Chapter 16: The Wind Brews
Nasiah charged into the outpost. He thought for a moment how he would even go about making sure they can't see him. He studied Musa's advice, that his body can be affected by the laws as well.
He then came up with an idea. He grabbed one of the grey strings around him, which held the Name "Visibility." It was under the bronze string with the Name "Light".
With a tug, he noticed that he was unable to see a rock right in front of him.
He realized that he could use this to his advantage. By manipulating these strings, he could render what is and is not visible!
A grin on his face formed as he used his free hand and tugged on the grey strings around his body, holding them down as he himself turned invisible to all those who would watch him.
The soldiers had no idea what could be heading their way. However, there were still a few things Nasiah needed to work on as well.
He jumped up and landed by one of the many watchtowers. The boy noticed that he made a faint thud as he landed. He was going to need to muffle that as well, but controlling many strings at once was difficult as they pushed back against him constantly.
He decided to stick with pure sight-based invisibility and muffle his steps by landing using the heel of his feet as well as his toes, minimizing the surface area as much as possible to reduce sound.
With this strategy, Nasiah ran around the base; using his superior acrobatics, he would knock out guards with heavy blows to their backs or stomachs, ensuring they blacked out.
He would cover their mouth in the process, making sure that any noise they would make had been muffled sufficiently.
This continued until he ran deeper into the base, finding multiple guards together in clusters. He would have to make this quick.
Nasiah found a few pebbles; getting an idea, he then flicked them into the mouths of the guards at such speeds that they started to choke them out.
Before they could scream out, he covered their faces with a cloth until they lost consciousness, in which he punched their stomachs, dislodging the people so that they would return to breath once more.
A happy smile formed on his face as he made sure they were still alive before he left to deal with the rest of the men.
Of course, he made sure to hide the bodies. He stuffed them behind cabinets, underneath tables, and more, making sure they were all hidden from any passing onlookers before taking more of them out.
It was not long until the entire camp was taken out by Nasiah, from the lowly infantry guard to the captain assigned to the outpost.
He returned to the group, a proud smile on his face as he revealed himself. "I did it! They're all taken out now!"
Myrym sighed in relief. She did not even hear a sound coming from the base, not even a yell or alarm.
Forcas raised her eyebrow in suspicion. "Heh? Let's check it out then?"
The group made it over to the camp, where Nasiah pulled out every unconscious soldier onto the field in a neat row; over 70 men were taken out of commission in so little time.
Musa applauded Nasiah. He could feel that this boy was growing more and more by the second. It was quite impressive indeed.
"Well done. You truly are a gift from the stars."
Nasiah's eyes sparkled. "I am! Thank you for that, Sir Musa!"
Myrym knelt by the soldiers. There was a pang of regret in her heart. She hoped that she would be able to free them all soon, but the time was not right at all. Her son still needs to fight for them.
Forcas laughed, she would arrange the soldiers in embarrassing positions or just strip them of their armor and most of their clothes.
"Oh, this is too good; none of them ever saw you coming, huh? They look so peaceful, too; what a bunch of fools."
She rubbed Nasiah's head as if he were a dog, a grin on her face growing. "You did a good job; I'll give you your reward soon. Name what you want."
Nasiah's eyes glittered and without hesitation asked. "Can I pet your ears and tail, please?"
Forcas crouched down to his level, tilting her head in his direction. "Heh? Is that it? Sure thing then little man."
With a happy little squeal, the little boy petted and patted the she-wolf's ears and tail without a care in the world. He was absolutely enamored by the softness and fluffiness that was within the wolf parts.
Forenus, meanwhile, was much more focused on the surroundings. He investigated each and every room, letter, and document available, ensuring he knew what his enemies were up to.
Finally, he found what he was looking for a letter at the base of the camp that had not been opened yet.
He raised his hand, using the water contents around the ink to pull out the message into the air. This was to ensure that any trap or secret method that the paper would have held would be ineffective.
His eyes widened, and a grin formed on his face as he saw what was on it.
It was correspondence to the commanding general of House Yuseff. They were going to launch a massive offensive within the next week as they believed that Lady Myrym was being held captive by Forenus.
They also had reports of being pushed back by Forcas, so they needed to mount a counter to ensure their victory. It would seem that their ongoing counterattacks have attracted their attention and ire. They could use this to their advantage.
This shall be the perfect test for Nasiah to see if he had what it took to bring down an army. If he managed to drive away so many at once, then this land truly had a chance to be free.
