Chapter 9: The Peaceful
I heard running as I focused.
"2 contacts minimum." I said out loud, my HUD enforcing my decision.
The HUD had an enhanced hearing aid and it discerned two different running rhythms.
"Watch your left!" I heard Bly shout as three animals jumped onto us.
They targeted Lucky, Cameron and Flesh.
I rolled forward, standing between the Jedi as I turned around.
I saw the animal throw Cameron into the air by his arm.
Aiming my DC15S while in a crouch I opened fire, 3 successive shots rang out, 2 of them hitting the beast it it's eyes.
Switching my target I aimed at the butthole of a second beast, it was in the process of chewing at Flesh's neck.
3 shots found it mark and the beasts quickly ran off, but my heat-vision saw it fall down 200 meters later.
Meanwhile the 3rd got away.
"Flesh is dead." I said, looking at the red box at the top of my HUD.
Showing his CT-Number and 'Flesh'
And it had a sad red colour.
Meanwhile Cameron was yellow and Lucky was green.
"Cameron's right arm is damaged." Lucky said as he helped Cameron up.
"We have to keep moving, we'll switch on carrying him." I told them as I stepped up to Cameron.
I gave my DC15S to Bly as I grabbed Cameron in a fireman's carry before following the Jedi.
…
It took until the following morning for us to reach the colony.
Currently Lucky was carrying Cameron.
We slid down the slope as we reached the village.
Our arrival was immediately discovered and met by a large party of Luman villagers.
The Jedi then began their discussion with the Chieftain.
His belief lied on the source that in a war, no sides is fighting for the correct cause.
Now, I personally would certainly enjoy arguing against him but I knew the Jedi would certainly not allow it, and as such I ended up just listening.
"Please! My friend is dying, and he is injured. We need help." Ahsoka pleaded, she also said that 'Cameron' is injured while pointing at him.
And at that, the chieftain whom were about to leave turned around.
"I cannot ignore a plea for help. We shall aid him in recovering, and we'll send our village healer to your friend." The chieftain said.
"Thank you." Aayla said.
"One Jedi shall remain, the rest shall leave." The chieftain said, wanting a Jedi hostage.
Though I do not know how he'd keep a Jedi as a hostage.
"Very good, I and Bly shall remain. Ahsoka take Lucky and Vaughn and help Anakin." Aayla told Ahsoka.
But the chieftain obviously disagreed.
"That Clone is too heavily army. He shall remain without his blaster." The chieftain first spoke about Bly and his heavy armor and guns.
He then turned to me and pointed to me, so he wanted me to remain without my DC15S, great.
"Just great." I said quietly, though Bly chuckled slightly.
"Very good, I and Vaughn shall remain. The rest shall leave." Aayla said and the chieftain nodded, agreeing with that.
And with that I turned to Lucky.
"I guess you'll get the pleasure of carrying my gun back and forth." I told him and he groaned, but I knew he didn't truly care.
And with that I saluted Ahsoka as she ran off with Bly and Lucky.
I turned towards Cameron on the ground before grabbing him in a Princess carry and led him to the healers tent.
Where some villagers gave him some of the pod's water or whatever it is called.
Aayla walked to the chieftain, but I personally feel like tasting all these different fruits.
And with that I ended up walking around and helping the local population, carrying their large fruit stacks and helping them where their height was a disadvantage.
It ended up getting me situated with a small box of fruits, which I ended up taking to Cameron's hut and giving a few to him.
He was still awake and had mostly been, only suffering a light bite mark on his arm, but most of his damages was breaking his foot and right arm.
However he was strong enough to eat.
…
Early next day I found myself looking at the Clones slowly descending into the village, don't know how they didn't allow me to keep my trusted DC15S but they allow 3 fully armed Clones, 2 of them carrying an additional 2 pistols.
Either way, Skywalker was quickly ushered into a new pod while I went to Captain Rex.
We ended up sitting in one pod alongside Commander Bly, discussing multiple tactics.
We even played a strategy game with rocks as troops and tanks, etc.
In the end I won due to focusing on buying artillery instead of troops.
As one would have a certain max of troops and artillery took more space than normal.
Rex focused on jet-troopers and Jedi.
Bly focused on tanks.
But in the end I won due to fortified positions and repeated artillery support.
"You've got a knack for strategy, I'll give you that. Vaughn." Bly said before we went to sleep, though we had a few patrol rotation.
The next morning I was awoken by Commander Bly.
"Lieutenant Vaughn, get up. Seppies inbound." He told me.
And I immediately sprung up, I slept with most of my armor on, only a few heavy or uncomfortable pieces were put off.
I grabbed my helmet and put the remaining parts on.
I grabbed my DC17 Pistol and holster, equipping them to my leg, grabbed my jump-pack and connected it.
Before taking my helmet on.
