Soul-Slaying Maiden: Master Of Ancient Divine Weapons

Chapter 98: Chapter 98: The True Oriole

Li Shutong, fallen!

The First War God of Daxia, dispersed into the heavens and earth.

Li Lingzhen covered her mouth, preventing herself from crying out. Xia Youwei embraced her, gently patting her back.

Han Zhen closed his eyes tightly. The Void Origin forcibly embedded in his body by Li Shutong rampaged uncontrollably, as if attempting to break free from its shackles and return to the world.

He had no time to mourn Li Shutong's death; he had to focus entirely on suppressing the Void Origin.

He was now the one holding the chessboard.

The surviving Spirit Contracters around him witnessed the scene of Li Shutong perishing alongside the Zerg. Various reactions appeared on their faces.

A young man who had lost half a leg to the Zerg quietly sobbed. Losing a leg hadn't drawn a single tear, but now he was crying uncontrollably.

An elderly Guardian knelt on the ground, pounding the earth with his fists. Once a combat Spirit Contracter who had fought on the same battlefield as Li Shutong, he had retired due to age and taken up the role of Guardian in Deep Blue City.

Others stared blankly at the spot where Li Shutong had vanished, hoping he had never left.

In such a stifling and somber atmosphere, a discordant chuckle suddenly echoed.

The sound was faint at first but grew louder and louder, until everyone turned to look at the source.

A middle-aged man in a plaid shirt and brown shorts, wearing beach sandals, walked toward them with a distinct West Coast style.

He couldn't suppress the grin on his face, letting out waves of laughter.

Someone glared at him angrily, raising a fist to strike, but before the punch could land, the man exploded into a mist of blood.

This scene froze everyone in place.

"Ah, upon seeing me, you ignorant commoners don't kneel?"

"Daxia will now be a relic of the past. This land is now the territory of my Empire."

The speaker was Louis XVII, commander of the Imperial Knights.

Within the Empire, his power and influence mirrored the image of Li Shutong in the hearts of Daxia's people.

His arrival signaled that the "orioles" behind all this had truly entered the stage, ready to seize the fruits of victory.

Louis XVII had just taken two steps forward when a deafening roar erupted from the skies above.

A colossal war fortress, as massive as a small mountain, appeared on the coastline.

"Louis XVII, the Empire's reward isn't here. Don't break the rules."

"Oh? We Imperial Knights cherish our freedom. No one can bind us with rules. Whatever I lay my eyes on belongs to the Empire."

His lazy tone carried undeniable confidence and authority.

Just as his words fell, another figure appeared on his left—a seemingly ordinary young boy.

Sporting a crew cut, dressed in casual athletic wear, with hands in his pockets, he stared blankly ahead.

No one knew when he had arrived.

Carved into his neck was the label "00."

He was the first experimental subject of the Longevity Corporation.

No one knew how many serums had been injected into this initial test subject. He was originally an SSS-level talent but had been turned into a bio-warrior by the Longevity Corporation.

Despite his appearance as an eight- or nine-year-old, no one dared to underestimate him—not even Louis XVII.

"Well, as Imperial Knights, we also have the freedom not to provoke powerful enemies," Louis said, spreading his hands and halting his steps.

"According to our prior agreement, the Empire gets half of Daxia's territory, the Changsheng Corporation takes the other half, the Longevity Corporation retrieves the Shennong Cauldron, and the Old Covenant claims Han Zhen and the remaining Spirit Contracts."

The mechanical, synthesized voice from the doomsday fortress spoke coldly.

"But now, the plan has changed."

"According to reports from various battle zones, Li Shutong left contingencies in place. Although Daxia's strength is greatly diminished, the survivors have all moved north and taken control of natural barriers."

"Daxia's actual dividable territory has shrunk to two-thirds."

"The Old Covenant's Twelve Apostles lost eight members in this operation. Only one escaped severely injured, leaving them gravely weakened. The Pope's absence during this critical moment suggests fear of being jointly targeted by us."

"In light of this, the Pope's original spoils of war will now be split between the Shangshang Corporation and the Empire."

CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!

Louis XVII applauded first.

"Such a reasonable distribution, Chairman Chang. Your decisions are truly flexible."

The silent bio-warrior labeled "00" evaluated the situation, estimating his odds of taking on both sides simultaneously. After a moment, he chose to remain silent.

It didn't matter. He was here only for the Shennong Cauldron.

"Commander Louis XVII, you may take the Fuxi Zither and Xuanyuan Sword. But this Spirit Contracter himself belongs to us," the mechanical voice added.

Louis XVII's eyes narrowed slightly, though his smile remained.

"Chairman Shang, could it be for your precious daughter? I heard she awakened E—"

BOOM!

The doomsday fortress bristled with countless black muzzles aimed forward, cutting off Louis's words.

He fell silent, as did everyone else, their conversation as if discussing mundane affairs.

Yet Li Shutong had just perished, countless lives had been lost, and they were all humans.

How dare they!

Gongyang Jin shielded Li Lingzhen and Xia Youwei behind her.

Though she had just met them, as a fellow Spirit Contracter, with Han Zhen unconscious and enemies encircling them, she had to step forward.

"Alone, do you really think you can protect them?"

Louis XVII stepped forward again, his tone relaxed, his gaze playful.

"What a beauty. Why choose him? Come with me—I am your true match. You belong with the strong."

The boy and the fortress advanced as well, encircling the four.

Their gazes treated them like spoils of war.

Li Shutong was gone. The First War God of Daxia no longer existed. Who could protect them now?

No one expected the crisis to come so quickly.

At the critical moment, a hoarse voice rang out as a black hole exploded, instantly engulfing the three women!

"So, it was you who forced my teacher to his death."

From the endless darkness came Han Zhen's cold voice.

The powerful figures were startled. Memories of the transcendent Void resurfaced, and they instinctively stepped back.

"Don't be fooled!"

The cold mechanical voice warned, "That black hole's energy signature is off."

Understanding the implied message, they stopped retreating.

Regaining consciousness, Han Zhen's character panel appeared before him.
