Chapter 2: Being in a Human House
“Well, no problem. We can go to my house now. For the time being, stay at my house. Or if you want to stay somewhere else and I don't think you have the money to pay for the rent,” said Henry, he then stretched out his hand to the young mermaid who still didn't want to tell him her name.
The young mermaid with beautiful blue eyes accepted Henry's outstretched hand. Then she stood up and began to align herself with the man who had helped her.
“Alright, I agree to stay at your house. Take me there,” said the young mermaid in a low voice.
Henry nodded, then he invited the young mermaid to walk together. Unfortunately, in just a few steps, the young mermaid was already in pain. As a result she could not continue walking.
“What's wrong with you? Can't you walk normally like a human,” Henry said to the young mermaid who fell down.
“It really hurts. It felt like my feet were being pricked by thousands of thorns. I didn't used to walk before, this is the first time I've done it,” said the young mermaid in a voice that sounded like she was wincing in pain.
Henry noticed the condition of the young mermaid. She was already panting while occasionally grimacing. It seemed impossible that she could continue walking. Henry nodded, then stood up and began to lift the young mermaid's body.
“You just calm down. Don't move much, I'll take you to my house,” Henry said, he told the young mermaid to stay still in his arms.
The young mermaid didn't react anything other than just looking into Henry's eyes. The man who carried her, now walking into the car. Before long, Henry started the car and drove onto the highway.
They drove to Henry's house which was on the edge of the Calynia city. The edge of the Calynia city is not far from Victory beach. Henry's drove his car only twenty minutes. Now they had arrived in front of a yellow fence. Henry immediately stopped his car and got out of the car.
He brought out a young mermaid who couldn't walk even though she already had a pair of legs. Henry picked her up and took the young mermaid into his house. Arriving inside, Henry took the young mermaid to the kitchen.
“I hope you can tell me who you are and how you got stranded,” Henry said as he lowered the young mermaid to place her on a wooden chair.
Henry looked into the young mermaid's eyes. For a moment he felt stunned because of the beauty of the blue color that looked different in the eyes of the young mermaid.
But that didn't last long, Henry shook his head and swallowed hard. He immediately turned around and opened the refrigerator to get orange juice that could be drunk for both of them.
“You can call me Carla, my surname is Cean when I'm in mermaid form. We live side by side with other mermaid clans, even water creatures such as dolphins and turtles we can be friends with,” said the young mermaid introducing her name and origins.
“Is it true? It sounds like it would be fun to live in a different world from the mainland. The town I live in isn't that nice,” Henry said, he placed two glasses of orange juice on the kitchen table.
Henry then sat next to Carla, the young mermaid he had helped. While drinking orange juice, his gaze fell on the figure of a woman with blue eyes that seemed to sparkle like the sea.
“Our life is fun. We help each other, and play. We spend our days caring for coral reefs and having fun in the lagoon,” said Carla, she continued her words to explain how she lived before on the high seas.
“Sounds fun. On land, all we know is working to survive. Occasionally we take a day off to rest our minds and bodies,” Henry said, his voice sounded flat when he described his life in the city.
“Is that so? I never knew the human world before. So I can't imagine what life would be like on land,” said Carla, she directed her gaze at Henry.
“So, if your life is that fun, why did you end up on the coast?” said Henry, he put down the glass of orange juice that was half remaining.
Carla and Henry looked at each other. Their eyes met, even though Carla didn't feel any attraction to Henry. Even though he was the man who had helped her get away from the coast.
“I went to the lagoon, and found a pirate ship coming. The battle between mermaids and pirates cannot be avoided. The ocean started raging, and I was hit by the waves until I was unconscious on the beach sand,” said Carla, she explained what had happened to her this time.
“Sounds scary. So what about that fight, who won it? What about the conditions of both parties, of course you defend your group,” said Henry, he directed his gaze at Carla in wonder.
“They are lose. Some of my friends also didn't seem to survive the fight that took place in our lagoon. The pirates continued to fight us, until the waves hit me on the rocks, and my vision blurred and what I realized was that I was already on the beach,” Carla said, she explained what brought her to the human world.
Henry fell silent when he heard Carla's explanation. His gaze fell on the woman next to him who was the embodiment of a mermaid. Henry tried to understand what Carla was saying, but all he felt was an empty feeling without meaning.
“I want to return to the open sea. But I realize it will take quite a while. Not to mention what the pirates have stolen from us. Of course I need better power than I have now,” said Carla, she lowered her voice in front of Henry.
“So you want to take back what was taken from your group?” said Henry, he raised his eyebrows because he was a little curious.