I found myself upon the main tent alongside Lucky and Cameron.
Apparently the pod medical substance worked quite well on broken bones and Cameron can now easily walk, a bit of pain when running but else just fine.
We arrived as the chieftain was about to throw us out.
"Your presence here endangers us. You must leave before your enemies find you." He said, and I knew that look.
It was the look of someone about to surrender.
I groaned at that, but my internal mic device was turned off so nobody outside my helmet heard it.
"But you'll need our help. You can't fight them alone." Ahsoka said, she hadn't understood his motive.
"We will not fight them at all. We would rather die than kill others." The chieftain responded. It was a honourable way of life, but a futile one at that.
"You're going to surrender? But how can you-" Ahsoka tried and Anakin stopped her, about time.
"Ahsoka, stop. If the Lurmen want to remain neutrual, we won't force them into war." Anakin told her.
"See to it that they leave." The chieftain said before walking off to greet his new colonisers.
And with that Bly began giving orders, he was a Marshal Commander, the ranks between us were more than enough.
Senior Commander
Regimental Commander
Clone Commander
Major
Captain
Lieutenant
While that might not sound like a lot, Bly was likely even further ahead of me, the highest clone rank was Marshal Commander.
But he's among the ARC Commanders and the 4 Marshal Commanders leading the Elite Corps.
Commander Bly of the 327th Star Corps
Commander Gree of the 41st Elite Corps
Commander Bacara of the 21st Nova Corp
Commander Neyo of the 91st Reconnaissance Corps
Although I think Rex was apart of the program he wasn't on their level.
"Rex, Lucky. You two carry General Skywalker, Cameron, stay behind Anakin. You're your rear support. Vaughn, you're with me." Bly order and we quickly began moving.
Rex and Lucky began helping Anakin out of the village with the help of Wag Too.
Meanwhile I spotted the Chieftain approach the Separatist Commander.
We had to hide behind one of the pods as the droids began ransacking the village.
"Can't we do anything to help them?" Ahsoka asked, frustrated on the lack of combat and letting the seppies get their way.
"No. And if we are discovered all the Lurmen will be slaughtered." Aayla explained.
"We'll be okay, if we ugh, make it to the tall grasses." Anakin said, still in pain.
And with that we began moving.
Cameron ended up leading the way while I, Bly and the two Jedi remained behind, looking for any droids with the potential to spot us.
And as we got into the grass we began relaxing on the CIS presence and focused more on the beasts looming in the grasses.
…
"I can't believe those villagers not wanting to fight. I call it no pride." Rex said, I could understand is fustration. Everything became harder due to their refusal to fight. We could likely have ambushed the CIS Leader in the chaos, he only had 2 guards.
Capture him and destroy his research, would be a major win.
"I call it no courage." Ahsoka said.
"Sometimes it takes courage to stick to one's belief, young Padawan, as any Jedi well knows." Aayla lectured the young padawan.
"We need to find a ship." Anakin said, changing the topic.
"And I think the only one around here belongs to the Separatists." Anakin said with a smug smile adorning his facials. "We know they have a landing craft. They might have a shuttle." He continued.
But meanwhile, my advanced radio-scanners began detecting movement.
I was currently sitting on the ground, my DC15S was laying by my side.
However the droid was behind me on my right side, it would take too long to grab mt DC15S and fire before it moves.
My arms slowly moved towards the Hoster on my right.
My arm slid smoothly into the DC17 handle.
Seeing it's position in my helmet scanners I prepared myself.
Quickly spinning around my eyes focused on the Spy-droid.
My sitting position was essentially a crouch and I stretched out my hand while I used my position to stabilise my aim.
With 3 precise shots the droid fell back down, one to the eye and the other 2 to the body.
The others looked stunned for a few seconds as my entire action had taken less than 2 seconds.
"Huh, good job Vaughn." Anakin said.
"Now we need to find out where they have a base." He continued.
"On it." I told him as I pressed a button on my right hand gauntlet.
My hand communicator was unique, the same one issued to ARC Troopers.
It had 7 buttons, 3 on each side and 1 large. The wide one being as wide as the widt of 2 small ones.
( Fives right hand gauntlet if wondering )
Plus an additional one ontop of that 7 combo.
The large was one was a request for backup through my antennas and helmet HUD.
Meanwhile I pressed the closest button to the large on the right side, from my point of view.
And with that my shoulder antenna became slightly larger and a large part of my HUD was directed at electric activity.
"Luckily, this planet has close to zero electronic devices and as such I won't need to do a deep search. The only area with electronic activity is in Delta 12.31.03." I said out loud.
"Good job, Vaughn. Looks like we got our target." Anakin said and we began moving.
I and Bly kept at front and I constantly searched for electrical activity surrounding us.
When we left our previous position Bly gave me a pat on the shoulder before we continued.
