding, the secretary took them and stood up. "I'll take these to the headmaster, deputy headmistress, and teachers. They'll need to look them over in more detail before the meeting starts so that the evaluation can officially begin." he told the four before heading into the meeting room, shutting the door behind him.
The family took that as their sign to take a seat until the meeting started. Azura started cleaning and sharpening his blades, trying to keep his mind off how nervous he was. This did not go unnoticed by his parents.
"You're nervous, aren't you?" Verdant asked.
Azura looked up at his mother. "Is it really that obvious…?" he questioned his mother in response.
"Don't worry, son. You'll be fine." Azolum told him.
Azura nodded and tried to wait patiently. Despite this, everyone could tell he was still nervous. A fact that Aqua noticed and tried to make her big brother feel better.
The little princess decided to give her brother a big hug. "Do your best." she told him with an innocent smile.
Azura smiled at that. "Thank you, baby sister." he told the little girl in response.
After about ten minutes, the door opened, and the secretary came back out. "Mr. Sōtora, the headmaster, headmistress, and examiners will see you now." he told them.
Sighing, Azura sheathed his blades as he and his parents got up. Looking back at Aqua, they wondered what to do. They could not take her to the meeting, but the three of them all needed to be in it.
"Aqua, honey? Can we trust you to stay here and not get into trouble while we're gone?" Azolum asked his little princess.
"Okay, Daddy! I will be a good girl!" the blue haired girl smiled brightly, showing her chipped tooth.
"We have got to get that fixed one of these days." Verdant commented.
Azolum chuckled at that. "Let her keep it until her adult teeth come in, my love. It will remind her to be more careful and not get herself into trouble." he told his wife.
"Are you sure? That could be dangerous. So many health problems could arise from that." Verdant said, raising her eyebrow.
Azolum nodded. "Fair enough. We shall get it pulled on her next dentist trip." he replied.
"See you after the meeting, baby sister. Be good." Azura told Aqua with a smile while kneeling to her level.
"Okay, Azzy!" Aqua responded before giving her big brother a good luck cheek kiss.
As the three smiled, Azura stood back up and they headed into the meeting and sat down, looking directly at the headmaster, deputy headmistress, and the teachers chosen to evaluate their prospective new student. The headmaster was an elderly man with thick spectacles, surrounded by significantly younger men and women that filled out his staff. Looking directly at the headmaster, the Sōtora took their seats.
"Greetings, Headmaster Birch. Thank you for seeing us." Azolum cordially greeted the elderly huntsman.
"It is rare for a Sōtora to go outside their own combat schools, so inquiry into your son's application was warranted." the old man explained slowly.
The deputy headmistress, a woman in her mid-fifties with dirty blond hair done up in buns, nodded and addressed the couple. "Headmaster Birch is correct. However, going by your son's credentials and the recommendation he got from his various instructors as well as Sōtora Taisho, he seems to be a fine young man with a lot of potential. Should he pass the tests, we would be more than happy to have him attend our school." she added.
"We are honored for that to be the case. From everything we saw, we thought this school would be the right place for our darling son." Verdant answered with a smile and a light bow of the head.
Azura blushed a bit at his mother's words as one of the teachers, an elderly man with an impressive goatee, addressed Verdant. "Considering the fact that he is both a Sōtora and the son of one of our more successful alumni, we have lofty expectations of how he'll do in these tests. Should he pass with enough points, we may even place him in the Advanced Class." the man told them, surprising the three Sōtora a bit.
"To even have such high expectations, we are honored that our son produces that kind of effect." Verdant replied, bowing her head.
Headmaster Birch waved her off. "No need to be so formal, Verdant. After all, some of us have known you since you were a student here." the elderly man told her.
"Even still, in the presence of the most honorable headmaster of this great school, it is warranted." Verdant countered.
Headmaster Birch smiled a bit at that. "Fair enough. Now then… let the tests begin. Professor Maple, please administer the written test so that young Azura may begin." the elderly man said to a female, middle aged teacher with brown, medium length hair and brown eyes.
