Sharingan Evolution: Proficiency's Path

Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Chakra Battery

Three days had passed in the blink of an eye. The disturbance caused by the puppet master from the Sand Village, Chiya, had finally subsided. The mission report, submitted by Seimei, concluded that the enemy had escaped. It was reviewed and approved.

In times of war, a disappearance like this was nothing out of the ordinary. Unless someone actively sought out this person or the Sand Village launched a major search, Chiya would essentially vanish from the world. No one would expend effort for a 'nobody,' except perhaps his own clan.

Seimei had already confirmed his suspicion through interrogation: Chiya wasn't just any ordinary ninja. He hailed from a declining clan in the Sand Village. His clan's leader had once been the apprentice of the Second Kazekage, Shamon, inheriting the latter's puppet-making and control techniques.

Unfortunately, their clan had suffered heavy losses during the last two Shinobi Wars, and they slowly faded into obscurity. In recent years, however, a glimmer of hope appeared with Chiya, a genius of sorts, though not a full-fledged one. Thanks to him, the clan had shown signs of revival.

But Chiya's abilities had also come with restrictions. He had never been free, always under the watchful eyes of his clan members and confined to study puppet techniques for most of his life. Despite this, Chiya proved himself, crafting his own puppets—his signature giant spider and humanoid puppets.

Because of these accomplishments, he was eventually granted more freedom. But perhaps due to years of suppression, Chiya developed a tendency to take risks, trying to prove himself through bold actions during missions.

Like this time, instead of letting Kanemoku go, he chose to attack, drawing Seimei and his team's attention. He then tried to ambush and take them out together. But as the saying goes, walk too much at night, and you'll eventually run into ghosts. Chiya's ambush could have worked on other Chūnin squads, but he wasn't so lucky to encounter Seimei.

Seimei's strength far exceeded that of an average Chūnin, and he could even hold his own against Jōnin for a few exchanges. Chiya, clearly not on the Jōnin level, had no chance. Thus, it was no surprise that he ended up captured.

"Captain, should we split up here again?"

Seimei's thoughts were interrupted by Uejō Yōichi's voice. Glancing around, Seimei nodded. "Yes, right here."

He then turned toward Uejō and the other Chūnin, who had been assigned to assist their squad. "Proceed as planned. Check the markers and traps along the way. If anything's wrong, signal immediately."

"Yes, Captain!"

After acknowledging the orders, the two left, leaving Seimei to inspect his designated area. But soon, he slipped away to a secluded spot, arriving under a short tree.

Looking around to ensure no one was nearby, Seimei cleared away the underbrush, revealing a dark hole in the ground. Without hesitation, he jumped in, falling three or four meters before landing on solid ground.

He wasted no time, navigating the dark tunnel until he reached a vast underground cavern.

This was a place Seimei had discovered by accident during a previous patrol. The cavern was natural, but the passageway had been artificially carved. Inside, he had even found some supplies, seemingly left behind from over a decade ago.

He surmised that this was likely a hideout used during the last Shinobi War. Whether its previous users were dead or not, Seimei didn't care. They probably wouldn't return, and even if they were alive, they might have forgotten about this place.

As long as no one needed it, he figured there was no harm in borrowing it temporarily.

At the deepest part of the cave, bound to a pillar with his hands severed, Chiya lay unconscious.

"Alright, stop pretending. You should know the abilities of my Sharingan," Seimei called out.

As soon as he spoke, Chiya opened his eyes, glaring with intense hatred. "Don't even dream about it. I won't talk."

Seimei responded casually, "I know."

With that, he raised his hands, forming seals for the Chakra Absorption Technique.

His hand glowing with chakra, Seimei placed it on Chiya's head. Immediately, Chiya's chakra poured out, flowing into Seimei's body like a flood.

At first, Chiya struggled, but as more of his chakra was drained, he grew weaker and weaker. Despite his hatred, Seimei couldn't deny that Chiya had potential.

A typical Chūnin might have around two to three thousand units of chakra, but Chiya had over five thousand. And this was still before he had fully matured. Given a few more years, his clan might have produced a new Jōnin.

But alas, all that potential now belonged to Seimei.

After draining Chiya of his chakra, Seimei's Chakra Absorption Technique converted it at a 60% efficiency rate, netting him three thousand points of chakra.

Just like the last couple of days, Seimei divided this chakra into two portions: two thousand points were invested into training the Yōkō Technique, while the remaining thousand were used to upgrade his Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Fire Technique.

This allocation yielded an additional twelve proficiency points for each technique. For the Yōkō Technique, this also increased his Sharingan's progression by four points. Combined with his own chakra supply, Seimei's Sharingan evolved fourteen points overall.

The speed of his Sharingan's evolution was now 40% faster.

This was a tremendous boost.

As for his Phoenix Sage Fire Technique, the speed at which he gained proficiency had more than doubled. The improvement was even more significant.

Even if Chiya never divulged any puppet-related secrets, Seimei didn't consider it a loss. With a chakra battery like this, he saved a great deal of time.

Still, one battery wasn't enough. Seimei had already planned to learn the Shadow Clone Technique. Once mastered, he could move more freely without the Leaf Village's eyes on him and stay in the underground hideout for longer periods.

With him there personally, he could hold more prisoners.

Of course, Seimei couldn't always sever the hands of his prisoners like he had done with Chiya. Even now, he had to check on him regularly to ensure he wasn't escaping.

If Seimei wanted to capture more prisoners, he would need to watch over them carefully. Otherwise, if even one managed to escape, the consequences would be dire.
