Chapter 8: 08. Magic Appraisal (2)
The Appraisal Ritual was also a high-level spell.
However, it was a straightforward one.
Although it was simple, it was also very important, especially for anyone who hoped to walk the path of Magic in Nethria.
The ritual served two purposes.
The first is to assess the value of someone as it concerns their magic potential.
This way, it was easy to know if a person had the talent for magic or not.
The second was almost as important as the first, if not even more important.
The second reason for the Appraisal Ritual was to make the body used to mana since it involves disvirgining the body with mana to introduce the energy into it.
This introduction of mana into a naive body, which had not been exposed to external mana before, was the reason behind the immense pain that came with the ritual.
Freya understood this and was willing to help Drax through it.
She had promised not to let him feel pain during this time, and she meant it.
"So you want to use your healing magic on him," Alucard stated, already catching the drift of the Elf Queen's intention.
Freya bobbed her head in agreement.
Indeed, the Dragon Queen was right in her assertion.
Freya held Drax even tighter as the baby pressed against her breasts.
"Let us begin," she muttered to Alucard who agreed with a slight nod before clapping her hand once.
The Elf Queen took a deep breath before crafting runic symbols on Drax's chest as she carried him inside the pool.
A small magic circle manifested itself right at the centre of Drax's chest as the baby's limbs kicked in response to the strange feeling that came with Freya's magic.
Alucard, on the other hand, already began muttering inaudible words as the appraisal circle brightened up more and more and soon after, magic energy rose from the circumference of the appraisal circle in the form of vapour.
The atmosphere within the room gradually became dense with the mana that was emitted from the symbol and as it did that, it also found its way towards Drax.
Drax, who was sleeping, began to feel something cover him and warm him up.
A satisfying warm sensation like having a blanket cover during the time of a biting cold.
He turned left and right but soon relaxed as the mana flowed through his pores into his system.
The naivety of his body to mana was wearing off with this but it was not as painful as he had imagined after hearing Freya and Alucard's discussion about the process.
Seeing how comfortably he slept and only made subtle kicks with his leg, it was obvious that Drax was not feeling any sort of pain.
However, this was because the pain found its way elsewhere.
The pain which Drax was supposed to experience had been channelled into Freya's palm as she held it over the small glowing circle on Drax's chest.
Freya slightly gnashed her teeth as the energy she extracted from Drax's body entered hers causing her to feel the same pain her baby would have felt.
As mana entered Drax's body, muscle fibres were broken down.
Bones were been fortified.
His cells were being reformed and many more bodily changes took place.
This was all thanks to the mana which Alucard introduced into his body.
Freya, on the other hand, cast healing magic to numb the pain that came with the process, but a painful encounter of such level couldn't just be suppressed and let be, especially since Drax was still a baby.
"Aren't you… done yet," Freya ground her teeth.
"Almost," Alucard answered as she continued.
The longer the process lasted, the more Drax was becoming more conscious.
'What is this feeling?' Drax wondered as his eyes slowly came open.
His vision gradually cleared as he noticed the slight distress on Freya's face as well as the mana that flowed into his body.
'Is this it? Not as painful as I imagined.'
While he thought about the process, a familiar ding rang inside his head.
< Ding! >
< External mana detected! Your body has been remodelled to one that can accommodate mana >
< Body remodelling complete! You have grown stronger >
< Physiologies: Elven physiology (Active) / Draconic physiology (Locked) >
< Earned +4 to all stats >
< Ding! >
< You have awakened your magic thanks to your legacies >
< Magic: Fire Magic / Healing Magic / Tree Magic >
Drax's eyes were wide and his lips opened as he looked at the notification roll down in his mind.
He couldn't believe his eyes.
'+4 to all stats?!' he exclaimed excitedly in his head. 'That's four times what I usually get from feeding alone. Mana really is the shit in this world.'
He was not as impressed with his physiologies as he would have been if he awakened the both of them.
In fact, Drax would have loved to have his draconic physiology active over his elvish one.
Unfortunately, that was not the case.
His eyes moved over to his magic.
'Fire, healing and tree magic. Not bad at all. Hmm, probably means I inherited these from the two of them. Dragons are known for their affinity to fire and elves are nature-loving creatures. Makes sense. But I don't assume that's all I can use, maybe just for now.'
Everything was going well for Drax and he had only been summoned here for barely a day.
Meanwhile, Alucard was done appraising the child as she let out a long exhalation.
As soon as she parted her palms, the large appraisal circle started to dim and eventually vanished into the floor, leaving it spotless as if nothing had been drawn on it a second ago.
Freya gasped, relieved that it was finally over, as she turned to her baby, who was already staring at her.
"M-My darling," she breathed, managing a smile as she looked at Drax. "Everything is fine."
She carried the baby out of the pool, drenching the entire floor but this was not the Elf Queen's problem now.
"How is it, Alucard?" she asked, impatient to know what the outcome of the appraisal was.
Alucard was simply looking at them, her eyes focused more on the baby.
Her face expressed both concern and elation which left Freya confused.
"Come on already…" the Elf Queen persisted.
"Freya…"
"Yeah."
"That child…" the Dragon Queen began. "His magic power is not even that of a 1-Star Ranked Wizard or an Astellar Ranked Wizard…"
Freya's lips twitched furiously. "You mean…"
"Yes, Freya," Alucard added, nodding her head as she was about to give her the news.
"The child's magic power is…"