Nodding, Professor Maple led Azura to a nearby desk and placed a test paper down in front of him as he pulled out his writing supplies from a bag he had brought with him. "You may begin as soon as you're ready. You will have two hours to complete the test as soon as you begin." she told him.
Nodding, Azura set up his writing supplies neatly on the desk before taking out a case and putting on a pair of reading glasses. Once his supplies were placed to his liking, he turned over his test paper and began looking over the questions. Most were fairly standard for such, pertaining to various regulations and others of the back-end nature of the Huntsmen profession. Some, however, were even hard for him. Undeterred, he attacked the test with all his mental vigor.
Too many, time slowly began to drag. To Azura, he was completely engrossed. Half an hour before the time limit, Azura had completed the test and began looking over his answers. Pleased with his answers, he flipped his test paper back over and took off his reading glasses before putting them away, signaling that he was finished.
Walking over, Professor Maple picked up his test with a smile and took it to send it off for grading. Putting his supplies away in his bag, Azura smiled as he walked over to sit back with his parents.
"Next, we need to evaluate young Azura's levels of physical fitness and combat abilities. To this end, we shall be bringing in Coach Volcanus to put him through some physical tests and Doctor Pyrus to assess his combat abilities." Headmaster Birch told them before motioning for a staff member dressed like a gym coach with a head nod.
Nodding back, Coach Volcanus, a fairly tall and very physically fit middle-aged man with hair the color of cooling lava, stood up and walked to the center of the room with a clipboard in hand. Azura respectfully stood up and walked over to join him. Bowing to the teacher, Azura looked at the slightly taller man.
"Hello, Coach Volcanus, sir. What will you be having me do for these tests?" Azura asked politely.
Coach Volcanus smirked a bit at that. "Let's start with some pushups to see what you got, maggot. How about you drop and give me a hundred and fifty?" the coach told him, as if daring Azura to complain.
Surprisingly, Azura dropped without complaint. He then began counting off as he did the pushups in almost perfect form. To Coach Volcanus' shock, Azura did them all fairly easily while wearing his armor. Smirking as he jotted down something on the test sheet on his clipboard, the coach looked at him as Azura, after about half an hour, finished the last push up and stood back up.
"Alright, so you're made of tougher stuff than I expected. Guess that means I'll have to make this harder! Two hundred sit ups, kid!" Coach Volcanus belted out as Azura got to it.
After several hours, the middle-aged coach had put Azura through his pace with increasing intensity. Increasing the number of reps with each exercise in an attempt to make Azura sweat and work for passing this test. To his surprise, Azura did them all without a hint of complaint and kept going until he finished the exercises. Finally, a sweating Azura finished the last exercise as Volcanus was content and finished writing down the last of his notes and evaluations on the test paper.
"Nicely done, brat. You've definitely got the physicality to make it here. It's gonna be real fun breaking you down and building you back up if you make it in." Coach Volcanus admitted reluctantly.
Azura smiled and bowed politely. "Thank you, sir. Should I pass, I hope to meet your expectations." Azura replied.
Nodding in approval, the middle-aged combat school coach turned and went to sit back down. Taking the test paper off his clipboard, he sent it out for evaluation as a woman with hair as red as a raging inferno and light orange eyes stood up and walked over to the center of the room. With a fiery broadsword in hand, she motioned for Azura to come and face her as the other staff members all pulled out their own clipboards and pieces of paper to evaluate Azura as he faced her. Doctor Pyrus then cleared her throat as she addressed the young samurai.
"Now then, young Azura. To properly evaluate you, you need to come to me with everything you are capable of. You need to land one hit on me to pass this test. Do you understand?" the female doctor ordered sternly.
Azura nodded at that, "I understand. If you need my best, can you give me a moment to get ready?" he asked her politely.
"Very well. Spend it wisely." she answered with the same stern tone.
Nodding, Azura stripped off his Sōtora armor, including some black, studded, wrapped leather greaves over his forearms underneath his gauntlets, and gently placed it on the ground piece by piece. This revealed that, underneath it, he was wearing weighted training clothes. A vest on his torso and a set of weights on each limb. This old-fashioned training method got some raised eyebrows from the teachers.
