Suicide Before Defeating the Final Boss – 1

EP.1 Yeah, just kill yourself and be done with it~

There were many forms of revenge, but the one I preferred most was to deliver the most horrible despair at the happiest moment. Therefore, I plan to commit suicide just before I meet the Demon King. In the way they least desire.

[D-Day 1 until Suicide]

1.

What would happen if you tried to fill a balloon the size of a child’s palm with endless ocean water? It was obvious of course that the balloon would burst without leaving a trace.

What if, despite the immense pressure, the balloon was miraculously prevented from popping, as if protected by a divine power? That was a perfect metaphor for the current hero’s situation. His ordinary body was overwhelmed by an excessive amount of divine power.

“A living divine power bomb. There’s nothing that describes you more accurately than this.”

Jeong-hyeon burst into laughter at the brief echo of the voice. Being forced into this situation was bad enough, but then they called him a bomb. Normally, he would have cursed them out, but unfortunately, with a sword pointed at his neck, he had no choice but to keep his mouth shut.

“I’ll say it one last time. The moment you see the Demon King, self-destruct and kill the Demon King. That is your mission and duty.”

He was expected to sacrifice himself for a world he barely knew, a world he had only seen in a game trailer, and that too, only remembering the protagonist attending the academy.

Did they even realize how absurd their demand was? Contrary to his thoughts, the people in the palace acted as if this was perfectly normal.

‘Ha …’

It was utterly revolting. If they had any morality, they wouldn’t ask so much of him. Jeong-hyeon couldn’t bear the disgust any longer, so he gave a broad smile and raised his middle finger.

“Screw you, you bastards. Why don’t you tell your own mothers to kill themselves?”

He knew it too. Regardless of how he was treated, provoking those in power was unwise. The sensible course of action was to submit and plan for the future.

‘But.’

– That guy’s an idiot, you know? Just tell him to do anything, and he’ll do it. If there’s any dirty work, just dump it on him.

– If it were me, I’d be too embarrassed to continue. Why does he keep going?

– I wouldn’t want to live like that.

Even if he survived, he would be left with nothing but his lowly status. Therefore, he was willing to risk everything…

“I’ll make you regret those words for the rest of your life! I was going to show some goodwill, but your arrogant claim of heroism has changed my mind.”

“So what? You want to kill me? Even if you want to, you can’t. You said it yourself, you can’t defeat the Demon King without me, right?”

“You bastard!”

He decided he wouldn’t live being swayed anymore. Even if it led to death.

‘Archbishop Lea’ approached him with a white bowl filled with food.

“This will be your last meal. No matter how worthless a person may be, I feel sorry to make you eat garbage just before you die, so I’ve brought some proper food today.”

Her pure white hair shimmered along with the accessories that signified her position as the highest-ranking priestess of the order.

“But giving this to you as it is would be too generous for someone who doesn’t even know their own sins. So…”

She dropped the food into muddy water and then stepped on it with her shoes as she spoke.

“You deserve to enjoy this as your last meal.”

Jeong-hyeon bit his lips until they bled as he looked at the food covered in muddy water and dirt. He was punished by being given disgusting, old food scraps because he couldn’t keep up with the carriage due to the heavy chains.

“Hurry up and eat. Bark like a dog while you do.”

Enraged by her words, Jeong-hyeon spat blood in her direction and said…

“… Screw you, bitch.”

Her previously serene expression crumpled at those words. His crude and rebellious stare constantly reminded her of the ‘Saintess’ who had taken her place. Despite the urge to physically vent her frustration by stepping on his head, she restrained herself.

“There’s no point in paying attention to someone who’s going to die tomorrow.”

Not wanting to ruin things by acting out of anger, she turned away. After all, tomorrow would be their final farewell.

“… May the Goddess’s blessing always be with you.”

As her mocking voice faded away, raindrops began to fall from a sky full of dark clouds.

The wounds all over his body screamed in pain just from being touched by the rain, but he showed no reaction and looked up at the sky. This kind of pain was something he could laugh off, thinking about the revenge that was about to begin.

‘Finally.’

The time to be freed from long-standing suffering was near. He had endured so much for this day. Jeong-hyeon repeatedly scratched at the restraints on his neck, arms, and ankles with his broken nails.

Karina, the second princess and the Sword Saint, looked at the hero covered in blood and dirt with an expressionless face.

Someone who didn’t know his place, driven solely by petty pride. While some might perceive it as courage, she saw it merely as foolish vanity.

‘That’s why I didn’t like the hero at first.’

Seeing him sacrifice himself … no, she scoffed and shook her head. The term “sacrifice” was inappropriate when applied to a mere instrument.

‘It’s more accurate to say he was used, not sacrificed.’

Yes, she had no choice but to acknowledge his existence when she saw him being ‘used’ as he was meant to be. Without him, this unreasonable journey could not have continued.

“… What the hell are you staring at, bitch?”

Of course, that didn’t mean she liked him.

Karina smiled as she looked at the hero, still glaring at her with venomous eyes even after all these years. His attitude had provided her and their two companions with a way to relieve stress.

Clank.

