Chapter 180: Chapter 181: Yamada Hanataro
In Makoto's eyes, Gin's talent and aptitude were beyond question, and his ability to remain patient and composed was even more terrifying. Beneath that perpetually unreadable smile lay fangs that seemed ready to strike at any moment.
On the other hand, there was no denying Gin's deep sense of loyalty and sentimentality.
By now, Makoto had clearly felt Gin Ichimaru's regard for him.
For someone as obsessive as Gin, who was willing to sacrifice himself for those he cherished, his decision to protect Makoto even at the cost of tarnishing his own reputation spoke volumes about the place Makoto held in his heart.
However, Makoto quickly averted his gaze, lest Aizen noticed.
Since Gin had chosen this path and made such sacrifices, though Makoto felt helpless about it, he could only do his best to cooperate with Gin's performance.
Perhaps, when there's time, I should try to resolve the issue of Gin and Rangiku's fragmented souls. This can't go on indefinitely...
This thought flashed through Makoto's mind as he put on a gentle smile, like a spring breeze, patiently interviewing the graduates applying to join the Fourth Division.
"Harada Risa, thank you for choosing the Fourth Division. Could you please answer a few questions?"
"168 cm tall, 50 kg, measurements 84-61-90, capable of working late, enduring hardship, and handling tasks in any weather..."
"No, no, that's not what I'm asking."
"Cup size?"
"That's not it either..."
Makoto looked helplessly at Harada's eager expression and decided to lower his head to check the application form she handed over. He carefully reviewed her qualifications one by one.
"...You're accepted, Harada Risa. Isane, please help her with the registration."
"Next..."
Before Makoto could finish speaking, a familiar face with a timid expression appeared in front of him.
"Makoto... Makoto-kun."
Hearing this, Makoto raised his head, slightly startled. Standing before him was a young man with downcast eyes and naturally drooping corners, exuding a gentle and hesitant demeanor.
"Hanataro, have you graduated early this year too?" Makoto asked with a smile.
Indeed, the person in front of him was none other than his former junior and friend, Hanataro Yamada, the younger brother of Seinosuke Yamada.
Unlike Seinosuke's sharp-tongued and acerbic nature, Hanataro was one of the gentlest and most unassuming people Makoto had ever met.
At the very least, though Hanataro occasionally faced bullying at the Shin'o Academy, he had never shown anger or frustration because of it.
Of course, Makoto understood that Hanataro wasn't lacking courage deep down. His timid personality likely stemmed from a lifetime of enduring Seinosuke's cutting remarks, leaving him indifferent to many minor slights.
"Yes, Makoto-kun. Here is my application to join the division," Hanataro said, cautiously handing over his documents with both hands, his eyes reflecting a mix of nervousness and care.
Makoto, however, didn't even glance at the papers. He passed them to Isane for registration and said, "There's no need. I have absolute faith in Hanataro's skill in healing and kido."
In fact, the friendship between Makoto and Hanataro had largely formed because they were among the rare few genuinely interested in healing arts and kido at the Shin'o Academy.
"Th-thank you..." Hanataro stammered nervously.
Leaning on his hand, Makoto gave a warm smile that sent the female graduates in line swooning. He spoke gently, "Don't act so formal with me. I plan to set up a small office in the Fourth Division to assist with administrative tasks. Since you've graduated, why not take charge of new graduate management and training?"
"Wha-what?!"
Hanataro's perpetually drowsy-looking eyes widened slightly, and he waved his hands in a panic. "I can't, Makoto-kun! I'm not good at dealing with people, and no one would listen to me!"
"Precisely because of that, you need to practice," Makoto said with a decisive tone, knowing Hanataro's lack of self-confidence. "It's settled."
Hanataro opened his mouth to protest but ended up bowing to express his gratitude, feeling as though nothing had changed.
Despite Makoto-kun now being a Vice-captain, he was still the same Makoto-kun who would make all the right decisions for someone as hesitant and insecure as Hanataro. All Hanataro needed to do was follow them.
To further hone Hanataro's abilities, Makoto had him sit by his side, taking over the task of interviewing the new recruits for the Fourth Division. Makoto occasionally gave pointers, helping establish Hanataro's authority among the graduates.
At that moment, Hanataro was deeply moved, silently vowing to repay Makoto's trust with all his might.
Unbeknownst to him, Hanataro's arrival was also a relief for Makoto.
The Fourth Division was critically short-staffed, with numerous seated officer positions vacant. Even with the assistance of Isane and Aoki Risa, Makoto still had an overwhelming workload.
Balancing daily medical consultations, training new recruits, and integrating them into the division left him little time.
Hanataro's skills, despite his timid personality, made him an invaluable assistant—reliable, diligent, and perfectly suited to the role.
Inwardly, Makoto couldn't help but be grateful to the Yamada family once more: Seinosuke Yamada... not just your wife but even your brother is extraordinary.
Of course, Makoto also intended to nurture Hanataro. With a bit more confidence, Hanataro would undoubtedly become a pillar of the Fourth Division.