'What good is dropping a few pounds of weight gonna-' Coach Volcanus thought as Azura removed the vest and let it drop to the floor, cracking and breaking the wooden floor on impact and surprising all of the teachers present.
'Impressive. This should prove quite interesting.' Doctor Pyrus thought, maintaining her stern visage.
As she thought this, Azura dropped the leg and arm weights one by one, each cracking the wooden floor on impact. Much less so than the vest did, but still no less impressive. Finally, having removed his weighted clothing, Azura donned his armor once more and drew his daishō blades, dropping into a stance.
"I am ready now, Doctor Pyrus. Do you want me to use my Semblance as well?" Azura politely said.
"If you feel it necessary." She answered simply, getting into a stance.
Nodding, Azura began to become surrounded by an azure, blue lightning-like aura as his eyes began to glow azure-blue, his hair starting to stand up a bit. Taking off at the combat schoolteacher, Azura was in front of her in just a moment. Having not expected the speed the young man possessed, the fiery haired woman was caught off guard and had to move quickly to block a slash from Azura's wakizashi. This surprised the other staff members greatly.
'He's fast…' Doctor Pyrus thought in slight amazement.
Azura then went for a follow up downward slash with his ōdachi, forcing her to block him with her flaming broadsword. Slashing with it, she was surprised when Azura blocked with his wakizashi and deflected her blow, pushing her back as he slashed at her face with his ōdachi. This forced her to bend back to avoid the hit. Realizing that she underestimated this young man, Pyrus smiled a bit.
"Not off to a bad start, young Mr. Sōtora." She said, shaking off a hint of her stony tone.
Azura smiled at the praise. "Thank you, ma'am. I had hoped to start this match off slower to avoid tiring myself out faster, but I can see that was a mistake. I'll need to go more seriously if I want to pass this test." He replied to the teacher, surprising everyone present but his smiling parents.
'He's holding back…?' They all thought in shock.
Leaping back, Azura dropped back into his stance as his face became set in a look of slight concentration and his appearance began to change more. His hair began standing increasingly on end as his lightning aura became more intense and changed from azure-blue to cobalt, then to sapphire. His glowing blue eyes also began to change, slowly shifting from azure to sapphire as well. Taking off with much greater speed than before, Azura surprised Pyrus as he showed up in front of her as a sapphire blue blur.
'Time to step up the difficulty.' She thought.
Blocking a strike from Azura, she deflected his ōdachi and swung down at him with an overhead chop of her flaming broadsword. However, Azura blocked with his wakizashi and deflected the fiery blade to the side before slashing with his ōdachi. Dodging, Pyrus smiled a bit more as she swung diagonally with her blade in an attempt to cut Azura. However, he blocked with his ōdachi and rushed in close, slashing at her head with his wakizashi.
Barely evading the cut, she kicked at Azura to knock him back only for the kick to be blocked by his leather bracers, lessening the impact greatly. Pushing her foot off from him to throw her off balance, Azura stabbed at her torso with his wakizashi, forcing her to jump back to avoid its reach. However, this was simply a feint as Azura swung with his ōdachi, aiming for the side of her head. Quickly bringing up her broadsword, she blocked Azura's sword swing and deflected it.
However, Azura spun on his heel with the deflection and slashed at her opposite side, forcing her to switch sides and block again. Azura then slid his ōdachi blade up the blade of her broadsword, causing sparks and embers to dance off their two blades as he got in close. The azure samurai then deflected her blade stabbed towards her face with his ōdachi, forcing her to dodge. However, she dodged right into a mawashi giri roundhouse kick that Azura used to hit her in her unprotected side, sending her sliding a bit as she and the other teachers all looked at Azura in shock.
"Quite the maneuver, Azura." The teacher answered.
Azura smiled and bowed as he deactivated his Semblance. "Thank you, ma'am. No one ever expects a swordsman to use kicks or other forms of martial arts, so I've been trying to incorporate it into my fighting style to keep my opponents on their toes." He explained, sheathing his blades.
"Quite the approach, but clearly effective." She answered with a nod of approval.