The shackles that bound him, preventing him from doing anything, served as a means to transfer the weight of their burden onto him. Therefore, whether she liked him or not, he was a necessary member of the party.

“This will be our last encounter. Even at the end, your expression remains the same.”

In response, he raised his middle finger.

His challenging attitude, though unappealing, would soon be irrelevant as his existence would be erased tomorrow. She decided to overlook his behavior for now.

‘Just this once. All the glory that would have gone to him will come to me.’

With that, she could surpass the First Prince and the treacherous First Princess, securing her claim to the throne.

‘So soon.’

She had no doubt that everything would fall into her hands. Everything was going according to her plan.

On a rainy day with no sunlight, Jeong-hyeon opened his eyes and saw a moth struggling in the muddy water with its wings torn. A bitter laugh escaped his lips. It was amusing that this was what he saw on the morning of his last day.

‘… The last day.’

He touched the ‘collar made of sealing stone’ around his neck and closed his eyes. He had tried to escape or kill them several times, but every time, the collar had failed his plans.

‘I did everything to remove it.’

But all it did was increase the pain around his neck. He couldn’t get rid of it, even at the last moment.

‘… Well, whatever.’

That didn’t matter anymore. The only thing that really mattered was…

“Ha… It’s finally the last day. It’s been quite an interesting journey.”

“Yes, indeed. There were many dangers and incidents, but considering our status as the ‘chosen ones,’ it was only expected that we would successfully complete the adventure.”

“… Well, it wasn’t bad.”

The task of transforming their cheerful, happy voices into despair.

So, Jeong-hyeon slowly dragged his feet to the edge of the cliff where the Demon King’s castle was most visible. One more step and everything would end—the fate of this world, their fates, and his own fate.

He could have ended everything by just throwing himself off, but then a good idea struck him, and he stopped.

‘Leaving without a word wouldn’t be polite.’

Since he was going anyway, it would be better to end things more dramatically, wouldn’t it? So, to witness their expressions, he decided to call the spectators. He picked up a stone from the ground and casually tossed it towards the tent. It was a trivial act, but the collar around his neck interpreted it as an ‘attack’ on them. As a result, it inflicted pain on his neck and sent a signal to those in the tent.

‘… Damn it.’

Even after experiencing it hundreds of times, he still wasn’t used to the pain. Jeong-hyeon gritted his teeth as he endured it. Three figures emerged from the tent with their faces contorted in displeasure. The woman with the sword was the first to glare at him, grinding her teeth.

“… I intended to let you spend your last day in peace, but you just had to cause trouble until the very end.”

Jeong-hyeon chuckled briefly. Their self-centered thinking was revolting to him, and he was glad he could take revenge without hesitation.

“… Did you know? This shackle and collar have a pretty serious flaw.”

“Ha. You’re just struggling because you don’t want to die. It doesn’t matter; your death is already predetermined.”

Just hearing her voice made his disgust rise, but he forced it down and continued.

“That’s right. But the death you’re talking about means self-destruction, doesn’t it?”

“I don’t understand what you’re trying to say. Of course, that’s…”

At this point, they seemed to sense something was off. The relaxed atmosphere disappeared, and they looked at him with disbelief. Jeong-hyeon finally said the words he had been holding back.

“But do you think I’m going to do that for you?”

Realizing something was wrong, the woman in the white robe hastily shouted.

“There should be a restriction spell on the collar! Whatever you do, it’s meaningless. Stop struggling and accept your role.”

Jeong-hyeon sneered.

“Restriction spell? The one that punishes me if I try to harm you?”

For years, this spell had kept him from doing anything, dragging him along and ruining all his plans. Thinking of the spell that had destroyed his life, he gripped the collar made of sealing stone tightly and spoke.

“That means, as long as I don’t harm you, it doesn’t care what I do, right?”

So, whether he self-destructed or committed suicide, it didn’t matter at all.

“Hero… aren’t you a hero? You were born to save this place …”

“Are you out of your mind? Why would I save this place? You kidnapped me and now you want me to save you? Have you gone mad because people keep praising you?”

“… What?”

“The salvation you speak of? Why should I care? This is a place I’ve never seen before, and on top of that, you treat me like garbage. Who would sacrifice themselves for that?”

It was an obvious statement. With those final words, he laughed and continued.

“So, goodbye, idiots. I’m throwing off all the chains and shackles of this world.”

Recalling an old popular image, he raised his middle finger. Of course, in that image, the person was going up, while he was falling down.

‘Well, both end up in the afterlife, so it’s the same.’

With that thought, he threw himself off the cliff.

‘… Damn it.’

Even as he fell, his mind was filled with nothing but bitterness. If he had been given even a sliver of a chance, he would have preferred to take proper revenge rather than a cowardly suicide.

‘No matter what I did, I was stuck at level 1, unable to acquire any skills or traits.’

Though he was a hero, he couldn’t progress, and so he had no other choice.

‘Damn it.’

Through his gradually closing vision, he saw the world tainted in purple by the encroaching demonic energy and twisted his lips into a smile.

The fact that his death would bring ruin to this wretched world wasn’t so bad. Still, he wished he could have taken his revenge directly, not in this way, as he muttered his regrets and fell to the ground.
