Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Calculations and Interception
Shockwave sat within his laboratory, the room dimly lit by the glow of energon veins running through the walls. Around him, holographic displays floated in midair, each showing streams of data he had extracted from the Nova Corps' central archives. Their systems were laughably simple to breach; their encryption protocols, though advanced by human standards, were no match for the efficiency of Shockwave's superior processing capabilities.
One particular file captured his attention: a log detailing a recent shift in the universal energy balance. The file referenced Kyle Rayner, a human from Earth who had achieved the extraordinary feat of bringing every Emotional Entity beyond the Source Wall to fuel the universe's energy.
"Fascinating," Shockwave muttered, his single glowing optic narrowing as he delved deeper into the data. "The consolidation of emotional spectrums under the Green Lantern Corps... An illogical monopoly. Fear, rage, avarice—emotions that fuel strength—are now suppressed in favor of order. This shift is unbalanced and therefore inefficient."
Further reading revealed that Parallax, the Emotional Entity of Fear, remained in captivity, though its location was classified. His memories from his human life failed him here. The knowledge he once had about this universe's intricate lore was now fragmented, but that was irrelevant. He would locate Parallax in time, but for now, his attention was drawn elsewhere.
Shockwave turned to another file: an incident report from Xandar. The Mad Titan, Thanos, had already acquired three Infinity Stones: Power, Reality, and Space. The reports indicated his next target was the Soul Stone, located on the remote planet of Vormir.
Shockwave's processor hummed as he calculated the probabilities. Thanos's acquisition of all six Infinity Stones would result in a cataclysmic imbalance in the universe. Such chaos was illogical and would interfere with Shockwave's plans to establish Plexicon as a dominant force.
"Interception is necessary," Shockwave concluded, rising from his seat. His massive frame moved with calculated precision as he activated a nearby console. "The Soul Stone must not fall into Thanos's hands. If acquired, it shall serve as a tool for Plexicon's ascendancy."
He turned to a trio of drones hovering nearby, each sleek and deadly, designed for stealth and infiltration. "Deploy to Vormir," he commanded. "Your objectives are as follows: incapacitate Ebony Maw, retrieve the Soul Stone, and return to Plexicon. Subtlety is paramount. The Mad Titan must not become aware of our involvement."
The drones emitted a series of affirmations before vanishing into the shadows, their cloaking systems rendering them nearly invisible.
As the infiltration bots departed, Shockwave directed his attention to a secondary project. Towering above him in an adjacent chamber were massive constructs resembling mechanical worms, their segmented bodies lined with razor-sharp metallic spines. These were his War Worms, inspired by the original Shockwave's terrifying creations from Cybertron.
Each War Worm was a weapon of mass destruction, capable of burrowing through planets and leaving devastation in their wake. Shockwave observed their progress, ensuring every system was functioning at peak efficiency.
"War Worm Legion, operational status at 72%," a drone reported, its voice monotone.
Shockwave nodded. "Accelerate completion. These will be the vanguard of Plexicon's military might. Logic dictates that their presence will deter aggression and secure our expansion."
He glanced at the holographic display showing Vormir's planetary system. If his infiltration bots failed to retrieve the Soul Stone, the War Worms would serve as a contingency plan.
Shockwave returned to his console, running simulations of various outcomes. The Nova Corps' logs had provided him with a wealth of information about the major players in this universe, but gaps in his knowledge remained. Thanos was a significant threat, but the unified Green Lantern Corps presented an equally pressing challenge.
"Parallax," Shockwave muttered. "Its power could destabilize the Green Lantern Corps and create a schism within their ranks. Locating it is a priority."
He accessed his internal database, cross-referencing his fragmented memories with the information he had extracted. Possible locations for Parallax began to form in his mind, but each required further investigation.
As the hours passed, Shockwave's plans began to solidify. His immediate objective was clear: secure the Soul Stone before Thanos could claim it. However, his long-term goals were far more ambitious.
"Plexicon shall not merely survive," he declared, his voice echoing through the chamber. "It shall dominate. Logic dictates that this universe requires order, and I shall provide it. The Mad Titan, the Green Lantern Corps, and all others who stand in my way will be... corrected."
Far across the galaxy, on the desolate planet of Vormir, Shockwave's infiltration bots arrived in silence. Their cloaking systems shielded them from detection as they observed Ebony Maw, who was already preparing the ritual to retrieve the Soul Stone for Thanos.
The lead bot transmitted a signal back to Plexicon, providing Shockwave with real-time updates. "Begin Phase One," Shockwave commanded from his lab.
The bots moved with mechanical precision, deploying an electromagnetic pulse that disabled Ebony Maw's equipment. The alien stumbled, momentarily disoriented, as the bots descended upon him. Their attacks were swift and calculated, incapacitating him without causing fatal damage.
With Ebony Maw neutralized, the bots turned their attention to the ritual site. Shockwave's calculations had accounted for the Soul Stone's requirement—a sacrifice. He had already prepared for this contingency. One of the bots, pre-programmed with a self-termination directive, approached the altar.
As the sacrifice was made, the Soul Stone emerged, its orange glow illuminating the barren landscape. The remaining bots secured the artifact, cloaking it within a specialized containment field before beginning their journey back to Plexicon.
Hours later, the bots returned to Shockwave's laboratory, presenting the Soul Stone. He observed it carefully, his optic glowing brighter as he analyzed its energy signature.
"Fascinating," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. "The power to control and manipulate souls... A resource of unparalleled value."
He placed the stone within a secure containment unit, its energy shielded from detection. "This will serve as a cornerstone of Plexicon's ascendancy," he declared. "Thanos will search in vain, and by the time he realizes the truth, it will be too late."
Shockwave turned back to his console, already planning his next move. Parallax, the Green Lantern Corps, the Infinity Stones—each piece of the puzzle was falling into place.
"Plexicon shall rise," he said, his voice resonating with cold determination. "And logic shall reign supreme."