The test was over, she sheathed her broadsword and motioned for Azura to collect his weighted clothing and return to his seat. Removing his armor, Azura put his weighted clothing back on before he started to put on his armor once again. Going back to sitting with his parents, the young samurai and his parents sat in silence as the teachers talked amongst themselves. After about twenty minutes, the teachers ceased their conversation as Headmaster Birch addressed the three.
"We will evaluate the results and schedule another meeting with you in a week's time. By then, you will know whether young Azura passed and, if he did, what class he will be placed in." Headmaster Birch told them.
"Thank you so much for having us." Verdant answered happily.
Azolum nodded in agreement with his wife. "You honor us by having us and our son in the hallowed halls of this school." He told them.
Headmaster Birch smiled at this. "The honor is all ours. Now then, since our business in this meeting is complete, I think it is best if we all take our leave. We will get back to you with the results of Azura's tests within a week's time." The aged huntsman told them.
Bowing, the three stood up and excused themselves, leaving the room. However, when they stepped out into the waiting area, they saw something that concerned them. Aqua was not in her seat, nor was she anywhere in sight. Turning to the secretary, they saw him hard at work.
"Where is Aqua?" Verdant asked in both a confused and concerned tone.
"She said about twenty minutes ago that she needed to use the bathroom. I directed her down the hall to it." The secretary replied, motioning down the hall towards where the restroom was located.
"That's odd. She's never that slow." Azolum said with concern.
"Well, it is time for some turtle hunting, I guess. Come along, Azura." Verdant answered with a sigh.
Azura nodded at that. "Yes, Mother. I suggest we split up and look for her." Azura replied.
"Let's not. Those that work here can attest this place has a way of making those intimate with this place lost. Only Headmaster Birch doesn't get lost here." Verdant explained.
With that, the family began their search. They looked high and low for their family's little princess, trying to find her. However, after ten minutes of searching, they had no luck.
Meanwhile, with Aqua, she was hopelessly lost in the campus. She had no idea where the room where Azura was taking his tests was and no idea how to get back. However, she did not mind all that much. This was kind of an adventure in and of itself and gave her an excuse to explore.
Smiling as she looked around the campus while she had her little adventure, she saw students of all shapes and sizes with all kinds of weapons. So many different big kids that were around, all of them different from Big Brother Azzy and Big Brother Argie. It made her look forward to the day she got to go to Signal, too. However, her expedition adventure through Signal was cut off when she accidentally bumped into someone, knocking her on her cute little rear as she yelped.
"Sorry about that! Wasn't looking where I was… wait, why is a little kid here?" A pretty, young female voice said in surprise.
Looking up, Aqua was surprised by what she saw. Standing in front of her was a very pretty big girl with bright golden blonde hair with a cowlick sticking out at the top. She was also fair skinned with lilac eyes. She wore her hair loose, letting it flow freely down her back. She was fairly tall, but not as tall as Big Brother Azzy.
She wore a tan jacket that bared her midriff with golden brown piping and short, puffy sleeves with black cuffs that featured two golden buttons. Underneath this, she wore a low-cut yellow crop top with an emblem of some kind on the left breast in black. She also wore a brown belt covered by a pleated brown piece of material reaching from hip to hip around the back of her waist. Underneath this was a long, white, asymmetrical piece of material reaching her knees on the right side, as well as a pair of black mini shorts.
She wore a pair of brown, knee-high boots and orange, over-the-knee socks, with the right sock pushed down to just below the knee. A gray bandanna was tied around her left knee. An orange infinity scarf and black fingerless gloves completed her outfit. But the thing that stood out most to little Aqua was her… chest area.
"You're super pretty and your boobies are bigger than my big sister's." Aqua rudely complimented the girl.
The young woman was surprised but smiled at the little girl. "Thanks for noticing kid. The name's Yang. What's yours?" The girl, now identified as Yang, replied.
The little girl smiled and puffed out her chest. "My name is Sōtora Aqua! My big brother Azzy is getting in today!" Aqua proudly proclaimed.
"Oh really? How old is he?" The big, bosomed blonde asked, genuinely curious.
"He's this many, Pretty Boob Lady!" The blue-haired little girl replied, putting up all ten fingers before lowering four, indicating that her brother was sixteen.
