Chapter 167: Chapter 168: A Cat in a Daze
It was clear—if the incident of him and Yoruichi soaking in a hot spring together reached Captain Unohana's ears…
Makoto shivered instinctively.
Even worse, knowing Yoruichi's playful nature, there was a chance she'd take a sneaky photo and keep it as evidence.
Makoto's first instinct was to grab a towel, cover his face, and make a mad dash out of the hot spring. At least that way, even if Yoruichi had any incriminating photos, as long as his face wasn't visible, he could vehemently deny everything.
He refused to believe that Captain Unohana would go to the lengths of stripping him down to compare every detail of his body to those in the photos.
Gulp.
As Makoto readied himself to escape, he forgot a crucial fact: Yoruichi wasn't just anyone—she was one of the most skilled in Shunpo and Hakuda in all of the Seireitei.
Sure, in terms of Spiritual Particle Manipulation, Makoto could emerge as the victor. But when it came to controlling every single muscle of her physical form, Yoruichi was unrivaled.
The moment Makoto's body instinctively tensed, Yoruichi immediately noticed his intent. Her black cat form tilted its head in surprise as she spoke.
"Trying to run? Wait… Makoto-kun, don't tell me you've figured out who I am?"
"W-what?" Makoto leaned back against the edge of the hot spring, putting as much distance as possible between himself and the cat. Feigning surprise, he exclaimed, "A talking cat? Amazing! Where did you come from?"
"Amazing, huh?" Yoruichi narrowed her golden eyes, her two front paws pressing against Makoto's chest. With a mischievous tone, she continued, "In that case, Makoto-kun, how about I show you something even more amazing?"
Makoto froze.
At that moment, he could already predict what Yoruichi was planning next.
No. Absolutely not.
No matter what, he couldn't let Yoruichi take control of the situation—especially not in her human form. That would spell disaster beyond imagination.
Determined, Makoto made up his mind. In a flash, he grabbed the black cat by her front paws, lifting her up. Feigning curiosity, he said, "What an adorable little kitty! A quick cuddle wouldn't hurt, right?"
Before Yoruichi could react, Makoto buried his face into her soft, furry belly and began… well, "cuddling" would be an understatement.
"?!"
Yoruichi was stunned.
For someone who prided herself on always being in control, this sensation was… bewildering.
It was important to note that Yoruichi's transformation into a black cat was made possible by a secret artifact of the Shihōin family. The artifact temporarily altered her spiritual structure, allowing her to adopt this unique form. As such, her physical sensations in this form were remarkably vivid and realistic.
In other words, at that moment, Yoruichi felt as though her entire torso had been thoroughly absorbed.
Even someone as bold and uninhibited as Yoruichi—known for her teasing antics and shameless humor—found herself momentarily paralyzed. Her eyes became unfocused, and her usually sharp demeanor melted into confusion.
Makoto, on the other hand, continued unabated. Using what could only be described as a well-practiced technique, he indulged in his "cat-cuddling" spree until he was thoroughly satisfied. Finally, he released Yoruichi, who now resembled a cat that had been tranquilized—her pupils unfocused, her pink tongue limply sticking out of her mouth.
Looks like I've neutralized the threat… for now, Makoto thought, relieved.
Surely, after this, Yoruichi wouldn't dare revert to her human form in front of him, right?
Still… just to be safe…
A mischievous glint flashed in Makoto's eyes as a bold idea took root in his mind.
"This cat's fur is so smooth and silky," he mused aloud. "But why does it speak with a male voice?"
Without waiting for an answer, Makoto placed Yoruichi onto the surface of the water. Then, with feigned innocence, he began to lift her hind legs.
"Let's see… are you a little boy or a girl?"
"And if you're a stray," Makoto continued thoughtfully, "you probably haven't been neutered yet. Maybe I should do you a favor and take care of that. Wouldn't want you running into any wild stray cats, right?"
The moment those words reached Yoruichi's ears—and as she felt her hind legs being spread apart in such a compromising manner—her composure snapped.
"THAT'S ENOUGH, YOU IDIOT!"
In an instant, Yoruichi's instincts kicked in. With a burst of spiritual energy, she used a shunpo far beyond Makoto's abilities, escaping his grasp. She landed squarely on his shoulder and sank her sharp teeth into him without hesitation.
"AAAAHHH!" Makoto cried out as four distinct puncture wounds appeared on his shoulder.
Even that wasn't enough for Yoruichi. Swiping with her claws, she left scratch marks across his back, each more vicious than the last.
There was no mistaking it—this was payback. Payback for Makoto's unapproved cat-cuddling.
"Wait! Kitty, no! I'm sorry!" Makoto begged, his tone dripping with regret.
Finally, Yoruichi relented, though not without glaring at him with a look that promised vengeance. She turned away with an air of disdain, leaving Makoto slumped against the hot spring's edge, groaning in pain.
"So…" Makoto mumbled between exaggerated gasps. "Who are you, kitty? If I'd ever met such a cute and elegant cat before, there's no way I would've forgotten."
Yoruichi's tail flicked in irritation at his audacity. For a moment, she wanted to berate him, but the words caught in her throat. Somehow, his absurd antics had robbed her of the upper hand.
"Hmph! Pervert," she muttered angrily. "Who sees a cat and does something like that?"
With one final glare, Yoruichi vanished, her movements graceful and swift.
Watching her disappear, Makoto finally let out a long sigh of relief. The weight on his chest eased, and for the first time since the encounter began, he felt truly safe.
Sure, I got bitten and scratched, but that's still better than giving Yoruichi any leverage over me…
Just as Makoto was preparing to leave the hot spring, Yoruichi—still in her cat form—dashed back into the water, her golden eyes gleaming with a sharp warning.
"Don't you dare expose me, or you'll regret it."
With that, she dove beneath the surface, hiding directly under Makoto's legs.
"?!"
Makoto froze, his eyes darting towards the entrance.
To his horror, he saw Soi Fon standing there, gazing suspiciously in his direction.
