Chapter 30: Always Be Prepared
Stev trembled as he stumbled back a few steps.
'Why was this crazy f*cker here'.
Tessei stepped in the memory hall his cold aura slowly spreading through the space.
Kai and Sunny trembled Kai out of fear and Sunny from the sudden temperature change.
Isaac seems to be the only one who was either not affected by fear or the cold originating from Tessei.
Tessei moved his gaze as it slowly encompassed Kai, Sunny, and finally Isaac.
Unbeknown to the rest when his gaze landed upon Isaac, his pupils constricted for a moment before returning to normal.
His voice rang out with cold authority and madness.
"Out".
That was the only thing he said.
He didn't need to point out specifically who he was speaking to as the three within the memory hall already knew it was them.
Isaac began to slowly walk towards the entrance.
This caused Stev, Sunny, and Kai to look at him.
Isaac turned around to look at Sunny before signaling him to follow.
He then turned his gaze towards Tessei before looking away.
He never once glanced at Stev.
Sunny stumbled before following came up the stairs.
Kai also began to leave but before moving completely through the two doors he gave Stev a concerned look.
As they all left Tessei closed the door.
The three didn't speak until they reached the gates.
They turned to each other and an invisible question lingered in the air.
"What do think will happen to him?".
Sunny asked his voice curious yet it seemed behind all that curiosity that he knew what would happen.
Kai's face twisted.
He could only hope that Stev had not gone into any trouble.
Tessei is known for his madness and cruelty his ferocious personality never made him one to show mercy.
Isaac stayed quiet, seemingly indifferent to what it happened a few moments ago.
It didn't take long for the moment to sour.
"We should go".
Isaac spoke his voice reverberating with a sense of detachment.
His face was neutral.
As they all began to slowly separate, there were still some things that needed to be done.
Within the hall of memories, two people stood.
The ferocious Tessei his face cold but his eyes held a deep fury.
The other was a trembling Stev his rather big body juggled as he shivered.
The silence consumed the hall of memories.
Then a voice spoke.
"F*ck".
A curse came out from Tessei's mouth.
His expression went from cold to one of furious rage which made Stev tremble even more.
'That bastard'.
Unbeknownst to Stev he wasn't the point of Tessei fury, but a certain man called Isaac.
Around a year ago, one of his men came to his base of operation with a mysterious man trailing him.
When he looked at his hunter he saw that he was trembling. His face was also not normal.
One side of his face was swelled up and purple.
His fingers seem to be pointing in different directions all of them unnatural.
One of his eyes was shut, but he could see a weird liquid leaking from it.
It was clear that he had been beaten to the point of becoming a walking "corpse".
He had been enraged, and without a second thought, immediately lunged at the man behind his hunter.
Little did he know that would've been the biggest mistake of his life.
At first, the man kept dodging his attacks.
Every time one of his hunters would try to join the fight there would either be backhand away, smashing into the wall.
Or would immediately kill them, crushing their heads under his foot without even a hint of hesitation.
He had commanded his hunters not to join the fight, and instead, he released his dormant ability.
This caused the air and surrounding to immediately drop in temperature.
Normally, this would slow down others, giving him an advantage over them.
But it was utterly useless against the monster in front of him.
Tessei only blinked, and the man was in front of him.
His deep, gray eyes peered down at his cold blue ones.
The man's pale muscular hand wrapped around his neck before raising him in the air.
Tessei tried to summon memories to cut off the man's hand, but he only grabbed his hand and violently bent it at an unnatural angle.
Tessei stop this train of thought.
The man plagued him in his nightmares every time he tried to sleep.
His cold deep gray eyes gaze at him with indifference.
The way he easily killed his hunters and beat them to the point that he couldn't even move a finger devastated Tessei's pride.
But the man didn't kill him instead he made him sign a contract.
This contract gave the man complete and under control over Tessei.
From this Tessei thought he would immediately attack the Bright Lord and take over the castle.
But to Tessei's surprise and horror, he went after the other commanders.
His insidious and terrifying nature was evident and he exploited the greed of the other commanders was truly terrifying.
Yet even as he eroded the authority of the Bright Lord never fought him directly.
He had also commanded them to act as normal.
In truth, this was the first order he had ever given to Tessei.
Of course, even under the contract that seems to weirdly be able to truly affect them if they try to break it had begun to find ways to influence others making the restrictions of the contract invalid.
Yet every time the man always knew about it and would beat them senseless without even speaking or even letting out noise once.
He would also make sure to be all of them in the same room while they were all watching making all of them submit to him.
Tessei trembled.
He then moved his gaze back towards Stev.
The comedically large man "shrank" under his gaze.
Then he spoke with a cold and emotionless tone.
"Give me all your memories".
This made Stev freeze.
"M-May I cask why ".
Tessei's gaze turned colder as he began to crack his knuckles.
Stev tremble.
He did not know what he did to incur the wrath of the head of the hunters but knowing how crazy he was, he didn't want to provoke him any longer.
But at the same time, he couldn't give away all his memories.
That would make him lose a lot of "money".
Yet Stev was unlucky.
This time he couldn't say no...
In a place outside the castle walls near the gate, Sunny stood there in anticipation.
Isaac had told him to go there to meet one of his "friends".
Sunny at first was reluctant but Isaac promised to give him any of his future memories he abstained from the Forgotten Shore.
Sunny verified he was telling the truth with Kai.
Sunny was ecstatic!
He was gonna get a bunch of memories.
He could finally upgrade Saint.
Currently, she is an Ascended Monster.
He had already fed her one hundred memories which elevated her Rank.