Yang was surprised. "He's my age, huh? Is he only just applying today or is he transferring from another combat school?" she asked.
"He's applying today to get in for a later class!" Aqua replied excitedly.
Yang smiled at that. "Who knows? Maybe he'll be good enough to get into my class." Yang suggested.
Aqua smiled brightly at that. "He will! Azzy's super, duper strong!" She proclaimed with absolute certainty.
Yang giggled at this little blue ball of sunshine. "Then I look forward to meeting him." The blonde brick shithouse replied.
"Am I gonna grow like you, Pretty Boobie Lady?" Aqua asked innocently, staring at Yang's "twins."
Yang chuckled at that. "Maybe. If you eat healthy and drink plenty of milk." She told her playfully.
Aqua got excited at that. "Then I'm gonna get started as soon as I get home! Do you wanna be my big brother's girlfriend?" She quipped up.
Yang was surprised at how forward this little kid was but chuckled at that. "Maybe, kiddo. We'll see." She replied.
Aqua gave the puppy dog eyes. "Please. I want you as another big sis." She pleaded.
Yang simply smirked at the attempt. "Nice try, kid. I have a baby sister too. I've built up an immunity." She replied, breaking the news to the little girl.
"I want a pretty, big boobied big sister…" Aqua pouted, making Yang suppress a laugh.
"Yang where are you… Oh there you are." A tall, blonde haired and well-muscled man said as he rounded a corner.
Yang flinched and looked at the man. "Oh, hey Dad. Thought I lost you…" She replied, hiding disappointment.
"I thought so too. Don't run off like that, Yang." Her father answered.
"Hi, Pretty Boobie Lady's Daddy! I'm Aqua!" The blue haired girl happily greeted the man.
"Yang, where did you find this child, and where do we return her?" The man asked, giving his daughter a stern look.
Yang flinched at the look. "I met her here and we just started talking. I dunno where she came from." The blonde bombshell admitted.
"Excuse me! I said hello! Mommy and Daddy say it rude to not say hello back!" She replied in annoyance.
"I'm sorry. Hello, Aqua." The man answered.
Aqua smiled at that. "That's better. What's your name, Big Boobie Lady's Daddy?" She asked him bluntly.
"I am Taiyang Xiao Long, and please stop calling my daughter that." The man answered sternly.
"Why?" Aqua asked curiously.
"It is not polite. Your mommy and daddy did teach you to be polite, right?" Taiyang asked.
"I'm sorry." Aqua said in response, seeming genuinely remorseful.
"Apology accepted. Now where is your family?" Taiyang asked.
"Mommy, Daddy, and Big Brother Azzy are seeing the Headmustard!" She proclaimed.
The two raised an eyebrow at that. "You mean the 'Headmaster'?" Yang asked.
Aqua nodded at that. "Yeah, that! Azzy's taking tests to get in!" Aqua told them.
"I see. Where are your parents?" Taiyang asked the tiny child.
"With Azzy while he's taking his tests. My big brother's super, duper, duper strong, so he's gonna get in." Aqua replied confidently.
"Alright. Now let's get you back to your family." Taiyang explained simply.
Aqua nodded at that. "Okay!" She replied happily.
With that, the three began to walk back to the office. As they did, Aqua reached up and took Yang's hand, surprising the young blonde woman. Looking down at her, Yang saw the little girl smile up at her, bringing a smile to her own face. Soon, they started hearing someone calling out.
"Aqua!" A masculine voice called out.
"Aqua! Where are you, princess!?" A deeper masculine voice called out.
"If you can hear us, follow our voices sweetie!" A more feminine voice called out.
Aqua got excited at that. "That's Azzy, Daddy, and Mommy!" She told the father-daughter duo.
"Perfect. Let's get you back to them." Taiyang said as the three followed their voices.
Once they reached them, the two were surprised at what they saw. They saw a very tall, muscular middle-aged man with azure eyes and royal azure blue hair in a dark blue suit, a slightly short, silver fox of a woman in a green suit, and a tall young man clearly around Yang's age in a black bodysuit and armor. As soon as Yang's eyes landed on the young man, her eyes widened in shock as she looked him over. However, that shock as she whistled in appreciation at the sight of him.
