Shadow Slave: The Great Hunt

Chapter 2: Welcome to the Jungle

When Artemi awoke the landscape around him was completely different, instead of the metal room and the "bed" that he fell asleep on.

He immediately noticed the humidity and heat that seemed to press into him from all sides, when he looked around him he saw the insides of a walled off rustic village and beyond that a jungle with trees that he could only guess were 300 or more meters tall.

"Did you hear me hunter?"

Artemi looked down to see a short man with an annoyed expression on his face wearing what looked to be a leather jacket and trousers.

"No sir I am so sorry." Artemi said flustered with his brows furrowing a little

"Well this time make sure you are paying attention, there has been some creature harming our livestock and as our resident amature hunter you're the only one who can handle it."

The man who Artemi assumed was the mayor of sorts in the town proceeded to walk away saying "If you kill the thing you'll get a pretty penny."

This so far seemed easy just kill a singular nightmare creature and come back with its head for the mayor that seemed like the obvious goal.

As he started walking out of the palisade surrounding the quaint village he remembered the advice of the old police man.

Status

As he thought this a window seemed to appear out of nowhere made of archaic runes that for some reason he could understand

[Status:

Name: Artemi

True Name: —

Rank: Apirant

Soul core: dormant

Memories: —

Echoes: —

Attributes: [Fateful], [Child of Nature ], [Divine Blood]

Aspect: Amature beast hunter

Aspect description: [You read a book about how to hunt beasts and you became one thinking it would be easy, that was yesterday so you don't have many skills yet but at least you're not a normal amateur hunter, you're rare.]]

By the Skies Above! You have to be kidding me, my aspect is so useless! I started one day ago?!

As he thought this as he dismissed the strange runes, finally stepping out of the village he was startled as he heard a creak and a banging thud from behind him turning to see the gate he had just walked out of close.

It was only then that he noticed how terribly dark the bottom of the jungle was and also how beautiful it was, in a 'anything could kill you' kinda way.

"Kid, don't tell no one I gave ye this." He heard a deep strange accent from above and followed by a thump.

When he turned around to look again there was just a small seemingly hide bag on the ground and a wooden spear with a sharp stone attached to the end with what looked like more strips of the leather lying next to the palisade.

Why did he give this kindness, I could have killed him with these weapons… Strange, well I should look at my attributes. They are my only hope.

Resummoning the runes he tried to focus his mind on the parts under Attributes.

Attribute description [Fateful]: [the weave of fate neither favors or disfavors you but you have the luck or unluck of running into those especially in twined with fate.]

Attribute description [Child of Nature]: [Plants recognize you as one of their own.]

Attribute description [Divine Blood]: [far in the past one of your family members was touched by the divine giving your blood a small trace of the divine.]

Well that's just great, one useful attribute… But the other two are interesting, I wonder what the weave of fate is

He thought dejected at the grim reality of his situation. Sighing he dismissed the runes and looked around the moss and fern covered ground thinking about what he needed.

No, I won't give up. I want to survive not only that but thrive. That is the only way.

Maybe if I kill the beast and bring it back I may still be able to finish this first trial.

With that he went over to the bag and spear, taking one in both hands, and telling himself that with it he could kill the beast.

Looking through the bag he found a small stone knife, a compass and a small book that in those same strange runes read 'Plants of the Jungle'.

This could be useful. He thought as he sat down on a moss covered stump still just a few meters from the palisade and opened the book looking for any plants that were edible.

After about 10 to 15 minutes Artemi stood back up putting the book back in his bag and taking a moment to think, the problem for him is that most of the plants in this strange jungle are deadly as if they would eat him, his only hope was that [Child of Nature] would save him.

These thoughts running through his mind he came to the conclusion that he had to take a chance with this strange attribute.

You may face defeat in life, but never let yourself be defeated… I think that's what the crazy man on the corner once said. It's a shame about that PTV though.

Artemi was starting to realize just how crazy he was becoming, but just like always in the dangerous jungle… this time though it was strange.

'Arghh'

He shouted as out of seemingly nowhere was lit up by a pure golden light that seemed to come straight through the trees, conveniently at that moment he looked at a diagonal into the trees.

Skies Above, can something not happen every two minutes, and too me?!

Wait a minute that isn't the direction of the sun

He thought looking over his shoulder to see the sun, although it was hazy and obscured he could still see the gods be damned thing getting close to setting

It must be reflecting off of something… This also tells me I'm on a hill of some sort as normally I shouldn't be able to see the sun because of the trees, at least according to this book.

As he mulled over this subject an idea began to slowly form in his mind, a idiotic and stupid idea but an idea nonetheless.

You know I've always wanted to climb a tree and hey what's the worst that could happen.
