Chapter 98: Chapter 98: A New Day
Emily sighed as she walked through the bedroom door. It was impossible not to feel at home in that environment. The translucent curtains swayed gently in the night breeze, letting the moonlight in and creating a play of shadows in the spacious suite. She walked barefoot, watching the sea under the silvery light, while Matthew followed her, silent but attentive.
"I'll never get tired of this view," she said, resting her arms on the railing and closing her eyes to feel the wind.
Matthew approached slowly, his hands resting gently on her waist. "It's beautiful, but I think I know something even more fascinating."
She laughed softly, turning to face him. "You never get tired of those phrases, do you? It's like you took them all from a movie."
"Maybe," he admitted, with a crooked smile. "But with you, they're all true."
Emily rolled her eyes, but the smile on her lips gave away that she loved every word. "You have a way of making me believe everything you say."
After a moment of contemplation, Emily pulled away and walked over to the bed, grabbing her bag. "I think I'll take a quick shower. The sand from the beach is still sticking to me."
"Go ahead," Matthew replied, sitting down in one of the armchairs and grabbing the lighting control, adjusting the lights to a softer tone.
The sound of the shower began to echo through the room, and Matthew leaned back, thinking about the day they had. He closed his eyes for a moment, but when he heard the bathroom door open, he turned his attention to Emily.
She came out wrapped in a towel, her still-damp hair falling messily over her shoulders. Her skin glowed in the soft light, and Matthew noticed the black bikini dangling from one of her fingers.
"You're not going to believe what happened," she began, feigning indignation as she pointed to the fabric in her hands. "The clasp on my bikini broke. I had to improvise a knot."
Matthew tried not to laugh, but the situation and the way she was telling it made it impossible. "Seriously? You have a knack for these little disasters."
"Don't laugh! It was a challenge to do it alone."
"You could have called me to help."
She arched an eyebrow, tossing the bikini onto the armchair. "You wouldn't help. You'd just complicate things even more."
"Maybe," he replied with a mischievous smile.
Emily appeared in the bathroom again, now wearing shorts and a light tank top. "Your turn," she said, pointing to the shower.
Matthew stood up, but stopped beside her, watching her closely. "You look different today. More relaxed. More... bright."
"It's the shower," she joked, pushing him toward the bathroom.
When Matthew finally got in the shower, Emily took the opportunity to organize a few things. She arranged the towels, checked her phone to answer quick messages, and finally threw herself on the bed. The mattress was soft, almost as if it were hugging her.
She was so distracted by staring at the ceiling that she didn't notice Matthew coming out of the bathroom. When she turned to say something, he was already beside her, his hair still dripping a little with water.
"You're still wet!" she exclaimed, pushing him away slightly.
"I know," he replied, leaning down to kiss her on the top of her head.
She laughed, pulling the blanket up. "You're impossible."
After a few minutes of light conversation, Matthew lay down next to her, both of them staring at the ceiling. Emily turned to the side, resting her head on her hand.
"What's wrong?" he asked, noticing her curious look.
"I'm just thinking about how perfect today was. Even the simplest moments, like now, feel special."
"That's because you're special," he said without hesitation.
She rolled her eyes, but the smile never left her face. "You're really good at that, you know?"
"At what?"
"Making me feel like I'm the center of the universe."
Matthew smiled, gently running his fingers over her face. "Maybe because you're mine."
The evening progressed at a leisurely pace, both of them sharing stories and memories as the night breeze blew in through the open windows. There was no rush, no need to plan the next day. They were living in the moment, completely immersed in each other's company.
The sound of the waves seemed to lull the room, and little by little, the tiredness of the day began to weigh on them. Matthew adjusted the pillows while Emily turned off the lights, leaving only the soft lighting of the balcony.
"Good night," she said, snuggling into his side.
"Good night, my love," he replied, kissing her forehead.
The soft sound of the waves crashing in the distance mixed with the song of tropical birds, filling the room with a calm and renewed atmosphere. Emily woke slowly, her eyes blinking against the soft light that came through the translucent curtains. She sighed, stretching slowly, feeling the cool sheets against her skin.
Still with a sleepy smile, she got up and walked to the bathroom, her bare feet finding the cold tile floor that made her shiver slightly. "Time to really wake up," she murmured to herself, as she turned on the shower and let the hot water run, creating a light mist in the space.
Emily stepped under the spray, tilting her head back and letting the drops slide down her body. It was comforting, almost therapeutic, the warmth of the water enveloping her like a hug. She closed her eyes, trying to organize her thoughts for the day ahead. Between shampoos, she hummed absently, completely oblivious to the world around her.
Matthew woke up a few minutes later, Emily's absence at his side immediately noticeable. He looked up, seeing the bathroom door ajar, allowing a cloud of steam to escape and fill the room. A smile appeared on his lips as he stood up and stretched.
Without knocking or announcing his entrance, Matthew opened the bathroom door slowly, letting the sight in front of him wash over him. Emily was on her back, her movements slow as she ran her hands through her wet hair. The black bikini from the night before still hung in the corner seemed forgotten, and the intimacy of the moment stole his breath.
"You know you look even more beautiful like this, right?" he said, his voice hoarse from sleep.
Emily jumped a little in fright before quickly turning around. "Matthew! Don't you know how to knock?"
He smiled, entering the bathroom without asking for permission. "Why, if the view is so good?"
She rolled her eyes, but couldn't hide the smile that appeared on her lips. "You're impossible..."
Matthew stopped beside her, not looking away for a second. Slowly, he stepped under the shower, the heat of the water mixing with the heat that seemed to emanate from their close bodies.
"I thought you were going to sleep a little longer," she commented, trying to disguise the blush that was rising on her face.
"How could I, knowing that you were here alone?"
She laughed softly, a little nervously, but felt his hands gently touch her waist. "Matthew..."
"Shhh," he murmured, moving even closer. "Just... let me show you how special you are to me."
The kiss that followed was full of passion and desire, but also full of tenderness. The water from the shower ran down their faces, mixing with the heat that was intensifying between them.
Emily tried to protest, but the intensity of the moment left her speechless. Her hands found Matthew's neck, while he gently pressed her against the bathroom wall.
The energy in the small space seemed to vibrate, each touch and look creating a deeper connection between them. The steam from the bathroom made the air thicker, but neither of them seemed to care. It was as if the entire world had stopped, leaving only the two of them to exist in that moment.
Emily intertwined her fingers in Matthew's wet hair, while he ran his hands lovingly and securely around her waist. Words were unnecessary; all they needed was in that moment of total surrender.
When the shower finally turned off, the silence that took over the room was filled only by heavy breathing and knowing looks. Emily rested her forehead against Matthew's chest, feeling his heart beat at a pace as fast as hers.
"You're no good," she said, a small smile on her lips.
"And you love it," he replied, kissing her again, this time with a lightness that made her sigh.
They left the bathroom together, grabbing towels and drying themselves while exchanging laughs and small teasing. The light and relaxed atmosphere settled between them again.
Emily looked at Matthew as she put on light clothes for the day. "Now, yes, I think I'm ready to face the heat outside. But if you keep distracting me like this, we'll never get out of here."
Matthew just smiled, throwing himself on the bed and watching her with eyes full of admiration. "I could live without leaving here. As long as you're with me."
She laughed, throwing a pillow at him before grabbing her bag. "Let's go, before I change my mind and lock you up here forever."
"Promise or threat?"
"Maybe both."