'Damn…!' Yang thought, trying not to eye the tall young man her age like a piece of meat.
It was then that Aqua let go of the distracted Yang's voice and ran over to her family. "Daddy, Mommy, Azzy! Here I am!" She called out, drawing her family's attention.
"By the gods honey, you scared us!" Verdant yelled, running up and hugging her daughter.
"Are you okay? You are not hurt, are you?" Azolum said, concern visible in his voice.
Aqua smiled in response. "I'm fine! I met a nice man and his big boobied pretty daughter and they helped me find you all!" She told them happily.
Azura sternly looked at his little sister. "Aqua, that is not nice! Don't be… rude…?" Azura began chiding his baby sis only to trail off as he looked up and saw the pair in question, his eyes lingering on the young blonde woman among the two.
Looking her up and down, Azura had one thought. 'Wow…' He mentally commented, dumbfounded by the beautiful golden-haired girl.
Yang, seeing the look he was giving her, smiled, and playfully winked at the attractive young man checking her out. This made Azura blush lightly and look down shyly. Taiyang, noticing this, "casually" stood between them as he and Yang approached, much to his daughter's annoyance at her dad blocking her view. Once they reached the family, Taiyang addressed Aqua's parents.
"I'm sorry for all the trouble. My name is Taiyang Xiao Long, and this is my daughter Yang Xiao Long." Taiyang said, trying to smooth things over.
"It's quite alright. I can't thank you enough for finding our daughter." Azolum answered the man with a smile.
"Sōtora Aquamarine, what have we told you time and time again about running off by yourself on some fanciful adventure!?" Verdant yelled, staring down at her daughter.
"I'm sorry, Mommy. Am I in trouble?" Aqua replied remorsefully.
"Yes, you are. There will be no more TV for you today." Verdant answered sharply.
"But I had to go potty…" Aqua tried to explain.
"You should've gone before we left." Azura replied as sternly as he could with a light blush still on his face.
"I didn't have to go before we left." Aqua replied simply.
"I am so sorry for any trouble she caused you. I am Sōtora Azolum, this is my wife Sōtora Verdant and my son and soon to be Huntsman-in-Training Sōtora Azura." Azolum explained, motioning to his family.
Verdant bowed to the two. "Pleased to meet you both." She said with a smile.
Azura, a blush still on his face, bowed politely and addressed the beautiful blonde and her father. "I-It's a pleasure to meet you…" Azura nervously told them in response.
Yang smirked as she purposely looked the young man in the eyes. "Believe me, the pleasure is all mine…" Yang replied playfully, making Azura blush a bit more.
Elbowing her in the arm to keep her in line, Taiyang then addressed the family. "It is an honor for us to meet you two, and I hope our children have a wonderful time getting to know each other in their classes."
"Oh, I'm really looking forward to getting to know him personally…" Yang playfully said.
"Yang." Taiyang sternly growled lightly at her.
"What, Dad? He's a good-looking guy. Plus, if his baby sister's confidence in him is anything to go by, he's probably really strong too on top of seeming so nice and sweet." Yang bluntly replied.
"Not in front of strangers!" Taiyang growled.
Azura blushed deeper at the comments from the incredibly attractive blonde girl. "I-I-It's okay. I-I don't mind…" He nervously responded.
"I apologize for my daughter's rude behavior. She's not used to being in front of esteemed warrior clan members." Tai apologized to the samurai family.
"It is quite all right, Taiyang. All is forgiven. In fact, your daughter's interest in my son is quite pleasing. Our clan is always on the lookout for strong and talented partners." Azolum answered with a charming smile that only an aristocrat like him could pull out.
Taiyang elbowed Yang to make her respond as politely as she could to the compliment. "Thank you. I appreciate the compliment, Lord Azolum." Yang told him, trying desperately to be polite now that she knew she was in front of someone important.
"Just Azolum please, my dear." Azolum said, waving off formality with a shocking level of regal grace.
Azura, having composed himself just enough to be calm, smiled and addressed Yang. "I-I thank you for your compliments, Lady Xiao Long. S-Such high praise from such a clearly strong, bold, and beautiful woman is always appreciated…" Azura replied more humbly than his father.