After finding this out Sunny wanted to hunt so much more.
Saint needed one hundred and eighty-seven memories of the Ascended Rank to reach Transcendence.
There was one issue.
How could he obtain so many Ascended memories if most monsters he could barely take on were Awakened?
Sunny sighed self self-depreciatingly.
'Why can't [Fated] do one good thing for me'.
Sunny peaked at his Runes.
Name: Sunny
True Name: Lost from Light
Rank: Dormant
Class: Monster
Shadow Cores: [2/7]
Shadow Fragments: [23/2000]
Tsk.
He was still far from attaining his third core.
He once thought that attaining a thousand shadow fragments would elevate his Rank.
Who knew that a human could also rise in Class?
Yet Sunny knew it was abnormal.
After looking over his Runes he concluded.
Only divine Aspect humans rose in Class.
Of course, he couldn't fully say that was the case but it was a high possibility.
The only difference between him and other Sleepers was their Aspect Ranks.
Sunny was jolted out of his stupor as his surroundings suddenly turned cold.
Extending his shadow sense he felt a humanoid shadow make its way towards him.
He then sent his shadow to look at the approaching caster.
After verifying his shadow was hidden he connected to its senses.
Sunny froze.
The caster of the shadow was familiar.
It was the head of the hunters Tessei.
'Why is this bastard here'.
Sunny panicked.
Then he froze.
'No way, don't tell me'.
Was Tessei Isaac's friend?
Isaac was friends with the head of hunters.
Sunny felt a cold shiver run up his spine.
Why is it that Isaac became more mysterious as time went on?
This was too much.
He was apparently [Fated] but he was never as cool or mysterious as Isaac.
Good looks...friends in high places...cool and mysterious.
Sunny's thoughts darkened.
'All pretty bastards should die'.
"Hey kid are you-".
Sunny interrupted his voice filled with fury.
"Son of a b*tch who you calling kid you-".
Sunny voice slowly lessened as his gaze landed on the origin of the insult.
He then paled.
'F*ck you [Fated]...'.

Deep within a dilapidated temple.
"When's Dufus coming back".
A rather tall and attractive young woman said.
She had hazel eyes and beautiful brown hair that fell messily.
Her build is extremely athletic, with perfect lean muscles rolling under the dewy olive skin which was laced with sweat.
She lay in the arms of a rather attractive young man.
"It shouldn't take long".
The young man replied indifferently.
His right hand caressed her back.
After a while, the man spoke again.
"We should clean ourselves up before he comes back".
He tried getting up only to stop as a hand pressed down on his chest.
"Just a little more".
The young woman pleaded.
Her hands moved around the man's soft but firm chest and musclier abdomen.
"Effie we talked about this".
The young man spoke his voice soft yet neutral.
He turned his head to the now-named Effie and kissed her on the forehead.
"Fine Isaac but you owe me".
The young man now identified as Isaac sighed.
A small smile formed on his lips before vanishing the next moment.
Isaac began to clean himself with the water he had collected from the night.
He and Effie had gotten into a "relationship" if you could even call it one.
It was more of a friends-with-benefits situation.
At first, he only wanted to befriend Effie.
Having her as another layer of protection from the world.
Yet unbeknownst to him Effie had begun to slowly develop feelings towards him.
In hindsight, he should have realized that constantly hunting and spending time with her for so long would allow something to develop.
Especially when she began to become comfortable with him to the point she even began to talk about her family and her desire to challenge the second Nightmare.
'Ahh you win some you lose some I guess'.
Isaac thought.
Well, could this even be considered a loss?
"Hey I am back-".
A voice came from the upper floor of the temple.
Sunny was back.
But...
"-ISAAC YOU SON OF A B*TCH".
He was furious.
It took a while for Isaac to come down Sunny.
He was almost scared to death.
"Anyway, how do you know the leader of the hunters".
Sunny asked incredulously.
Isaac replied nonchalantly.
"Well, we met under some precarious circumstances and gained a great companionship".
Isaac put on a smile.
Sunny felt nervous.
This bastard never showed any expression unless he wanted Sunny to stop prying.
'Not only handsome but has connections...tsk'.
Sonny was annoyed.
Suppressing his annoyance, he quickly changes the subject.
"I have a large number of memories with me".
Sunny then began to explain the memories that he had with him from the most simple armor-type memories to more complex weapons.
Surprisingly enough, there were two ascended-ranked weapons.
The rest of the Awakened Rank.
Of course, this didn't matter to Isaac as he couldn't obtain or use Memories that were created from the Spell.
"How many in total?".
Isaac asked.
"Almost two hundred useful Memories with around ninety-eight unusable ones".
Isaac nodded.
"You can take five Memories that are useful and you can also take the ninety-eight Memories and feed them to the Stone Saint".
Sunny nodded with a happy expression.
This would strengthen his power quite a bit.
If the shadow fragments that he consumed increased his strength, then logically it would be the same for his Shadow.
He had already fed the Stone Saint to Ascension.
If he could satisfy the three hundred shadow fragment requirement, his Shadow would attain Transcendence.
Sunny drooled at the thought.
Isaac, on the other hand, smiled for only a moment before his face turned back to its natural neutral expression.
Everything had already been prepared, and it was time for his final plan to be put into action before they went on the journey to claim the [Crown of Dawn].
"I'm going to be gone for a bit".
Isaac spoke to Sunny.
Sunny looked at him suspiciously but gave him a nod.
Isaac left the temple.
He began to walk in a certain direction.
Towards the Bright Castle.
"It's time I put you in chains Bright Lord".
