Chapter 6: END OR BEGINNING
As the last inhabitants of the island boarded the transport spheres, the corridors of Genesis came alive with a mix of voices and activity. Each individual, as they were led to their cryogenic chambers, carried a blend of fear and hope. The ship, now fully powered by the infinite energy of Changesite-(Y), seemed to pulse like a living entity, ready to fulfil its destiny.
In the central command room, Stood watched the holographic panels displaying the transmissions being prepared. Elisa, by his side, reviewed the contents of the message meant for humanity.
"We need to be clear but cautious," Elisa said, her eyes fixed on the hologram. "If we're perceived as a threat, they might try to stop us."
Stood nodded, clenching his fingers tightly. He knew this moment was critical. After several revisions, the message was finalised and sent simultaneously to every country in the world.
Omnis' serene voice echoed through the room as the transmission was broadcast:
"To the nations of Earth,
This is Stood, representative of the Genesis project. Today, we mark the beginning of a new era for humanity. Through scientific breakthroughs achieved with the mineral Changesite-(Y), we have developed a ship capable of exploring the stars and securing the continuation of our species.
Our destination is the unknown, but our purpose is clear: to discover, survive, and transcend the limits that have defined us for millennia. Genesis will soon depart on its interstellar journey, carrying the hopes of all humanity. This is not a farewell but a new beginning."
The transmission concluded with images of the ship and its technological advancements, designed to inspire and reassure the nations that had grown suspicious of the project's operations.
As the message spread across the globe, activity within Genesis intensified. Omnis guided the cryogenic process, verifying each chamber to ensure the safety of its occupants. The ship's soft lights contrasted with the silent tension of an inevitable departure.
Elisa walked to the main observation window, where she could see Earth and the Moon. "How many, do you think, will understand us? How many will see this as an opportunity rather than a threat?"
Stood approached, crossing his arms. "Perhaps few now, but when we're beyond their reach, they might see us for what we truly are: pioneers."
The Unexpected Alarm
As the final adjustments were being made, a red alert blared throughout the ship. Omnis' voice interrupted the silence:
"Multiple unidentified objects detected approaching Earth's orbit. Analysis in progress."
Stood turned quickly to the holographic panels. The images displayed metallic objects nearing Genesis' position. They weren't meteors but a fleet of military satellites deployed by Earth's powers.
"They're watching us," Elisa said, her face serious. "They might try to stop us before we leave."
Stood took a step forward. "Omnis, status of the orbital defence system."
"Defence drones activated and ready to respond. No immediate threat detected, but I recommend maximum vigilance."
The Departure
Elisa took a deep breath and placed a hand on Stood's shoulder. "It's now or never."
Stood looked at the command room and, with a firm voice, gave the final order: "Omnis, initiate the departure protocol. Activate the main engines and prepare the ship for an interstellar jump."
The lights inside Genesis began to pulse as the dark energy propulsion engines roared to life. The ship slowly moved away from the Moon's orbit, rapidly gaining speed.
On Earth, millions of people watched as Genesis ascended, a brilliant point of light soon to vanish into infinity.
"We're ready for the jump," Omnis reported. "Coordinates for Alpha Centauri confirmed. Countdown initiated."
As the ship prepared for its first interstellar journey, Stood and Elisa exchanged one final glance. They knew they were leaving everything behind, but they were also carrying the destiny of humanity with them.
"Jumping in 3… 2… 1."
A burst of light enveloped Genesis, and the ship disappeared into the vast cosmic ocean, marking the beginning of a new era for all who dared to believe.