Yang blushed ever so slightly at the unexpected compliment but smiled at the praise. The words of the aristocratic and noble warrior were doing wonders on appealing to her ego. Especially the fact he clearly found her attractive as well. She could have some fun teasing him later.
"Well then, you certainly like to 'cut to the chase,' don't you Mr. Samurai?" Yang said with a grin.
"Yang. Behave." Tai snapped sharply at his daughter's antics.
To his and Yang's surprise, they heard a chuckle. Looking at the source, they saw Azura with an amused smile, chuckling at her pun. Not a forced, pitiful laugh, but a genuine chuckle.
"Did he just…" Tai asked, stunned at what he was seeing.
"Laugh at my pun? Like… genuinely laugh at it…?" Yang finished in disbelief.
Azura blushed ever so slightly at being caught and rubbed the back of his head nervously.
"Azzy likes puns! He's definitely 'pun of a kind'!" Aqua announced with a smile.
To the surprise of the father and daughter duo, Azura chuckled again at the joke made by his little sister and put his hand out for a low five. One that Aqua very quickly reciprocated.
"Is everything alright, Azura?" Tai asked.
Azura raised an eyebrow at this. "Why wouldn't they be, Lord Xiao Long?" he asked, genuinely confused.
"It's just… we've never really met anyone besides us who genuinely likes puns and dad jokes. Even my little sister isn't a fan of them." Yang replied, still processing what just happened.
Azura was genuinely surprised by this. "Really? Well, Aqua and I love puns and dad jokes. In fact, those are some of our favorite forms of humor." Azura casually said, not understanding their confusion.
"Lady Yang, I do have to thank you greatly. It's always nice to hear Azura laugh. He rarely does it anymore, even in private." Verdant smiled, unfurling her fan to cool herself a bit.
"So, you're strong… you're handsome… and you love puns and dad jokes?" Yang asked Azura in disbelief.
Azura blushed a bit and rubbed the back of his head nervously. "W-Well… yes…" He replied to her a bit shyly.
Yang grinned happily at this. "Where the hell have you been all my life!?" She questioned him in joy.
"Fate has a weird way of keeping people separated, only to be found in the strangest of times." Azolum said with a cryptic smirk and tone.
"Then I guess you could say our 'fates are sealed'!" Yang replied with a giggle, making Azura chuckle.
"You may now kiss the bride!" Aqua replied happily, making her big brother and Yang blush a bit.
"Aqua. Down girl." Azolum said simply, tapping her shoulder lightly to reinforce the point.
Aqua pouted at that. "Yes, daddy…" She replied with a sigh.
"I-I apologize for my little sister, Lady Xiao Long. She's… a little on the wild side." Azura replied nervously.
"I guess you could say that being her older sibling is a 'wild ride,' huh Azura?" Yang asked with a playful grin.
Azura simply chuckled at her new pun. "I suppose so…" Azura replied with a smile.
"As long as no 'wild rides' happen around these parts, then there ain't going to be no problems with me." Taiyang said, giving Azura a hint.
"Of course, Lord Xiao Long. I wouldn't dream of it…" Azura replied politely.
"I'd dream of it all day and night…" Yang muttered with a grin.
Having heard that, Azura blushed lightly and looked at Yang in surprise. In response, Yang smiled playfully and winked, making Azura's blush deepen.
"W-Well, we should be going. It was a pleasure meeting you all." Azura nervously told the pair, bowing politely to them.
"It was an honor to meet you as well." Taiyang answered.
"See you later, Azura." Yang said a bit flirtatiously, earning her an elbow nudge to the side from her father.
Blushing a bit, Azura smiled shyly. "U-Until then, Lady Xiao Long." He replied as the two blondes bowed respectfully to them.
As the samurai family bowed to the duo of blondes, they then politely took their leave. As they walked off, Azura picked Aqua up and put her on his shoulder to carry her to the car. As soon as they made it to the metal beast that was their van, they all buckled up and prepared to leave. Verdant then turned over the engine as the family sped off towards the ferry back to the mainland.
