Shinigami: Medicine Can't Save The Soul Reaper Society

Chapter 193: Chapter 194: Leshan Giant Buddha

"No… please, no..."

"Let me see!"

"Sparx is off-limits! I can't allow it!"

"I said, let me see. Or do you want to die right here, right now?"

...

For a moment, the standoff froze in tense silence. With just one finger, Makoto pinned Sparx in place, leaving the hollow completely immobile. Each side stubbornly clung to their principles, unwilling to back down.

Makoto wasn't the least bit worried about being discovered by other Shinigami or causing unnecessary misunderstandings. After all, those present had already been "protected" inside his Shinra Bansho: Jukai Kotan

As for the current state of the Seireitei, it was far from the organized system it would become in a century. The Technology Development Bureau was a fledgling institution, incapable of monitoring the hollows in the Human World effectively.

The chaos within the Bureau had only intensified since Kisuke Urahara had been tactfully "removed" from the Seireitei through the covert cooperation of Aizen and Makoto. Consequently, the Bureau had yet to develop meaningful tools, let alone an advanced monitoring system.

The fact that Sōjun's plea for help even reached the Seireitei was entirely thanks to the Hell Butterflies' messaging capabilities.

Faced with Makoto's unrelenting pressure—embodied by that massive finger poised to end his existence at any moment—Sparx had no choice. Slowly, reluctantly, he began to peel away his external shell.

Soon, Sparx true form was revealed beneath his humanoid exterior.

His body was entirely white, encased in a soft-looking outer shell. A small mask adorned his head, while the hollow hole lay in the center of his torso.

At first glance, Sparx resembled nothing more than a harmless insect, save for the rows of razor-sharp teeth in his maw that lent him a hint of menace.

"You're… kind of ugly," Makoto commented plainly.

As a healer of unimpeachable ethics, Makoto had a principle of never lying to his patients, even if the truth might sting. His calm tone was like a dagger to Sparx's fragile ego, already battered by humiliation.

In Hueco Mundo, strength and fearsome appearances were held in high regard. Size, ferocity, and monstrous forms were celebrated, and the ultimate ideal was a humanoid form—reserved for the mighty Vasto Lorde.

Sparx, however, embodied none of these traits. His insectoid form lacked grandeur and ferocity, which was why he worked so hard to maintain his false humanoid appearance.

Before Sparx could unleash his fury or vow revenge as the future devourer of Soul Society, five wooden arms extended from Makoto's massive finger, seizing him from multiple angles.

Makoto began to inspect Sparx meticulously. Here, he pried something open; there, he counted the sections of his body…

Sparx's eyes glazed over in despair. He felt as though he had fallen into the hands of someone far more terrifying than Szayelaporro, someone who would leave his body irreparably altered.

"Ah!" Sparx cried out, feeling a sudden sharp pain near his rear. His voice rose in panic. "Shinigami! What are you doing to me?!"

Makoto, his voice unusually gentle and patient, replied, "Don't be so dramatic. It's just a simple injection. A standard procedure to check if Szayelaporro has tampered with you."

With that, a wooden syringe materialized in Makoto's hand. After completing the injection, the wooden arms retracted back into the massive finger.

Of course, the "wooden syringe" wasn't made from ordinary spiritual particles. It was an extension of Makoto's spiritual energy, carefully crafted for this precise purpose. His true intention was to plant a seed within Sparx's body.

As an Adjuchas, Sparx was equivalent in power to a Captain-level Shinigami. With his cautious and survival-oriented personality, Makoto was confident Sparx would live a long life in Hueco Mundo—making him a worthwhile host for a "Seeds of the Forest."

Rather than killing Sparx—a hollow whose death would have little impact on Hueco Mundo—Makoto chose to repurpose him in a way that maximized his potential value.

Sparx, confused by Makoto's actions, asked hesitantly, "What… what does this mean?"

"No major issues," Makoto replied, his tone calm. "By insect standards, your physical development is rather healthy."

After a pause, he continued in a gentle voice, "If you promise not to invade the Human World or Soul Society, I'll let you return to Hueco Mundo. Deal?"

"??!!"

Sparx was stunned. Staring at the wooden puppet-like figure before him, he struggled to believe what he had just heard.

"You… you're serious? You're not going to kill me?" he stammered.

From the moment Makoto subdued him, Sparx had fallen into despair. He had been stalling for time, desperately hoping for a chance to escape. But never in his wildest dreams did he imagine that the Shinigami would willingly release him.

"Why would I kill you?" Makoto asked, his voice as steady as ever. "Hasn't the world already seen enough fighting and bloodshed? Must it forever revolve around cycles of slaughter and death?"

Makoto's wooden voice carried an unexpected weight, a profound sincerity that struck a chord deep within Sparx.

"Killing for survival, for sustenance—I can understand that. But killing driven by hollow ideals and empty slogans, stripping life after life without reason—that's not justice. That's cruelty.

"And I… I simply want to save those who are lost and in pain."

For a moment, Sparx felt an indescribable shock, as though he had encountered a saint among Shinigami—one who truly understood the plight of hollows.

Yes…

To Shinigami, hollows were evil beings that devoured souls. But to hollows, consuming souls was a basic biological necessity, no different from humans eating meat.

Shinigami, by contrast, could survive without killing hollows, yet they slaughtered them under the guise of righteousness, driven by hollow convictions.

"Shinigami… may I know your name?" Sparx asked, his voice trembling.

"My name?" The wooden puppet fell silent for a few moments before replying slowly.

"My name is Leshan Dafu." (Leshan Giant Buddha)
