Summoned to Save, Chosen to Rebel: The Rise of the Dark Sovereign

Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Message Delivered

In the peaceful village of Eldergrove, just a stone's throw from the bustling city of Alderoth, life flowed like a calm river. Men and women tended to their fields, planting crops and sharing laughter, while children played joyfully in the sun-kissed meadows.

The village was small, with charming wooden houses and fertile farms dotting the landscape. There was an air of contentment, a sense that nothing could disturb their simple, happy lives.

But high above, Zephyra watched. From her hidden perch, she surveyed the cheerful humans below. They were blissfully unaware of the darkness that lurked at the edges of their world.

It was almost infuriating. Without a word, she raised her finger and pointed downward. Her demon soldiers, waiting impatiently behind her, sprang into action.

With a thunderous roar, they descended upon the village like a storm. Chaos erupted as Zephyra's forces unleashed their fury. Villagers, caught off guard, were struck down without mercy.

The joyful laughter of children turned to blood-curdling screams as they were hunted like prey. Men and women, old and young, fell in the dirt, their lives extinguished in an instant.

The once vibrant village of Eldergrove was soon shrouded in darkness. The air was thick with the metallic scent of blood, and the ground turned crimson. Screams echoed through the air, mingling with the laughter that had once filled the fields. Zephyra's eyes glinted with satisfaction.

This was the awakening of a new era—a time when demons would reclaim the world, and the humans would learn that happiness could be fleeting.

The farms of Eldergrove burned brightly, flames licking at the sky, while dark smoke billowed upward. The wooden houses, once filled with laughter and warmth, now crumbled into fiery ruins.

The ground was littered with the lifeless bodies of the villagers, their skin glistening with blood, a stark contrast to the vibrant earth where they had toiled just hours before.

Panic filled the air as some villagers desperately tried to escape. Mothers clutched their babies tight against their backs, their cries for help echoing in the chaos.

Yet, their pleas were swallowed by the darkness that swiftly descended. Zephyra, standing tall and powerful, raised her hand and uttered a chilling incantation.

With a flick of her wrist, she unleashed her advanced spell, Obfuscation. Suddenly, an unnatural darkness enveloped the village, snuffing out the last remnants of light.

The air thickened, making it hard to breathe, as though the very atmosphere had turned against them. Dread seeped into the hearts of the villagers, and terror clawed at their minds. Time warped; moments stretched into eternity, dragging out their agony.

Inside the darkness, the helpless villagers felt as though they were trapped in a nightmare. The ground shifted beneath their feet, and the weight of despair pressed down on them.

Babies, so innocent and fragile, gasped as they succumbed to the overwhelming fear. They were the first to go, their tiny forms still and silent. The older children followed, their cries fading into the suffocating void.

The adults, too, fell victim to the spell's grip. Panic washed over their faces as they fought for breath, but it was futile. One by one, they collapsed, choking on the darkness that surrounded them. The last sounds were muffled whimpers and desperate gasps, drowning in the stillness that followed.

When the spell finally lifted, silence fell like a heavy blanket. Every living being in the village was gone—men, women, children, and even the animals that had once roamed the fields. Only the flames remained, crackling softly, lighting the aftermath of devastation.

Zephyra stood at the heart of the ruin, the chaos behind her a testament to her power. Her demons cheered, their voices rising in a cacophony of approval, celebrating the destruction wrought by their elite commander.

With a satisfied smile, she called her forces back, knowing her message had been sent loud and clear. The village of Eldergrove was no more, swallowed whole by the darkness that Zephyra had unleashed.

The news of Eldergrove's destruction spread like wildfire, shocking everyone. Within a single day, the peaceful village was no more. The villagers had been mercilessly slaughtered by demons.

Those who passed by the village couldn't believe their eyes. What they saw was pure nightmare—bodies lying in the streets, houses burned to the ground, and farms turned to ash. It was as if the village had never existed.

The nearby towns and even the great city of Alderoth were thrown into chaos. Fear rippled through the streets as rumors spread. No one wanted to believe the demons had truly returned. Yet the signs were undeniable.

In the royal palace, the atmosphere was tense. For the first time since their arrival, the five heroes stood before King Roderick of Aeldrath.

They had been summoned to this world for a purpose, but now the gravity of their mission was becoming clear. The demons had emerged from the shadows, more terrifying than anyone had dared imagine.

The king sat tall upon his golden throne, his face as stern as his reputation. His crown gleamed in the torchlight, and his silver-armored elite guards flanked him on either side.

Princess Violet stood nearby, her face pale but resolute, while Prince Aiden's hand rested on his sword. The heroes could feel the weight of their presence in the room.

King Roderick's voice echoed through the chamber, steady and commanding.

"The demons are no mere legends. They are a force of pure destruction, hell-bent on wiping out all that we hold dear. Their thirst for power is endless, and they will not stop until they've consumed this world. You, brave heroes, were summoned for this very reason. It is now your task to rid this world of their curse."

The king's words hung heavy in the air. His gaze swept over the heroes before him, his eyes sharp and determined.

"You will lead our army deep into the heart of the Dark Forest. Exterminate every demon you encounter. This is our world's last chance."

The heroes stood in awe. The royal court was like nothing they had seen before—golden thrones, silver armor, and the weight of an entire kingdom resting on their shoulders. It was a far cry from the humble world they had known.

With a mixture of fear and determination, the heroes knelt before the king. They pledged their loyalty, vowing to rid the land of the demons once and for all.

But none of them knew the truth. One among them, standing proudly in the light, had dark intentions. A villain lurked within their ranks, hiding behind the mask of a hero.

The quest to stop the demons had begun—but what they didn't know was that the greatest danger wasn't just lurking in the Dark Forest. It was closer than they ever realized.
