Shinigami: Medicine Can't Save The Soul Reaper Society

Chapter 189: Chapter 190: Not So Easy

At that moment, in Byakuya's eyes, the once frail father who was often deemed unfit to bear the weight of the Kuchiki family's honor now seemed towering and formidable.

For the honor of the Kuchiki family...

From within the massive cloud of dust raised by the wooden dragon's impact, a crimson Cero shot skyward, tearing the wooden dragon in half.

Amidst the flying splinters, a humanoid Adjuchas slowly emerged from the smoke, hovering in midair.

Yet, as the Adjuchas revealed itself, it was immediately met with a barrage of pre-prepared mid-to-high-level Kido spells.

"Bakudō #62: Hyapporankan!"

"Bakudō #61: Rikujokoro!"

"Bakudō #63: Sajo Sabaku!"

Restricted by their limited spiritual pressure, the Sixth Division's Shinigami could only cast weakened spells within the sixties range. While a single spell of this level might have posed little trouble for the humanoid Adjuchas, over a dozen such spells were enough to hold it firmly in midair, if only temporarily.

In the next moment, Sōjun charged towards the restrained Adjuchas. Blood-red spider lilies floated around him, framing him like a noble prince straight out of a poem.

Even Makoto couldn't help but feel a tinge of awe at the sight.

The Kuchiki family's Zanpakutō… It might not be the strongest, but when it came to beauty, each one was as dazzlingly elegant as the next.

Sōjun's Zanpakutō was similar to Byakuya's. He held only the hilt, while the blade had transformed into a cascade of ethereal, blood-red spider lilies.

Makoto watched, somewhat puzzled. Normally, Sōjun should have maintained his distance in this situation to avoid engaging in a disadvantageous melee battle.

But contrary to his expectations, Sōjun closed the distance, swiftly advancing towards the humanoid Adjuchas.

As he drew near, just as the Adjuchas was about to break free from the binding Kido spells, Sōjun raised the hilt of his sword and made a stabbing motion towards the Adjuchas' head.

"Higanbana."

The surrounding spider lilies coalesced, forming a blade of petals—beautiful yet seemingly harmless. This floral blade connected directly to the Adjuchas' head.

Though it appeared fragile, the petal blade bypassed the Adjuchas' tough Hierro and seemed to penetrate deep into its skull.

The blade grew redder as it began to wither. Sōjun's face turned noticeably pale in return.

In an astonishing display, blood-red spider lilies started to bloom from within the Adjuchas' skull, spreading outward until they covered its entire head.

With a flick of Sōjun's wrist, the spider lilies wilted, and the Adjuchas' head disappeared completely.

"Victory... We've won!"

"Lord Sojun is incredible!"

"No matter how many times I see it, it never ceases to amaze me. This is the beauty and danger of Lord Sojun's Zanpakutō ability!"

The Sixth Division's Shinigami erupted in cheers. Even Byakuya let out a long sigh of relief.

Makoto, observing the scene, dispelled the layers of wooden barriers surrounding him and swiftly appeared beside Byakuya.

Byakuya immediately bowed deeply. "Makoto, thank you so much."

"No need for formalities. We're friends. Besides, the First Rescue Unit should arrive shortly," Makoto replied before curiously adding, "By the way, what exactly is Vice-Captain Sōjun's Zanpakutō ability? It seems quite formidable."

Byakuya offered a faint, bitter smile. "Father's Zanpakutō is beautiful but utterly unsuited for him. The spider lilies thrive on blood—nurtured by his own, they bloom with the enemy's. Yet, Father's body cannot sustain such an ability for long."

He paused before continuing with gratitude. "If it weren't for the opportunity you created, Father wouldn't have had the chance to defeat that Adjuchas."

"You're too kind. I'm sure Vice-Captain Sōjun could have handled it, though it might have taken him a bit longer," Makoto said modestly, glancing towards Sōjun.

With the battle over, Sōjun exhaled deeply, waving towards Makoto from afar as a gesture of gratitude and goodwill.

However, Makoto's expression suddenly changed. Instinctively, he stretched out his hand towards Sōjun, causing the grass beneath Sōjun's feet to grow rapidly, entangling his ankles and pulling him aside.

A flash of cold light streaked past where Sōjun had just stood, blood spraying into the air!

Before everyone's shocked eyes, Sōjun's arm, still clutching his Zanpakutō, was severed and fell into the hands of the previously headless Adjuchas.

"H-How is this possible?"

"Why? Why is it still moving without a head?"

"Lord Sojun!"

Amidst the Shinigami's cries of disbelief, the humanoid Adjuchas finally spoke, not from its missing head, but from its abdomen.

"What a pity. I thought that strike would kill this Shinigami. Who would've guessed I'd only tear off an arm?"

The Adjuchas then shoved Sōjun's severed arm into the grotesque mouth on its abdomen.

Before the horrified eyes of the Shinigami, its abdomen chewed up the arm with audible relish.

"Delicious… utterly exquisite. Far more delectable than I imagined. Is this the taste of a strong Shinigami? Truly moving," it said, its tone tinged with delight.

As it spoke, the Adjuchas pulled out Sōjun's Zanpakutō from the severed arm and casually discarded it. Its abdomen then opened further to reveal a pair of sinister eyes.

A surge of spiritual pressure, even more overwhelming and despair-inducing than before, erupted from the creature's body.

Its gaze swept over the bloodied and half-conscious Sōjun, the grim-faced Makoto, and the stunned Shinigami.

"Surely you naïve Shinigami didn't think that we Sparx could be defeated so easily?"
