Scent of Desire: The Lustful Path

Chapter 10: The Heir

"How dare the Zhao Clan even think about hurting our Clan Heir, and on top of that, destroying his cultivation! Matriarch Lin, we cannot stand idly by and watch. If we do, what dignity will remain for our Lin Clan in the eyes of the people of Red Leaf City?" Lin Yongtai's voice echoed through the council hall, sharp and laden with righteous fury.

The man was a middle-aged figure with striking features that bore a faint resemblance to Lin Fang. Yet, his well-groomed mustache and the stern, mature lines on his face set him apart. Lin Yongtai was Lin Fang's second uncle, one of three brothers in the previous generation of the Lin Clan.

Lin Fang's late father, Lin Heng, had been the eldest among them, but familial harmony had always been elusive. Lin Yongtai and the youngest brother, Lin Xiaobo, had never gotten along with Lin Heng. The reason was simple: the coveted position of family head had always loomed as a barrier between them.

Seated at the head of the council table, Matriarch Lin Yanxi listened in silence. Her sharp, phoenix-like eyes swept over the gathered elders and family heads. Their expressions ranged from simmering anger to silent concern. She tapped her fingers lightly on the armrest of her chair, her calm demeanor a stark contrast to the heated words filling the room.

"Second Brother," Lin Mei, seated beside Matriarch Lin, finally spoke. Her tone was gentle but firm, an undercurrent of authority woven into her words. "Do you think the Zhao Clan acted alone in this matter? Or have you forgotten how deeply they are entwined with the other major families in Red Leaf City? Moving against them recklessly would not only put us in danger but could also lead to our ruin."

Lin Yongtai clenched his fists, his frustration evident. "So what? Are we just supposed to swallow this humiliation? Watch as the Zhao Clan flaunts their power while our Clan Heir lies in ruin?"

A tense silence followed. The gathered elders exchanged uneasy glances, their loyalty to the Lin Clan warring with the cold reality of their precarious position.

Matriarch Lin's voice broke the silence, calm but commanding. "Do not think for a moment that I will allow the Zhao Clan's actions to go unanswered. But we must be wise, not rash. The dignity of the Lin Clan is not something they can strip from us with one cruel act. However, if we act without careful planning, we risk losing far more than our dignity."

Her words hung heavy in the air, silencing even Lin Yongtai's retort.

Lin Yongtai settled back into his seat, his expression cold as his gaze shifted to Matriarch Lin Yanxi. Despite the severity of her son's condition, her face remained calm, devoid of any visible anger or grief. Frustration simmered beneath Lin Yongtai's composed exterior, but he forced himself to sit, his posture rigid and unyielding.

Another elder rose, his white beard trembling with indignation as he spoke, "I understand your caution, Matriarch Lin, but we cannot ignore the insult dealt to our family. Reputation is everything to the Lin Clan. We must demand compensation!"

Before Matriarch Lin could reply, Lin Mei's calm, sharp voice rang out. "This mess was created by Lin Fang. It is only fitting that he handles it himself."

Her words were like a thunderclap in the council hall. Shock rippled through the gathered elders and heads of the family. Whispers erupted, disbelief and outrage coloring their tones. The elder who had spoken earlier slammed his hand on the table, his face flushed with fury.

"What do you mean by that, Mistress Mei?" he demanded, his voice rising. "How could you suggest such a thing? Lin Fang's dantian is shattered, his cultivation gone! Even if he were whole, burdening him with this responsibility in his current state is unthinkable. Are you saying that the Zhao Clan's actions are his fault?"

The room erupted into chaos as others stood, their voices overlapping in a cacophony of protests and accusations. Some barked at Lin Mei for her seemingly callous suggestion, while others argued heatedly over the implications of holding Lin Fang accountable. The council hall, once orderly, descended into an uproar of opinions and emotions.

Amid the commotion, Lin Mei remained serene, her expression unyielding. Lin Yanxi, too, showed no signs of being swayed by the outburst. Her piercing gaze swept over the room, her silence carrying more weight than any shouted argument.

The resounding clap echoed through the council hall, silencing the heated arguments and drawing everyone's attention to the source of the sound. Heads turned toward the entrance, where a young man stood, his figure bathed in the golden light streaming through the doorway. Lin Fang had arrived.

The elders and clan members stared in shock. Though they were familiar with Lin Fang, the young man before them seemed like a stranger—a striking figure whose mere presence demanded attention. His once-boyish charm had transformed into something sharper, darker, and far more alluring. It wasn't just his appearance; it was the aura he carried, an inexplicable blend of grace, power, and danger.

Lin Mei and Lin Yanxi's eyes widened in unison as they took in his new visage. A warmth stirred within their hearts, one that they immediately recognized as unnatural. When Lin Fang's gaze flickered toward them, his smile faintly playful, both women felt an inexplicable pang of desire.

Their breaths hitched as intrusive thoughts crept into their minds—thoughts they would have deemed impossible before, now carving their way into the forbidden corners of their consciousness.

Lin Fang strolled into the council hall, his strides confident and unhurried, the rhythmic clapping of his hands punctuating his words. "Hahaha! What is this? A circus?" His voice carried a teasing lilt, his smile both disarming and taunting. "Why are you all shouting so loudly? The servants outside must be getting a free show. Did your parents forget to teach you how to behave civilly? Perhaps you should take notes from my mothers."

His words struck like lightning, leaving a stunned silence in their wake. The elders, who had moments ago been roaring with indignation, now found themselves caught off guard. Lin Fang's presence was unlike anything they had encountered before. His smile carried an edge of mischief, but his gaze bore into them with a weight that made them feel as though they were being judged.

Lin Yongtai's brow furrowed, his mustache twitching as he stood. "Lin Fang," he began cautiously, "this is a council meeting. Show respect."

Lin Fang tilted his head, the playful glint in his eyes deepening. "Respect? Of course, Second Uncle. I respect this council enough to offer a little advice—perhaps a lesson in decorum." His voice softened, laced with an undertone that sent shivers down their spines. "After all, isn't that what a proper heir should do?"

His words, though mild, carried a veiled challenge that left the room in uneasy silence. Lin Yanxi and Lin Mei exchanged a glance, their expressions unreadable as they tried to suppress the turmoil brewing within.
